Add central PoE for the new digital phones, in areas that are discontinuing traditional analog land line service.

One indisputable advantage of corded land line phones was that, a power outage alone didn't necessarily disable them, and having service during a power outage didn't rely on the owner having a UPS for their router or whatever. Since power over Ethernet is already a standard anyway, and part of the standard is that a device that cannot draw power from POE won't be fried, there should be some kind of POE for basic corded digital phones. It wouldn't have to be enough to run a lit screen, necessarily, even though that is possible, it would require more expensive equipment for the exchange for the increased current capacity. But the phone could have an adapter for running more advanced functions like the screen and caller ID, and simply fall back to basic "mode" so to speak when only POE is available. Of course, I'm only talking about areas where analog land lines are being discontinued. For places where they still are being maintained, a land line is still a good option in applications where the "line powered" functionality is important.
