I want some advice. This is the TST R002, a moped-style e-bike. I'm thinking of purchasing this, and yet, i live in California. Would this be considered a "moped" and what should i do? I seriously don't want to have to get no license for this bike.

You're fine, that bike won't really go faster than 28-30 on GPS. It's an Ebike.
SketchTTV@reddit
it can go up to 38 mph fully unlocked
cloud_x@reddit
Can you show us that on GPS with a video? While I believe you that it can be unlocked from the 25mph or so to 30ish, I’m willing to bet my life that it will not get to 38mph verified on GPS on a flat road. Sorry brother. I build e-bikes for a living and that rear motor with a very basic 15Ah 48v is not hitting 38mph anywhere.
That bike can maybe do 29-30 on GPS not the built-in display. You responding with the unlock had me do some math and some research. Weak, 18a controller, kids ebike 750w hub sold as a 1500w(peak motor) thing motor cables…..
Sorry to burst your bubble but that bike doesn’t even hit a true 32 mph on flat.
SketchTTV@reddit
also, quick update, do not buy this bike, i ate absolute shit on it on a turn at 12-15 mph, handlebar snapped and the front wheel is dislodged, i'm not rich so i am turning to purchase a Ridstar q20, but i am cut all over from a simple turn at 15mph, and yes, i am experienced with ebikes, and have ridden my friends' mx4 which is exponentially faster than my bike, so I believe there was no riding error on my end.
Forsaken_Branch_3787@reddit
It’s kind of wild to write off the whole bike based on one incident. I had the same model TST R002, and yes, I actually noticed my stock handlebar stem had cracked when I was tightening it, so I replaced it with an aftermarket one just to be safe. TST was very responsive and sent me a new one, which says a lot about the company.
In my experience, it’s a solid quality bike overall. The main weak point I’d point out is the rear spring, and I’m already swapping that out. But acting like the entire bike is trash because of one failure on one ride is a stretch. Mechanical issues can happen on any bike, especially depending on how it’s ridden, maintained, or just plain bad luck.
Also, I’m not really buying the 38 mph claim. Mine is restricted around 32 mph and you can literally feel the limiter kick in. So unless your setup was different, modified, or your speed reading was off, that part sounds questionable too.
Sorry you crashed, but that still doesn’t justify condemning the whole bike off one isolated incident.
CaliCloudz@reddit
The ridstar isnt going to be any better quality
SketchTTV@reddit
i have, peaked at 38 but consistent at 30-32 mph on a daily basis, my friend did a hit that ion really know abt but it did peak 38 at one point riding downhill
Suitable_Frame7071@reddit
I got one I don't recommend buying one
HobosHappen@reddit
May I ask why? My buddy is looking in to this particular model.
DearAttorney1022@reddit
Don't listen to that guy it's a really good bike for the price and I'm not saying that to say it it's speed is pretty good and travel is good too the only thing bad is the app for it is bugging now and idk when but the manual top speed is easy to do jus look it up on YouTube
Sad_Sprinkles5495@reddit
I bought one and it's awesome and fun to ride. 💪🏼💯
Serious-Cover-2221@reddit
I have one as well its a ok bike but cant buy parts for it yet
Shot_Ad_1785@reddit
What part do you need to buy?
PaleontologistSad708@reddit
I need a controller. If it isn't very expensive, I would buy two. I got my R002 as an early Xmas gift from my mother. It's changed my life. I love it. On the very day the warranty expired... it broke. E4 error for overheated controller. I took it to a shop in town, where it has sat for five long days. The man who owns the shop is very kind. I think he's 80, and he has cancer 😞 He told me he sometimes has difficulty getting parts, he also said he's 90% sure it is the controller. From what I understand, it must be the exact controller for the specific bike, is this true? I was hoping to one day upgrade (no... I'll save for a better bike I think). Anyway I've been searching all over. The website is weird... It gives you vague advice on how to find parts with no actual link. I finally got someone on the phone, and he said they would email me a link..... That was many hours ago. Am I screwed? What can I do? Please help me, I NEED this.

Why?
Familiar_Teaching545@reddit
I recently bought a JFG twist throttle for my sons bike, but the color coding of the wires are different. The wires from the bike are green red and black, and the new throttles wires are brown blue and black. I am getting mixed answers on how to connect them, but I know if done wrong can possibly fry the controller… any body done this conversion before and can help me out?
AcanthisittaHot8020@reddit
Don't do it. Mine is a piece of junk
Rich_Wealth_8313@reddit
In what way?
Ill-Ad-4157@reddit
It’s been a year is the bike still working
DearAttorney1022@reddit
I mean it's a good bike there are modes to make it go 20 so if a cop sees you riding they can't stop you also if anyone in here knows any good front fork replacements for the bike because I had a bad crash and I bent the front fork bad and on the site it says sold out and I don't know how long that will take till it's back in stock I really need this fixed quick if anyone knows any good replacements similar let me know

I live in California. I ride everywhere on my e-bike. Southern California has miles and miles of dedicated class bike trails. E-bikes, as long as they don't have noisy moped motors, are all legal with without needing a license. The only problem is when you come into some cities where they tightly regulate e-bikes and their speeds and where they can go. This isn't the norm for most Southern California cities. Santa Monica recently clamped down on e-bikes being used on walkways for pedestrians. But class 1 bike trails are dedicated for bikes and I observe many e-bikes that go faster than 28 mi an hour. Mopeds (they don't have pedals for pedal assist like EBikes) and have a noisy motors are generally not allowed on these class 1 bike trails. However, e-bikes are allowed on the street and are usually capped at 28 mph In most cities I have seen. And you don't need a license to ride an e-bike in Southern California. Overall, the whole state seems to be e-bike friendly, although there are pockets of complaining people because they either encounter young kids, hot rodding and popping wheelies on the walk trail, or the streets are not properly marked and cyclists have to use alternate routes that pedestrians feel impeded upon. But overall it is a bike friendly state. At least where we are. And we ride all the time all over the place especially on the dedicated class 1 bike trails.
Knight_Time_3@reddit
I recently purchased this exact ebike a month ago. I also live in California. So far, since I've had it, there have been no issues with law enforcement, but I am pushing my luck. I've even had a police car driving behind me, and he just drove past me (mind you that I was at full speed of 28mph, no legal helmet, and the cop still left me alone)
I wouldn't recommend riding as reckless as I was... so buy a legal full-face helmet. The downside of owning this ebike is that it's at 750v if I'm correct, which is technically illegal, but that would be something most cops wouldn't look for unless they confiscate it.
fac777cc@reddit
I have this bike too I can only get 22 mph on it what is the problem
Hentai-Hottie@reddit
Not sure if your still having the problem you were, but install the orbital sports app and you can take it up to 28 but you can go higher with some tutorials
fac777cc@reddit
Yes I did that now and it works great
SketchTTV@reddit
if you want faster, press the minus and plus and power button while holding the brake to open a menu and then use the headlight button to select p3 and use the minus and plus to select one on the lower number and it should boost speed i go around 37 mph
TheDarkClaw@reddit
Get a license for it?
TheDouchebagOfCA@reddit (OP)
Yeah. Supposedly, in the State of California, you need an M1 motorcycle license to drive mopeds. I wanna know if this applies to the bike. I dont think it does, but, does it?
TheDarkClaw@reddit
Since it can go up to 32mph and that is above class 3 ebikes. yeah you would probably need some sort of liceense. Why not get something like a lectric ? You can find more shops willing to work on it than whatever ebike you are looking it.
SketchTTV@reddit
you don’t need a license
photog_in_nc@reddit
Looks like this bike has a 1500 Watt motor, so it isn’t going to be a legal eBike in California.
cloud_x@reddit
It's lies tbh. It barely does 26-28mph on GPS and is not unlockable in any way. It's marketing on this particular model. I've had one come through the shop. Its a 750w nominal motor, 1500w peak. Just like almost all Ebikes.
SketchTTV@reddit
it is unlockable, you must hold the brake, and whilst holding it, you have to hold the plus and minus buttons and also hold the power button, it will open up a menu and use the headlight button to choose the modes to select p3 and use the plus to get to mode 1, then download the orbital sports app and connect via bluetooth to unlock class 3
cloud_x@reddit
I’ll save that! Nice find!
SketchTTV@reddit
yeah no worries
Away_Jump_9882@reddit
As long as you don’t drive like an ass or get caught speeding you’ll be fine . I got a speeding ticket on my onyx rcr which has a 5000watt hub and they didn’t take my bike
USAdartplayer@reddit
TST is American made. Not from China whatsoever.
sandandsnow@reddit
Is this true? I see tons very similar to TST on the various Chinese bulk supplier websites like ali and its cousin babba. Which apparently I can’t type the names here per the auto moderator lol.
USAdartplayer@reddit
I’m not sure now since the box said Made in China, but it was shipped from Savannah Georgia
sandandsnow@reddit
Cool. How do you like it? My friend has one and I’ve ridden it. It’s pretty cool. Just hearing mixed reviews on brakes and other issues.
USAdartplayer@reddit
I believe my brakes may need an adjustment as they needs to be pressed quite far to get it to slow down. Could be a simple adjustment.

I just bought same bike and its great and parts are easy to get. Also has great customer service for it

I’m late to this combo, but here is some info for anyone finding this and thinking about this bike. I have had one now for three months I love it. It was a pain in the butt to assemble, especially the seat, so find a YouTube tutorial for assembly and forego the lame directions they give, but once assembled it is great. unlocked through the app at 28 mph, which is plenty for the errands that I run. With pedal assist 2-4, I can get about 30-35 miles down to one bar, but I never run the battery to complete failure. No pedal assist, you will get about 25 miles max. The handling is excellent, brakes and shifting are effortless. For the price (we got it on Amazon Deals for 699) it’s the best low budget e bike out there. The night time riding is very good, the light is huge and puts out a lot of brightness. The bike is best for those 5’10ish and shorter. They do say it is off road, but the bike is really best built for town and city streets. Gravel is average handling.
Master-Title1096@reddit
Sorry 40km with 45kmh or 40km with 25kmh(full throttle)
Mediocre-Hope9650@reddit
I ordered an electric bike from this company. It arrived on time and assembly was straightforward, but the quality was extremely disappointing. The front brakes did not fit correctly, so I had to fix them myself. There were no instructions, and the only way to reach customer service or technical support was through email with a team based in China.
After just one day, my son took the bike out for its first ride. Within 10 minutes, the motor began grinding, and the bike would not go faster than 10 mph. I contacted support and was asked to send serial numbers, photos, and videos. After a week of back-and-forth, and repeated promises of replacement parts, they simply stopped responding.
I requested a refund, but no one replied. At this point, my only option is to dispute the charge with my credit card company. I paid $1,000 for what turned out to be a dead bike, and my son has had no bike to ride all summer.
This has been the worst purchase I have ever made. Do not buy directly from this company. If you really want one of their bikes, buy it through Amazon or eBay so at least you’ll have some protection and customer support.
Main_Constant_9167@reddit
Sorry you went through that. I wish we could get manufacturing up and running in North America. The irony is China has virtually banned e-bikes-or massively restricted them depending on what province. That’s how many people have died or been severely injured. It’s a matter of time before we do the same because no one knows how to categorize them here. My son’s 15. He has 1 friend in hospital with 5 leg fractures after being hit by a car, and another friend who went flying over the handlebars of his Tularia with a brake failure. He wanted one & even he’s like “yeah, no”. It’s time we stop buying crap from China. There’s no accountability, no customer service, no safety and quality control. I think it’s pretty clear with the fentanyl precursor flooding from them they only fake bow to our faces but laugh and turn away when we buy their dangerous products.

Delusional much? The whole of the LA fires were preventable….with a mayor who didn’t leave a reservoir empty, ignore such a massive homeless population, divert millions to DEI while leaving countless fire trucks still waiting for repairs. Original fire started by a homeless person in peak Santa Ana winds, a mayor who promised to be there but was instead in Guyana sipping cocktails with their new president-and had cut so much staff no brush clearing or fire break protocols were met. The fire chief had been at Mayor Bass for over a year this was a disaster waiting to happen…but she was ignored. Now Newscum is going to invoke a law to build low to very low income section 8 housing on what was once many families’ entire life savings! Postage stamp homes & lots in the Palisades with empty fire hydrants 10 feet from their homes, and their insurance companies saw it coming and canceled them mere weeks prior. The left love to make up lies, BS, and perpetrate violence…I can’t wait to see what the residents of Westwood & Hollywood Hills think when Newscum & Bass build Compton part 2 adjacent to their neighborhoods. You people are such idiots!

iiegal. dont buy it crimimal

That's how you unlock it and it is awesome for me I'm doing 30mph now from 22 so have fun
OkParamedic1306@reddit
What's the range now going 30mph?
Forsaken_Branch_3787@reddit
I'm 160 lb it gets up to 28 29 I've got it up to like 3200 downhill but it seems to even have a limiter that kicks in when you go over like 28 very strange maybe it can be bypassed somehow!
Hentai-Hottie@reddit
That's really strange, Mine doesn't do that. I top out at 32~35 and I'm 175. I've crashed several times severely damaging it, I've repaired any broken parts every time but the limit on speed? Never happened. I've hit ~40 on a hill next to my house.
Far-Amoeba-8386@reddit
Does the battery lock in? What does the battery connector look like? Can the bike safely use a 48v 19amp battery? A 52v, 20amp battery?
Forsaken_Branch_3787@reddit
Good question I like to know the same thing I'm sure it can I have the same bike and it does lock in place with a key The only key and it has a kill switch but anybody can flip that and turn your bike on and take off with it they should have had the key as a ignition I didn't get that part I might just upgrade the thumb to twist throttle with a key ignition or kill off switch!
rosekspain@reddit
The key is so you can take the battery off and charge it inside. I just lock mine up with a bike lock like any other bike.

I have the same bike I can't go any faster than 22
