9800x3d build shuts PC at high usage(CPU,POWER)

Hey, i "upgraded" my PC but the only thing that is left from the old one is the 2 SSD's and the PSU. The new PC run fine until i try to run Cinebench 2024. During the test the CPU runs at 79-81 degrees and consumption is 140-145W, during the tests at the end or at the middle it just shut downs no blue screen no nothing just shuts down.I also tried the stress test of AIDA64 it ran 25 minutes but temps were around 70 degrees. Also when i run stalker 2 and it compiles the shaders it also goes to 100% cpu usage and at the end of the compliling my PC just shut downs.
My build:
PSU: Seasonic FOCUS GX-1000W 80+Gold
CPU: Ryzen 7 9800x3d
AIO: NZXT KRAKEN x63
MBO: MSI MAG x870 tomahawk wifi
RAM: Kingston 6000 30 CL 2x16GB - Kingston Fury Beast, KF560C30BBEK2-32
GPU: RTX 5080 Palit Gamerock OC
SSD: 1TB 970 EVO and 2TB 970 EVO
So the things i tried:
- Running Cinebench 2024 and Stalker 2(compiling shaders) -For the CPU i tried With 20 negative undervolt and normal settings. For the ram i tried expo 1, expo 2 , JEDEC 4800,manual(5000,5600,6000) and every time around the end the pc shuts down. CPU avrage temp was around 79-81 and the usage was around 140-148W. I also tried doing 1 stick of Ram at a time.
- Tried running AIDA64 stress test with normal CPU setting and EXPO 1 the CPU was at around 65-70 degrees and i ran the test for 25 min no problem.
- For the RAM i tried memtest86 the first time i ran it it crashed at 5200MT(i read online that ram cant crash it) the second time i ran it at 4800MT default settings it ran for 4 passes without errors.
- I also tried all of these things using the A24 and A2 bios.
And my question is what should i do im planing on returning the MBO,Ram and CPU to the vendor so they can test them out. Im suspecting that it could be a PSU or MBO issue. Or the NZXT KRAKEN might not be enough to cool it down. My PSU is old but the last PC i had worked fine and i used a 3080 msi suprim x which had a usage of 370W the same as the 5080 also my old processor was a Ryzen 9 5900x.

Give more details on the 'crash'.
Did it go pop and screen goes completely black and the whole tower shuts down?
Did you get visual artifacts on the screen?
Did the screen freeze and you had to power the machine off and on?

Hey i have some more observations from today. The first thing is that it was cold in my room and when i ran stalker 2 the shaders compiled and the CPU was running at around 82 degrees. After playing for 30-40 minutes my PC stopped. Also when the PC is under load i hear a sound coming from it. Like a low pitch beep. "piiiiiiiiiiiii"
Blueshadows98@reddit (OP)
It just fully shuts off and i need to press the power button again to start it. The screen just goes black nothing else.

I had an old power supply that worked fine until I upgraded my system and then I had that exact failure mode. When it happened, I knew what it was. I plugged in another good 'old' power supply and had the same failure. I purchased a new ATX 3 power supply and the problem was solved. These pre version ATX 3.0 power supplies may meet the total wattage requirements, but in reality cannot handle newer components. There is more required than just total wattage. An atx 3 power supply can supply 2x or 3x the rated wattage for at least \~20ms. There are documents out there that explain the difference between ATX v2 and v3
No one can say for sure what it is, but I think the next step is to try a new power supply. Memory/CPU/GPU failures cause partial and total crashes but generally don't make the whole tower shut down.

Here is a quick read
ATX 3.0 explained: Why Intel just gave power supplies a major overhaul | PCWorld
Read the part on power excursion. Basically divide the total wattage of an atx v2 power supply by 3 - your current power supply is effectively a 333w atx 3.0 power supply.

Also can you give some other PSU suggestions because im from Europe and now that i look into it the NZXT PSU is not in stock here.

FOCUS GX ATX 3 (2024) - Seasonic
Looks great
Blueshadows98@reddit (OP)
Hmm this is and interesting read i didn't knew that so much things changed.
Blueshadows98@reddit (OP)
Im a bit scared of the new PSU with all of the melted pin posts.
dmXr1p@reddit
Could try undervolting and changing power limit parameters
Blueshadows98@reddit (OP)
how can i change the power limit parameters ?

You said the PSU is old. Is it ATX 3.0 or 2.xx? ATX 3.0 added a burst protection, I forget what is called. These new GPUS will pull a ton of power for an instant and cause the psu to shutdown. ATX 3.0 and later can handle these surges. I had a top tier fractal power ion 850w Atx 2.xx power supply that started shutting down when I upgraded from a 4070 to a 4070 Ti Super. I put in a known good 550w Seasonic ATX 2.xx and that shutdown as well. A new Thermalright 850w ATX 3.0 has been stable ever since.
If you are in the US I suggest the NZXT ATX 3.1 at BestBuy 850w or 1000w. Best prices available for a ATX 3.1 power supply with a 10 yr warranty. Cybernetcs has reviews.

The seasonic focus gx is ATX 2.xx. But while running cinebench im only stressing the CPU not the whole system. And im kinda scared about all of these cable meltdowns with the new PSU's.

Ok, I just read this. I thought you were using a more recentish PSU. This could very well be an issue after all. And even though you're just talking about CPU stressing, please keep in mind this:
Palit OC GPUs are known to have higher power spikes (similar to ASUS GPUs). In fact, it can spike up to almost 450W if I read correctly here: https://www.techpowerup.com/review/palit-geforce-rtx-5080-gamerock-oc/41.html
Scroll all the way to the bottom where it shows you a chart on Power Consumption Spikes.
I really don't think I'd want to use that kind of PSU with this kind of GPU anyhow given the issues you already stated.
Blueshadows98@reddit (OP)
Yeah but its a bit confusing because during the test the gpu is like at 20% usage during the test.

145W is normal for that CPU, but if temps are shooting up too fast, then that could be a problem. Have you turned off EXPO completely before running CInebench and using only stock settings?
A computer will crash for a number of reasons, but commonly:
Unstable UV/OC settings - Not all chips are created equally.
Improper Fan Curves set
Failing PSU or insufficient power or improperly seated connectors
Failing RAM or improperly seated RAM - and as with the CPU, unstable OC settings.
Blueshadows98@reddit (OP)
I reset the CMOS and tried with all default CPU and RAM settings and i had the same problem. The PSU is 1000W. I also checked the ram and made sure it clicked from both sides im pretty sure its inserted correctly the memtest86 also passed.
-Rexa-@reddit
So to be clear, you ran Cinebench with EXPO disabled, too?
Blueshadows98@reddit (OP)
Yep i ran it with Expo profile 1 and 2 i ran it with JEDEC 4800 default settings i tried manually setting the ram to 5000, 5200,5600 and 6000 still the same result.
Blueshadows98@reddit (OP)
Replying to your edit. Its a fresh windows 11 IoT LTSC. And during normal gaming i dont have problems only while compiling shaders for Stalker 2 in exaple the cpu goes to 90-100% usage.
changen@reddit
Check window logs. PSU is probably dying.
Blueshadows98@reddit (OP)
I have a bunch of these but it think its unreleated:
The server Windows.Gaming.GameBar.PresenceServer.Internal.PresenceWriter did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.
Device Association Service detected an endpoint discovery failure.
Every time it crashed i have this log;
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.
The previous system shutdown at 17:31:15 on 14.2.2025 г. was unexpected.
changen@reddit
so yeah, your PSU is shitting itself. Probably overheating. Check PSU fans and see if it's actually spinning.
PSU with a broken fan will work but the moment it gets a load, it will start overheating. At which point it will cut power due to overheat protection.
I would NOT suggest replacing a PSU fan unless you know what you are doing. People have died from getting electrocuted by the charge stored in the capacitors.
Blueshadows98@reddit (OP)
Ok i looked at the PSU and the fan wasn't working when i pushed a button on it for hybrid mode it started to spin i started the Cinebench and after 2 min the PC shut itself again the CPU was around at 82 degrees.
The error in the windows log is the same.
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.
P.S I know about the capacitors ive had them discharge in my hand 1 or 2 times haha.
Blueshadows98@reddit (OP)
Forgot to mention that this MBO has 2 CPU connectors i tried with 1 and with 2 but it still crashed.
Isthmus11@reddit
It doesn't sound like a cooling issue to me. To be clear, are you stress testing just the CPU when you run these tests or are you stress testing the entire build? To me it sounds very likely that your 9800x3D + 5080 is spiking to ask for more than 1000W of power from your PSU and that is causing your PC to shut down.
What confuses me though is this should not be the case unless the PSU is actually deteriorating in some way, and generally Seasonic PSUs (and the specific model you have) are supposed to be pretty rock solid. 1000W should be more than enough to supply everything that build needs... But given all of the other testing you have explained with RAM/CPU settings to me the only real possibilities here are your PSU or CPU being the issue, and the fact that it's specifically totally powering off and not just crashing under heavy load to me points more at a PSU issue
Blueshadows98@reddit (OP)
Im only stressing the cpu thats why im so confused during the test the gpu stays around 20% i think.
thuy_chan@reddit
I kinda stay away from seasonic the last few years because I've had quite a few duds.
