What’s the purpose of these GSE points on the engine cowling? Lifting attachments?

Could be where to insert a tool to unlock and open the cowlings?
GSE is Ground Support Equipment
Jellyfish339@reddit
And also “unlock” is usually on the latches underneath the engine, which you unlatch to open the cowling/reversers
Jellyfish339@reddit
Not open, you open them by hand, but to support weight when removing each part
Jzgood@reddit
Yep, I think this is a correct answer

Ground Support Equipment

Yes, but what is the GSE supposed to do with those points
FloppyKaleBurger@reddit
Wrong answers only: shoot at it from afar with a laser based remote diagnostics tool.

So that’s what those guys in New Jersey were doing!
bigfatfun@reddit
Requesting diagnostic flyby
RetardedChimpanzee@reddit
Come on, we know the real answer is to provide support

It's the aux jack to plug in your headphones so you can listen to the engine's complaints during maintenance.

Or start it up with your mix tape
TrippinNL@reddit
Those would be hoist/sling attachment points to be able to crane those large and heavy parts off when needed during maintenance.
Icommentwhenhigh@reddit
Not my aircraft, but on others I’ve used there would be a sling adapter for hoist or crane, each of those holes would be threaded for the sling to get bolted in before hoisting. Some applications might be just a pin, but same idea.

Just a guess…but possibly latches or lifting points? No luck on Google
im-tv@reddit
Ground or electricity supply? Connect earbuds to listen aircraft belly?
bouncypete@reddit
It's the Ground Support Equipment attachment points.
Basically where you attach the lifting slings when you remove the cowls and thrust reversers.
The point of identifying the GSE points is so anyone looking at the aircraft will know that nothing is missing, or has fallen off when they see these vacant holes. However, it's common that these holes have grub screws fitted.

Thanks for the explanation! That makes sense

Gun Shot Entry. Duh
Simmerdownsimm@reddit
That’s where you put the GSE.
Spin737@reddit
It’s for engine covers.
Oddflame@reddit
Used to attach a hoist or sling when removing inlet cowl or fan cowls.

I guessed correctly then, thank you!
