Purchasing house - What to do about utilities?

Hey guys, We are buying a property and our completion date is next week Thursday (exchange done). Fingers crossed it all goes through smoothly. We will be doing some work to the house, mostly just updating it with how we want it to look but nothing crazy. The only big change potentially will be that we MAY convert the space underneath the stairs into a toilet/sink room but not sure yet. We will not be moving in for at least another 4 months at the earliest but likely 5/6 months. This is because the house needs new carpet/paint, work on the floorboards, new furniture, appliances etc a lot of the usual bits when moving into a new house and my partner is expecting is a few months so wants to stay with my family for a couple of months until after the baby is born. Now, this is my first time moving. How would you deal with the utilities situation in this instance? We have a water meter but no smart meter for the other utilities. I'm utterly clueless if i'm honest. My only understanding is i'll still have to pay standing charges for utilities even if I don't use them unless I get them completely disconnected (heard it costs to disconnect/reconnect and it isn't worth it in most instances) and of course i'll have to still pay council tax. I've still got a bit of time to look into this but in all honesty, we thought the home purchase would fall through due to a variety of reasons so it's kind of caught us unprepared with how quick it's all come together at the end. If you have any other advice for me, it'd be most appreciated.
