Anybody else hate flying in 152s or is it just me?

I know lots of people enjoy it, but man, it feels like I’m literally flying in a joke. It can’t climb and I could cruise faster on bicycle.

I like flying them solo. When I was instructing I had the absolute worst back problems from the way I'd be twisted to be out of the students way. But, flying low and slow in a 152 is easily beaten by flying low and slow in a J3 cub.

"I'm not putting my arm around you, just behind you" I'm 6'3 and apparently I only hang out with and instruct other tall folks, this is the only hack I've figured out. Keeps my shoulder from getting smashed and keeps me from fiddling with stuff the student should be doing

I always describe them as a straight piped 2004 Honda Civic coupe to my friends. It’s slow as all hell, makes a lot of noise and doesn’t drain your wallet for gas (well sorta). You feel like the coolest dude on earth until the guy with a proper sports car pulls up (literally any other plane).

I’ve flown both the 150 and 152. They’re both heavy boring aeroplanes with ponderous handling but at least the 152 has enough power to climb with two people in it. Pretty much anything more modern with a better power to weight. I’ve flown a lot of types and nothing is as dull as the 150. I have a share in a PA28 180 which is also dull, but has a decent useful load, and I have a share in an RV-8, which fucking rocks.

I'm sure that'd be fine in a place like Arizona or Florida where the majority of IMC is just going to kill you if you mess with it. most places though, I don't think owning a non-IR plane is really worth it if you're actually looking to go places I guess you're not looking to "really" go places in a 152 though lol

There's some schools in central Florida you can get a good deal. I'm building in a 150 that rents for 60/hr dry. Split that with another pilot and you are getting some cheap hours.

You certainly don't get all the bells and whistles you would in a $200 plane, but they still have to follow all the inspections. You are probably right in some instances, but I don't want to fall into the trap of thinking more expensive is better. Its a great trainer and hours builder. Its a gutless wonder......yes but its a great little aircraft for fun flying. Taking mum and dad for a flight etc. Such a gentle and forgiving aircraft but for those spring steel u/c legs. Want something faster, get a small jet. Careful though. Dont fall behind whilst flying something that.
View on Reddit #49106157

soyAnarchisto331@reddit

Time is time. Why do you want to cruise faster when the goal for most people flying the 152 is to accrue that time as cheaply as possible? If you hate flying in the 152 all you have to do is pay more money for a larger ring of where you can go in your given time frame. But you won't be flying any more.

The 152 is one of the best if not the very best first airplane to own. Should have opted for the slightly pricier (hourly rate) and heavier C172. The C152 is so light it's always being tossed by the wind in all directions, and landing the thing takes FOREVER, it just floats and floats and floats over the runway, ugh...

A 150 \ 152 teaches you to fly the wing, which is a good starting point in training. They're easy to fly , but just ' difficult enough to fly well ', so to speak. It has a cogent and learnable exact rpm change to exact trim change , it is a good place for a beginner to sit to learn being precise, which hopefully builds a foundation and carrys through the next airplane(s)...and it spins really nice (:

Some people like to get in an airplane, some people like to put on an airplane -- I'm one of the latter.

Hate 152s- yep. 2 grown men in there is like a sweat locker. Give me a 172 all day over that

You have 10 more hp than I did. Be thankful

I am 6'7" and I have to choose between using the yoke and the throttle. My knees are always in the way. I just stopped flying those when I was 17 lol

I’m never going back. They were always incredibly uncomfortable. You felt every knot of wind. The doors would randomly open in flight. I had the seat go backwards during TO near hills. Ill always remember it somewhat nostalgically but I won’t ever miss it

152 handles like a go kart man. I miss flying one. Ask for some short approaches and slip it around for a few laps. Have fun with it.

Girl: So you're a pilot eh? What kind of plane do you fly? Pilot: Well you see that big gray plane over there with 4 engines on it? Girl: Sure. Pilot: Well that's a C130. But I fly a C150.

I built time in one for a bit, really felt like a chore. I was normally in a Grumman Tiger. I never really loved flying around in GA for the hell of it, but the 150 made it almost painful. I wish I loved flying a small airplane around.

The 152 is a trainer, not a traveling machine. It excels as a trainer: good handling yet forgiving. Simple and economical. Pretty much every 2-seat, 100-120 hp plane has similar performance. I trained in a 152, and it made earning the PPL economically feasible. I also flew 172s, Cherokee 140s, and a Citabria during training, but the 152 was the most economical fun. The 172 handles like a pickup truck compared to the 152.

I love a 150. I ... am small. It's the perfect size aircraft for me!

Back in the day I was a member of a flying club where you didn’t need a separate checkout in a 152. As long as you could fly the 172, they just told you “all your airspeeds are just 5 knots slower” and let you take the 152 out. It was fantastic. Loved that little thing. Nice and slow, you could see the scenery, cheap to rent… I don’t think I’d like I much if I’d had to fly in it with another person, but it’s sure nice by yourself. These days I think I’d need an actual checkout in one, and I’m too fat for that, so 172 it is.

I did all my initial training in a 150/152. You forgot to mention "cramped". Yes, it's slow. But it is no joke. Cessna made an incredible aircraft that you can throw around the sky at will and will forgive any bad landing and ask for more.

I did most of my time building in the smaller cousin, the 150. Had to circle above airport to climb in the summer before clearing the hills

The C152 is an affordable way to get into the air and a very good and reliable trainer for those who want to make flying a career. If you can afford more expensive airplanes, go for them. I have always liked C152 and 172 for their simplicity.

I adored our schools 152 back when we had one. Even had a 430! I went on so many cross countries in that thing, renting for so damn cheap, insane takeoff and landing distances.
