For the local drivers. Apart from being home daily as a local driver can you take extended time off every couple weeks without PTO like OTR drivers ? I’m OTR running flatbed. I stay out 7 weeks then take a a month off. I’m currently takeoff the winter off in Thailand. I wonder if I can get the same perks while local.

Use your PTO you get, then slog like the rest of us. Your BEST bet honestly if you want to do that, local work that is seasonal-ish. I worked for a roofing supply place that asked for volunteers yearly for layoffs because aint nobody roofing in the snow and sub freezing temps. There was a old fat crane operator that took EVERY winter off.

Your company allows you to take a month off after seven weeks out? I *finally* got home after seven weeks out and they were being little bitches about me taking four days of home time even after completely ignoring my last home time request (that was supposed to be at four weeks out).

You can it's called Family Medical Leave Act. You have to have a sick family member or some kind of personal illness to qualify for it and from what I seen it's really easy to abuse. Just need a doctors note and fill out some forms with your employer and bam you can work when you feel like it. I think their is a limitation like 2 or 3 times a week but some states like New York offer even more time off.

I’m local. Yes. Just gotta tell my manager in advance. They let you take 1-3 weeks. After that you basically have to give up your start time.

Extended time off will definitely burn up your vacation/pto unless you had a seasonal gig like gravel hauling or something like that up north.

Not with Ltl companies. I can take a day off here and there but that’s it. Maybe with the shit paying local companies you can do that. For the most part good local trucking jobs are like regular jobs.
