I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a dollar general there.

Fuck, I thought this was a video of me… The other night I was 0.7 miles from my destination with 10 mins left on my 14, and got the surprise ‘no trucks’ sign. Was trying to overnight at the destination. I tried making the corner and I was for sure going to hit the light pole so I backed out before I made contact. Parked in the road to find another way around (small town, late at night), next best option was a dirt/gravel road through some farmland, which is pretty normal for what we do. Got to the 2nd to last corner again. Bridge ahead of me, sign says 20 tons (I’m 35 tons loaded), bridge to the right is a single lane, but no weight limit signs. Called my mentor/trainer, he said send it. Got to my destination 13 mins after my 14 ended. Long story short, I didn’t end up in the creek upside down, and didn’t make it into a Reddit post

Yeah... One of the first things my trainer told me is don't ever just trust the GPS directions. You'll end up stuck or somewhere you won't be able to get out of. I ALWAYS check before I make my drops (I haul heavy equipment to construction sites) especially the sites entrance and possible exits. Now, it is an amazing tool for finding alternate routes and ways around closures but it'll also get you into a lot of trouble seeing as most GPS apps assume you're driving a passenger vehicle and try to send you down "no truck" roads frequently. I do like how it suggests what lane to be and for exits and that helps a lot going to new places knowing if there is going to be one turn lane or multiple so I can better prepare for my upcoming turns.

I work in the oilfield. I have for 12 years now and it's been.... An experience. I help out with my friends tucking companies and will train new guys from time to time. One of the first lessons I teach it's who have never been oilfield, is to never trust any GPS. If you haven't been there before, 100% you must open your maps app, go to satellite view, and zoom the roads you don't know. GPS consistently tries to send drivers through farmers fields, goat trails, farmers driveways, truck restricted roads, and even around the killdeer mountains, through stream beds. The amount of guys who ignore this, and then I get called to grab my front loader and pull them out of where ever because other semis and toe trucks won't/can't drive down where they went..... Every year too. It's like I tell everyone for a reason, yet guys choose to ignore and follow GPS. It's only in the winter time when snow covers the roads. A dirt road with fresh snow could also be a farmers field road along a fence line, a frozen stream beds, a cow path, etc. OTR guys coming OF are the worst, especially those who try to compare driving winter driving i80 in Wyoming with winter driving in North Dakota oilfields.

I work oilfield in Alberta. We always get a call sheet with a predetermined route…no exceptions. For just this reason.

I was driving down a county road in North Carolina one time and it kept getting smaller and smaller. I was looking for a place to turn around but there never was one. Eventually the dividing line went away and it just kind of looked like a big asphalt path, then I passed a sign that said "PAVED ROAD ENDS 500 FT". Ended up on a dirt road running through the woods. At this point there was nothing else to do but just keep going. Either that or back up several miles. Came out between a couple fields and could see that the dirt road ran across a berm between the fields and intersected with a paved road about a half a mile on up. I just punched it and prayed. Really didn't want to have to call dispatch and tell them I got stuck out in a field somewhere. Luckily made it to the paved road and found my way out.

Shouldn’t be, Werner’s tablets all have GPS (not that it’s always 100% accurate) but it only lead me down a bad road once which was my own fault anyway.

There should come a point where you realize you messed up and you should look at satellite view to see where you are, where you are going, and the safest way back to where you need to be. Maybe he didn’t have cell service or panicked but dang he full on sent it
