Just joined at over 17,000. So happy to be here. I watched Xena when it first aired on TV, (18:30 Saturday nights) it started when I was about 12. I've wanted to rewatch it for years. I've bought the DVDs (I'm an 80s baby and don't trust streaming) and I'm up to S2 E3. When I first watched it, I was watching through child's eyes and didn't see any of the subtext, hidden meanings or dark themes. It was a fun show with a kick-butt female action hero in the lead role that seemed to tell young girls watching that you could do anything if you were determined enough. I thought the relationship between Xena and Gabrielle was completely platonic because it was set in history and people weren't as weird around the word 'love' as they are now. Rewatching through adult eyes now and I have new appreciation for the writers and everyone else involved in the show. The subtleties and vagueness that allows almost every scene to be interpreted differently depending on the viewer is awesome. I'm discovering new things about an old favourite with every episode. I shall not be watching the final two episodes. Nay, nay. I don't need that kind of sadness in my life right now. I felt cheated the first time, I don't want to revisit those emotions.

I can't remember when I joined (and my join date if it can be found won't be accurate because for some reason I must have accidentally left the group one time and had to rejoin), but I think I remember seeing us around 11,000 and I joined in late summer? We don't have Buffy's numbers but we're a nice sized community!

Buffy's number is huge, I'm still envious of their crowd there, but we are growing fast.

16,355 not a bad increase for 30 days lol I love love love Xena. She was on when I was younger but wasn’t allowed to watch it. I’ve watched it on repeat over and over. I can’t bring myself to watch the last episode because I don’t want it to end. They’ve became like family.

I'm very impressed how fast the subreddit is growing as of late. When I joined here a few months back, it was one post per day from recurring users (like myself XD) and now I'm seeing more and more new Xena watchers showing up. I'm quite proud!

Can we campaign for a reboot with the original cast please!
Agent8699@reddit
Sure, but NBC appear disinterested.
Disney / Hulu approached Sarah Michelle Gellar as soon as she publicly said she was open to playing Buffy again. And now the Buffy revival has a pilot order and an Oscar winning director attached.
Lawless has said many times she’s open to reprising her iconic role as Xena and … NBC has done nothing. Heck, they hired her husband (and original series showrunner) to helm a Xena reboot (which all fell apart). And prior to that, although they were willing to license the Xena brand to Tapert / Renaissance Pictures for a big screen movie, they wouldn’t fund it (which meant the movie fell apart when Tapert couldn’t secure funding).
If NBC isn’t taking the initiative, then it would require a powerful and popular A-lister, whether actor, writer or director to go to NBC and pitch a Xena revival. Other than Quentin Tarantino, I can’t think of any “Hollywood” fans of Xena?
Lorenzo-Sandoval-Art@reddit
Man if they did a Xena reboot even just like 1-5 episodes I’d die happy.
Agent8699@reddit
I’d prefer a revival over a reboot.
I think it would be possible to combine the two - a limited revival with the open ended possibility of an ongoing series with a new Warrior Princess and Battling Bard.

Minus poor Kevin Smith :( He was my favorite

Xena and Ares is going to be a HARD replacement to find. Like, we're talking about picking up a beloved legacy made here. Whoever that does get the role in the future will have a BIG shoes to fill 😅
kittensbabette@reddit
My idea for a reboot had Lucy and Renee as Xena and Gabby but they weren't really the main characters, they would be in it but the series would focus on a rag-tag crew of gen-z aged proteges that live and work at Xena and Gabby's compound (I never figured out the what and why of the compound but it attracts misfits who travel there bc of the legend of Xena and Gabriel).
Latte-Catte@reddit (OP)
Right. Kinda like the Ash vs Evil Dead series, where Ash came back as an old man to help his gen z lost daughter from evil. Bruce Campbell still come back and play Ash ofc.
kittensbabette@reddit
Yeah so it continues the series with its authenticity instead of redoing it completely! My fear of a reboot would be making it either too serious or too cheesy, I love the mix that Xena has both!
Latte-Catte@reddit (OP)
It needs the balance of humor, camp, and heartfelt moment, which is difficult to do if the wrong people got their hands on a sequel/remake.
Tricky_Direction_897@reddit
Exactly! My challenge other all of this is, as much as I would love a reboot, how do you replace this cast! Especially Lucy. She IS Xena.
Latte-Catte@reddit (OP)
Without Lucy, Xena wouldn't be as beloved as today. Where are we going to find another Lucy Lawless omg. Let's hope someone as beautiful and charismatic is in hiding and appear soon.
Prestigious-Run-3007@reddit
I struggle w this thought too!
I kinda want a reboot to redo some of the story plotlines. But who on earth could replace the fLawless Lucy and the ever so charismatic KTS 💔 absolutely no one, that’s who!
Latte-Catte@reddit (OP)
Hollywood has also change the method on casting actors, nowadays they hire actors base on social media presence and influence. Meaning the more followers they have atm, the more chance they're getting hired. There are less charismatic actors today compare to the 90s. Which is not bad, but would definitely hurt the Xena reboot if it does happen today :/
Tricky_Direction_897@reddit
This is how I feel, too!
Latte-Catte@reddit (OP)
I don't think it's a money problem, NBC is still waiting for writers to pick up a Xena reboot. NBC is open, they just aren't promoting a potential reboot. Idk, we'd have to get Tapert on our side.

This has been such a big deal for me, I struggle to comment much but love being part of this group!
