It might help that Brolin and Ke Huy Quan are stars now and Sean Astin is a genre legend.

If they fuck this up, we riot

If? It will undoubtedly be a train wreck.

Terrible idea.

Not sure how I feel about it. I watched Beetlejuice 2 last night and almost cried in desperation. What a train wreck that was.

At least with Beetlejuice, I get the decision by Hollywood. It's been a merchandising machine at Hot Topic and other places for decades, their are millions of people who weren't alive when that was made who the film is Nostalgia bait from their childhood. Goonie's doesn't really hit that way for anywhere close to the same amount of young people, they are gonna be really relying on a 45+(generously) and up crowd to show up for this.
mstermind@reddit
That's a pretty risky undertaking. I'm not sure I feel nostalgic enough. Hopefully they won't fuck it up as badly.

Nostalgia. It hits hard.
mstermind@reddit
I just think I'm getting really tired of Hollywood's version of nostalgia.

If the first one was good, I don't need a remake. If they screwed up the first version remake it to what it should have been.
But I would prefer if they created new things instead of redoing old things.
mstermind@reddit
They're remaking Buffy so maybe we'll eventually circle round to Firefly. I would have loved that!

Can we stop this from happening? What could the premise possibly be?

Goonies 2: The Search for More Money

Boooooo

Who is the target audience here? I don't want it and I'm not alone in that. seems a lot of us have no faith that it will be good and think it's a cash grab and it's not something new for the kids. So who is this even for?
deekamus@reddit
Who asked for this?

Goonies 2: The Return of One-Eyed Willie.

I hope it’s all the original goonies getting back together to go on a cross country adventure for whatever reason. Mikey’s your typical middle aged dad who’s settled in life and is the reluctant one to go on the adventure, Brand is retired from the military, Chunk is a lawyer and keeps telling them “the name just doesn’t work anymore guys, time for a new nickname already”, Mouth is a rockstar, and Data is still into inventing things but is a big time engineer now.
What I don’t want to see is the movie is about their kids going on an adventure to save the town from their parents financial mistakes or something. Do NOT make it so that the original Goonies grow up to be failures and lost the spark of adventure and given up in adulthood and their children need to save the day.

fuck you, hollywood
oakomyr@reddit
Woof. What a shameless cash grab
Makelovenotrobots@reddit
I wish they wouldn’t. Even if it’s “good”. They should create new adventure movies for kids to fall in love with. Something that is theirs.
VVrayth@reddit
It's going to be bad, guys. Don't kid yourselves. Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Beetlejuice 2 should have taught you by now, this never goes well.
sleepyguy007@reddit
can we file this in the, that was a money grab and doesnt count folder with stuff like coming to america 2, and gladiator 2
uncle_monty@reddit
I don't know how to feel about this. I want to see it so much, but I also don't want to be disappointed like I was with the new Indiana Jones'.

Goddamnit, don’t tease me
