Was it just me, or did anyone else get handed a few cold uncooked hotdogs for lunch every now and then growing up?

Was it just me?
electricballroom@reddit
“It’s the same as baloney” - my mom
statsman0812@reddit
Wait! You had to cook them?
Ancient_Seat_7456@reddit
And white bread was the bun for everything!
pinballrocker@reddit
I think you mean tube bologna.
Naive_Product_5916@reddit
I used to get them when we were recovering from the flu. I don’t know why maybe it was the salt.
Kooky-Reading@reddit
We'd stick a fork in them and hear it on the gas stove fire 😄😄😄
Boomerang_comeback@reddit
Still do lol. Also, they come fully cooked.
EH8tred@reddit
If I was lucky. We were poor as hell.
GarthRanzz@reddit
No but remember my little brother boiling some for lunch and left mine in the pot, still on. I came home and charcoal and a pot I had to hide from our mom because it was ruined.
sparky853@reddit
I still eat cold hotdogs.
FeistyMuttMom@reddit
Yup, when chopping them up and adding them to mac and cheese was too much work they were just served whole and cold.
Or wrapped in wonder bread.
OneStarTherapist@reddit
Add them to Top Ramen, bro.
I added tuna fish to the mac and cheese.
jenorama_CA@reddit
Yes! I’d add hot dog and peas to Top Ramen. How come I don’t do that anymore?
JCo1968@reddit
I used to wrap a couple of dogs in Wonder Bread, put them in a plastic bag, and shove them in my pocket for a snack while mowing the yard.
JimC29@reddit
I used to grab cold hotdogs for a snack when I was a kid. I loved them. Cold hotdog with a piece of Kraft cheese wrapped around it.
jenorama_CA@reddit
When I was a kid, I’d go swimming at my cousin’s most of the summer. Afterwards, we’d be completely ravenous and would raid the fridge. Cold hot dogs were a favorite.
Another-Random-Idiot@reddit
Used to? I still do.
oldg17@reddit
Same!!
NatasLXXV@reddit
I would sneak cold uncooked hot dogs as a kid. 🤮
OldDudeOpinion@reddit
A few? You got more than one? You must have been rich.
ConsistentWeird2564@reddit
You were rich if you had the ones with chili in the middle. Does anyone else remember these?
PhilDGrowler@reddit
Frankenstuffs. I was telling a 25 yr old coworker about them the other day. I loved them.
lidlekitty_tweezler@reddit
I had cheese in the middle dogs but never chili. Totally missed out on those
Baronhousen@reddit
Affirmative
bspanther71@reddit
I still occasionally eat a cold plain hot dog. Dad did it on the regular.
Virgil_Kawasaki@reddit
Yes. Loved it. Rolled up baloney and cheese slices too.
TravelerMSY@reddit
The original charcuterie.
DedInside50s@reddit
Bologna in a tube.
Fordinghamster@reddit
From ages 3-5 the Saturday morning routine was to grab myself some cold hot dogs and go watch cartoons.
RScottyL@reddit
I would eat them uncooked out of the package mostly!
Zolome1977@reddit
My dad would use hotdogs as a beef substitute in many recipes when times were tough. Which was my entire childhood.
excaligirltoo@reddit
No but the butcher would always give us one at the market.
pingus3233@reddit
Did it happen to be on Fridays? Were the buns prohibited? Did you Hail Eris?
GBeastETH@reddit
Nope. But I could microwave my own.
Affectionate-Map2583@reddit
Not hot dogs, but I would snack on Underwood deviled ham right out of the can, with a bit of mustard.
MyriVerse2@reddit
No. They're cooked before packaging.
And I made my own lunches.
nygrl811@reddit
Cold does not necessarily mean raw . . .
LemonPartyW0rldTour@reddit
They’re not saying they’re raw. The opposite actually.
nygrl811@reddit
Right, but the post was about cold hot dogs
CreativeProfession57@reddit
Ever sip the "soup?"
ConsistentWeird2564@reddit
LOL!
CreativeProfession57@reddit
A fellow “drinker of the broth”
Are you ok? Has the trauma receded yet for you? :)
NorseGlas@reddit
I learned to boil hot dogs and cook scrambled eggs when I was 6yrs old. Those foods were usually in the house. That and cereal.
Both parents owned businesses and worked more than full time, mom only ever made dinner and I was an only child. You figure shit out.
Barbarossa7070@reddit
Boiled hot dog in a slice of white bread with ketchup was the preparation at my house growing up. I guess I’m lucky to have not been to prison yet given that horrific upbringing.
fizzymangolollypop@reddit
Aren't cold hotdogs just bologna in a different shape?
Barbarossa7070@reddit
Smaller, unsliced bologna
sickofmakingnames@reddit
I used to eat them frozen.
No_Manufacturer_1911@reddit
I got bologna often. Hated that shit. I think it was the same stuff they press into hot dogs.
Mailman1974@reddit
I can take them right out of the package and eat them
Audrey_Angel@reddit
"Get handed"
Entitled and bitter
Significant_Ruin4870@reddit
No, I had to get my own lunch. Usually quesadillas. Or Oreos.
Audrey_Angel@reddit
"Had to"
Entitled and bitter
Audrey_Angel@reddit
I gathered my own lunch from the frankly several choices:
Cold hotdogs, sometimes cooked :D Sliced cheese Sliced bologna Sliced bread Mustard Mayo Cereal Potato chips Saltines Peanut butter Ramen Milk
Chai-Tea-Rex-2525@reddit
You were handed food? Talk about being spoiled.
seamuwasadog@reddit
I don't know if it was just you, but I never knew anyone who did. But then, I and everyone I knew could cook for ourselves - at least enough to handle our own lunches. I'm talking from roughly 8 on.
westviadixie@reddit
lol...we'd just pull them out of the fridge to eat. same with bologna. latch key kids for the win!
NWXSXSW@reddit
All the time
Self-Comprehensive@reddit
I had to grab them myself but yeah.
Parking-Power-1311@reddit
I still eat them all the time.
It was the go to camping or outing food anyway.
Cubs. Scouts. Cadets. Sports.
They even raised money for football at some of the schools I was in by selling Hot Dogs.
Staple GenX food.
Commercial_Wind8212@reddit
Gross. No.
witchstrm@reddit
I'd get a plain cold tortilla sometimes or a few saltines with oleo
Onorine1@reddit
If my mom made me a hotdog it would be on a bun (unless we ran out) and heated up with whatever condiments I wanted. I would however sometimes just grab a cold hotdog as a snack out of the refrigerator and walk off eating it.
Bobbisox65@reddit
Yes!:why was that? My mom's not around anymore to ask
Physical_Ad5135@reddit
Wait, your mom made your lunch? It was mostly cafeteria food for me, but if I brought my lunch it was all on me. My favorite was those cheap Buddig chipped beef with ritz crackers and American cheese slices. Yummmm.
jcseks@reddit
Heck yeah, I remember those days. My Mom would hand me one or two just to make sure I was eating something (I was very picky at when I wanted to eat).
Stardustquarks@reddit
One of my fav snacks to this day. We were never given cold dogs, butbid eat the leftovers and loved them cold. Especially with a piece of American cheese shoved in the bun under it
jazzbot247@reddit
No we had a microwave. I'd put that hotdog on a piece of white bread and slap some cheese on it. In one minute you'd have a cheese dog.
xczechr@reddit
Breakfast of champions.
Icy-Veterinarian942@reddit
Yep. I can't believe I used to actually like those things.
SeparateMongoose192@reddit
I wasn't
bavindicator@reddit
I sliced them thin and arranged them on a 2×4 with stale Ritz, called it charcuterie
rpbm@reddit
Ate that often. On store brand bread. We couldn’t afford fancy stuff like Wonder bread.
areporotastenet@reddit
This is as rebellious when I was a kid. “you’re not even going to heat it up?”
Nope, I’m a loner Dottie, a rebel.
Meerkat212@reddit
We don't have hot dogs often anymore, but when we do, I sometimes find myself sneaking a cold one while getting the rest of em cooked...
Papa79tx@reddit
Weenie sandwiches are what I grew up on. Halve two frankfurters and lay them on bread and add some mayo. Goes great with Cheetos. 😋
Over-Direction9448@reddit
I would be so hungry in 1976 I’d actively go and stand in front of the refrigerator eating them cold out of the Oscar Meyer package because I was starving lol
lowfreq33@reddit
We used to eat the mini hot dogs like you use for pigs in a blanket straight out of the package. They’re fully cooked, so it’s safe, but they’re definitely better heated up.
Comedywriter1@reddit
😂 Yes! I remember my brother loved them.
