One and a half hour drive M-T And a 30min drive on fridays š
MaizeBeast01@reddit
Yeah actually, off wed -friday
Upbeat-Ad-2185@reddit
Why are Thursdays terrible
No-Canary-6774@reddit (OP)
Seems like every Thursday its bumper carts day on the highway cause theres always a crash lmao
FlippantPinapple@reddit
Yeah. Most hybrid employees have Friday off. Even if other days they go into office vary.
I noticed this too between Christmas week and New Years. My commute time was cut in half.
masta@reddit
That's why the smart folks always work Tuesday ~ Friday, taking Monday off...
Let's face it Monday's suck, especially Monday morning, so it's better to take that day off instead of Friday.
For some mysterious reason weekends seem longer when they are Saturday, Sunday, Monday... Compared to Friday, Saturday, Sunday... They are the same length but having Monday off just seems more length than Friday. Conversely, week weeks seem faster Tuesday to Friday. Not too mention the perk of great drives on Friday. Also, working in a deserted office on Friday is dreamy for an introvert who just wants to get work done in peace without those distracting coworkers...
I always condescendingly giggle inter monologue when work peeps brag about their Friday off.... "Noobs!" I think smugly to myself.
Neckrongonekrypton@reddit
Yeah I tried that for a while too
Now Iām laid off. I did it legitimately with my PTO.
You may wanna be careful who you lend that advice too
If youāre fucking indispensable, I mean like if they got rid of you there would be an absolute fucking noticeable difference on the bottom line because your gone, yeah that would fly.
If your average Allen and you do just as good as the guys that come in 5 a week? Gonna be a bad look.
Lotta places you have to prove that you are willing to work harder and produce more then a dude working in house to cement that idea to management like āok this guy consistently fuckin kills it, he hasnāt been in, he should be but heās kicking ass- why fuck up a good thing?ā
Not to mention, some people donāt have the luxury of working a job that lets them call off.
Guess you and I are lucky aināt we?
masta@reddit
My dude... I 1000% always .. always make sure I'm expendable. Because Indispensable people are a business liability. Just an FYI... Good managers hate when people make themselves indispensable, and so my goal in life is to document everything I've ever done, help other people out the wazooo... Going out of my way to make other people do their job as best they can, but more importantly let everyone know how to do my job. And my jobs, I always used to automate myself which give me more time to do nothing, do extra work. Or help other people. But at any given instant if I left the company anybody could go in and take over. Clear conscience my dude!
Neckrongonekrypton@reddit
Yeah they hate it because they canāt control that person with the same levers they would a dispensable employee. Lol theyāve effectively cemented themselves in a position of power within the org. Because what they do is in high demand, no one does it- or know one can do it. Itās some combo of the three Iāve seen.
Thatās pretty much what I did. Didnāt stop me from getting the axe. I was wrongfully terminated after giving that company so much of me. I felt like a shell when they kicked me to the curb. Like what did I do that warranted such poor treatment? Was it the 3-4 dozen reps I sent up that made millions? Was it the fact I trained up many people who went on to get promotions? Or was it the fact they were threatened by me because I didnāt really care for leadership? Iāll never know, and personally knowing wonāt change my position.
Personally my tasks were easy enough to figure out if you had discipline and a desire. But many simply didnāt. Our company promises best in class training but never delivered.
masta@reddit
Good companies don't usually fire people who make themselves expendable... It sounds ridiculous on a shallow superficial level. But with deep thoughts, exploring the full implications and entailment, then you will understand why with a eureka moment. That's what always happens, it's counter intuitive for the kind of people with the tendency to make themselves indispensable. You were not entirely wrong though, the only kind of truly indispensable person is the kind with superior intellect. The most straight forward way to make a genius expendable is to hire a second genius. The way to make a highly productive person expendable is to hire two extra mediocre people who combined output as much. The way to make a highly skilled niche topic person expendable is to strictly enforce a policy of documenting all business processes, every detail, all workflows, everything... With flow charts, paragraphs, etc...
Ultimately everyone will be happier, because everyone can plan & go on vacation, or have sick days, or... Take Monday's to work from home, or work 4x10's so you just take Monday's off... The organization still moves forward, everyone can be flexible because nobody is important, etc...

Facts. Almost 3 weeks of pure no traffic bliss
Alcoholic720@reddit
WFH 5 days a week, it's spectacular!
303onrepeat@reddit
Yes it is, thankfully my company got smart and shut down the very expensive office they were paying for on McKinney St in Dallas. I use to have to commute from McKinney down to that office twice a week, what a pain in the ass.
Alcoholic720@reddit
I was working in Los Colinas when COVID hit. Had an apartment off 635/Montfort so wasn't too bad, but once I started WFH, I've never gone back to an office thankfully. Been like what 5 years now?
Got rid of my apartment (have a house in Okieland)! I do miss all the awesome restaurants though. People sleep on DFW but so many awesome options and just random shit I've tried and loved.
I still miss 90s I Fratelli (MacArthur & 635 when it was still in the strip mall, best fucking Italian food ever and my granparents are from Italy!).
Also 70s/80s El Fenix (hell even into the early 2ks, not sure wtf happened).
NikkiVicious@reddit
We lived in some of the apartments in that triangle made by MacArthur/635/161, and I swear, I lived off of I Fratelli's for like a year. I actually bribed an Irving cop with a slice of pizza from there, one night that I was coming home from work.
I can't explain it, I normally don't like that style of Italian, but I Fratelli's is just different.
soberfella@reddit
Now itās Lambertiās, Lambertiās is solid too
854490@reddit
I used to think i Fratelli was a widespread thing like Sbarro or something, so I would be talking to people who aren't from here and I would try to drop dank memes about how if someone is going to schedule a pointless meeting and make my attendance mandatory even though I'm not even The Guy, there had better at least be square pizza. For some reason, this did not work
jamesdukeiv@reddit
lol my department is about to lose half their employees trying to force us back after five years of WFH and it being a promised benefit at hiring. My supervisor is pushing back for me to be in office once a month max, which I donāt mind, but itās annoying that they have to push at all.
JinFuu@reddit
Yeah, I work in Finance and wouldn't mind being in at the end of the month for a day or two for 'month close', but it feels like if you give that inch people would take a mile.
jamesdukeiv@reddit
Iām just glad he has my back that 3 days a week is not workable, when I live on the ragged edge of our ālocal area.ā
Alcoholic720@reddit
Our closest offices are Austin apparently, my job is in Connecticut.
Hell of a commute!
Lil_Sony@reddit
Bet your commute is glorious
saysthingsbackwards@reddit
That bed just gets harder to leave
Alcoholic720@reddit
I work east coast time and live central. I used to always work flex time so those were my normal hours.
Getting to that 7:30am meeting can be tough some days, lol.
Neckrongonekrypton@reddit
The house too. WFH is great
If you have military level discipline and mental fortitude.
JinFuu@reddit
It's why I always get dressed for work. Helps separate things somewhat.
On the 'unhealthy patterns', some of my fellow workers eventually got let go because they were out of the house running errands in the 'middle of the work day', which I don't understand at all.
Like, I do laundry and shit during the work day, but I'm always in the house and able to response to a Teams message/call when needed.
Neckrongonekrypton@reddit
Oh yeah. I had the discipline. Mentally I am somewhat avoidant. And social pressure kind of kept that in check
Working from home, showed me how much of what we do is just bullshit. It fed a part of me that said ātold ya, it was all pointless? Why bother?ā
I gradually slipped into reclusion. Everything so comfortable, the money, my place, I had it all man.
I didnāt lose my job because I didnāt go into the office, I lose my job due to politics really. Thatās the cold truth.
But I do recollect seeing people like that. That never made sense, and any company worth their salt is going to have an ungodly amount of SW and tech to track keystrokes, screen record, cam record etc.
And thatās the thing, those people think they are slick but forget to realize that any business allowing employees to work from home, has probably assessed risk and has measures in place to identify those abuses. They might not get caught right away, but if your leaving at 1:30pm for 1-2 hrs a day and your performance is mid- yeah thatāll get eyes on you and cause problems
Conversely, Iāve been a top producing dude at one point and had a fuck load of leeway. Unfair amounts. Like I only log in to wrap up 2-3 things and then get off because those 2-3 things basically covered my KPIs for month.
BlazinAzn38@reddit
Yeah my new role is WFH Monday and Friday and then it rotates between Tuesday/Wednesday in and Tuesday-Thursday in. Luckily taking the DART makes a ton of sense for me so Iāll be doing that instead of driving
playballer@reddit
Yep. And it only takes about 10-20% reduction of traffic to make the drive significantly better
Jasonam1811@reddit
Just don't drive east any day of the week. That's where all the terrible poor people are going and it's always crowded šš
mantisbae@reddit
Yeah but my job has almost every combination of 4 days as a schedule. Everyone works 4 days but not everyone works the same 4 days. 10 hour shifts. 6 different types of hourly shifts.
mechengineer89@reddit
I drove from north fort worth to mesquite every day. Can confirm Friday is much less traffic
Tasty_Two4260@reddit

Inner_Interaction_93@reddit

travel4work75126@reddit
I work from home Mondays and Fridays and go to the office the other days. My commute is really long (1hour, 15 min each way), normally. But I love my job, so I do it.
Mydogis_sodumb@reddit
I work 4 days a week in person. 10 hour shifts. I canāt ever go back to 5-10ās after having 3 days off for several years. Morning drive is about 20-25 minutes and home is 40-55

Monday and Thursday WFH, Tuesday and Wednesday office, off every Friday.
ToddtheRugerKid@reddit
I work 3 12s on weekends and driving out of the Love Field Area towards Roanoke on Friday some nights can get mildly annoying.
IdolCowboy@reddit
I've lived here all my life, and the Metropolis has gone from like 1.7 mil people in 1996 to almost 9 mil today. I think it was Thanksgiving in 95 or 96 and I drove at 11 in the morning from Farmers Branch off 635 to Rosemead in Carrolton and literally saw no other cars on the road. It was surreal. Now it's traffic even on Thanksgiving.
Ordinary_Minimum6050@reddit
Why would you drive from Dallas to Plano for work? Itās so much cheaper to live in McKinney or Allenā¦ or Plano!!!
SnortNorth1025@reddit
kids have monday off, so people may be taking fri & monday off. stop jinxing the traffic! don't talk about it, just enjoy it! last year it didn't seem so light even around holidays :(
YaGetSkeeted0n@reddit
For a while I was only in the office twice a week. Now we have to be in three days and canāt WFH both Monday and Friday. I think most people choose Friday to WFH; personally I prefer easing in to the week with Monday at home. Fridays at the office are quiet and traffic is way better.
Amanee97@reddit
Definitely agreed! Mondays are definitely better to wfh.. imo.

Tuesday is also the worst traffic day while on this topic.
Objective_Piece_8401@reddit
Agreed. Best to worst. Friday-Monday - Thursday- Wednesday - Tuesday. Donāt know what the problem is on Tuesdays but Dallas isnāt on itās a game.
millenix13@reddit
I think folks are most likely to take Monday or Friday off. Tuesday is probably the least taken day off. Tuesdays do indeed suck on 75.
Zealousideal-Arm1188@reddit
Man Tuesdays r painful
mushy_orange@reddit
I think a lot of companies have a majority of meetings on Tuesdays. Hence why most people tend to go in office on those days.
mangoburrito@reddit
This is my exact ranking too of the PGBT and DNT
monolith_blue@reddit
Also people leave early
Medi-okra@reddit
Remember that traffic increases exponentially with each subsequent vehicle on the road, so even a 10% reduction in car traffic on Fridays will probably feel closer to a 30-40% reduction in overall congestion
deadsixtythree@reddit
One rain drop on a Friday fux everything up

Substantial-Ad-8575@reddit

My job moved from Dallas to Plano-Frisco, dropped a 30 min commute to 15-18 minutes most rush hour days. But I am Hybrid/Travel, 70% travel. Only drive to work in DFW about 14-15 weeks a yearā¦
No-Canary-6774@reddit (OP)

Substantial-Ad-8575@reddit
Ouch. Must have a far drive then. Just 17.8 miles for my commute. Straight up 121 to SRT, aka DFW to DNT. And travel early and leave early 3 days a week. Not much traffic at 6:30am-3:30pm, usually is a 17-18 min drive.

I used to fly out weekly to work. Then I opted to drive to work more locally, and now at 52 I just walk from my bed, pit stop at the restroom and then a few steps more to my computer and zoom setup. I have clothes hanging right there if I need to put on a work costume.
