A simply perfect song, second only to Breaking Us in Two. And just astounding that it got so much radio play considering he is so much more avant garde than pop.
Yes! Someone was posting a while back about "instant nostalgia songs" that you only have to hear a few notes of... and are instantly whisked away. This is high up on my list.
Can anyone name a song that’s in the style of Steppin’ Out, not necessarily by Joe Jackson? It’s something that I’ve wondered about for years so would be much appreciated.
Stop everything
I think I hear the President
The pied piper of the TV screen
Is gonna make it simple
And he's got it all mapped out
And illustrated with cartoons
Too hard for clever folks to understand
I saw Joe Jackson live in … 1989, or 90? at the Berkeley Amphitheater: easily one of the best large venue concerts I’ve ever seen. He did a version of Hometown with an orchestra. I wish I had a recording of that performance.
Wife and I hit a rough patch a few years back. Played "Breaking Us In Two" a million times to help me cope - so relatable. Joe Jackson is the gift that keeps on giving.
So I saw Joe Jackson a couple of years ago - great show and had a great time until I realized the last time I had seen him in concert was 39 years before …..
By the way that dude is still tight as fuck. He was so much cleaner than Elvis Costello …
I will never forget hearing a news alert that Joe Jackson had died, and thinking OMG, that’s horrible. Then they mentioned he was the patriarch of the Jackson family, and I was immediately relieved. Oh, that Joe Jackson. Good riddance.
So funny that I saw this. Was listening to look sharp album on my ride home from work today. I was in my early teens when I first heard it. To tell you how long ago that was it was on one of those new cassette tapes!!🤣
