Both parents were born in England, My Mother's Mother was born in England aswell so have a grand-parent born there aswell. Both parents currently Irish citizens and have been for well over 30 years at this stage
My mother has never held a UK Passport but my father has at some stage. Firstly am i actually able to hold one (id say i would be just guessing )and secondly how's the process applying for one?. and actually, can i hold both UK and Irish passport at the same time?
Would there be much scraping for information along with it?
Would be handy for the likes of Australia and Canada if the time comes.
Appreciate it thank you.

What would be the advantages?

Yes, you’re eligible for a British passport.
Yes, you can hold both a British passport and an Irish passport. Many Plastic Paddies in England have both, it’s really common. Even Tommy Robinson has both.

Both the UK and Ireland support dual citizenship. There is one major exception for Ireland, but that doesn't matter for you.
Irrelevant. Citizenship is what matters, not having a little maroon book. If your parents were UK citizens, you are almost certainly entitled to UK citizenship.

thanks mate. both WERE at some stage UK citizens, but are now irish citizens yes.

You are confusing citizenship and residency.
Panceltic@reddit
They still are. Except if they actively went out of their way and formally renounced British citizenship (which I am sure they didn’t).

Yes, don't see any reason why you can't have both.
How do you figure?
EdmundTheInsulter@reddit
Commonwealth countries? But does it gain anything for immigration etc? Not sure.
No_Alps_1363@reddit
there's some recent agreement between uk and australia, so it is marginally easier/better to have a british passport than an EU passport if you want to live there
ThunderThighsChun-li@reddit
Do you mean the agreement where Australia doesn't have to prove that they can't find a local for a job when hiring someone from the UK?
ThunderThighsChun-li@reddit
Do you mean the working holiday visa that stops at people aged 35?
MDK1980@reddit
Not at all. Still need visas like everyone else to enter.
ThunderThighsChun-li@reddit
It does not
danielg1111@reddit (OP)
either easier travel with getting a longer visa or just easier in regards for immigration if it comes to that eventually, but hopefully not. rent here is insane!!
i really cant see me not being eligible for one with how many boxes it looks like i tick but i had a couple questions as maybe brexit might have made it harder. thanks for the response all the same.

You can have dual nationality. Zero issues with having an Irish and a British passport. Loads of people do.
It wouldn't. You don't get freedom of travel/work in these countries just because you have a UK passport. You are able to get a working holiday visa but if you want to live and work there on a permanent basis then you go through the same process as everyone else.
AirBiscuitBarrel@reddit
Yep, I've got both (as have thousands of other people).
ThunderThighsChun-li@reddit
Wish I did as well but I can't afford to move to Ireland with the rent prices and I don't want to add to an already massive problem there.
ThunderThighsChun-li@reddit
OP do you think Brits can just go live in Australia or Canada? If what time comes?
danielg1111@reddit (OP)
no i dont but having that passport might mean i get a longer better visa all the same. if the times comes for me to have to emigrate but hopefully it wont come to that. rents here are insane:)
ThunderThighsChun-li@reddit
You might want to look at Reddit posts from their respective countries. They're not in the best shape either in that area.

I would speak to those who live north of Dundalk if you can (yes)
