Not a Mechanical Failure. The went to adjust the brakes and the Chok for the wheels had a flat spot causing it to be defective when the trolley started to roll. The Trolleys work in great condition, this was user error
Just to throw it out there because I know one of the guys that works for the trolleys. This happened because of a mechanical failure of the trolley car.
You witnessed someone being a good Samaritan by putting their vehicle behind the trolley that seems to have had a brake issue. They are clearly trying to keep it from rolling away while the conductor seems to be trying to put a wedge on the track to stop the trolley.
Good thing you moved away from people doing a good deed at the expense of their personal property.
I have close connection to the company. Trolley operator wanted the brakes looked at. Mechanic (guy on the ground) put a chok under the wheel but the chok was defective so when the brakes were released the chok did not stop the trolley. The trolley rolled back into the suv, and traffic stopped the suv from driving backwards (fear of getting rear ended). The mechanic then tried to wedge something under the wheel to keep it from rolling further (why he was on the ground).
the operator then ran to the other end of the trolley to hit the emergency stop button. Nobody was hurt and SUV took minimal damage.
He is probably trying to get a wedge behind the wheels to stop the trolley but it wasn’t working. Probably why it bounces during the first few seconds of the video
You're probably right. It gave me uncanny valley vibes. Seemed to be moving unnaturally. Never seen someone crawling that fast on their hands and knees.
This is funny to watch but before we assume anything negative, my guess would be the brakes or something on tram failed, indicated by crawling guy. The SUV was either in the wrong spot wrong time or thought it could support the tram from rolling any faster

I have many questions but the only one I can formulate is “Why?”
lenny446@reddit
Mechanical failure of the trolley car.

It was not a mechanical failure of the trolley, it was User Error, the trolley is in amazing condition, everything works correctly
lenny446@reddit
I misspoke on “of the trolley” but what was supposed to stop it.
Playful-Baby-5398@reddit
metal Chok on the track. that bites into the rail. it had a flat spot and so it skipped
lenny446@reddit
Yeah I was later clarified by my roommate what went wrong.

I am too scared to ask what in the hell I just saw. I am so glad I moved from the downtown/uptown area. So weird

the car was not there to stop the trolley, the trolley rolled into it and multiple tons doesn’t stop for a 3,000lb suv.
The conductor was in the car and the Man on the ground was a mechanic
togerdisk@reddit
Thanks for the explanation because this video didn’t provide that context. However, Dallas downtown and uptown is still weird.

The brakes have been malfunctioning on the trams a lot lately!
Playful-Baby-5398@reddit
no they haven’t
SamwiseGoody@reddit
Anyone have the what or why on this? Were they trying to stop the tram? Did the tram hate that car?

I think the brakes failed on the tram and the SUV was giving, the guy on the tracks trying to get a wedge behind the wheel, an assist.

I was wondering why the trolley was going against traffic like that - guess it was rolling backwards and couldn't stop
