I have now watched all the youtube vids instructing me on the proper pronunciation of Pwllheli, and have been offered a box of tissues twice.

It takes a certain sound coming from under tongue towards the cheeks that I only previously used when doing a Donald Duck impression.

I was taught the pronunciation by an old Welsh sailor, it's something like Pu (as in the first half of "put") then "shelly". Something like "Pushelly". The ll is apparently a "sh" sound, and w seems to be more u, but with a slight w aftertaste, see it's use in "Ambwlance".
