Saturday Morning Cartoons is a 100% shared Xennial experience.
When the deregulation started was 1983 with He-Man... just a full throttled "okay fuck it, cartoons are now commercials"
Shit got so intense that you had Rambo and Robocop, two full on R-rated franchises, with their own children's shows.
Captain Planet was the first "self regulating" series, but that debuted in 1990... I was 12 at that point but the youngest Xennials would've been six.
1997 is when the Children's Television Act when in to effect, where equal amounts of Educational and Informational content had to be broadcast to balance out the unregulated shows... and that started the downward trend. I would've been 19 and the youngest Xennials would've been 13.
Basically we had a firehose of marketing aimed squarely at us.
