Can’t help but seeing Michael Madsen dancing and dousing that cop with gasoline. That whole scene never sat right with me….thankfully. That kid…that scene….after, with him and Tim Roth should have won an Oscar. (I don’t know if they did or not, I’m not that far into it) I’M F’NG DYING HERE!! Powerful stuff
I’m prone to deliver a “Fuck you, White” every now and then. And with the questioning looks I follow up with “I didn’t create the situation, I’m just dealin’ with it!” Followed by more questioning looks.
Hollywood has done more to normalise torture than all the fascist wingnuts combined, multiplied 1000.
Tim Roth is Super-Cool.
Torture scenes in movies? Please. Fuck off.
i'm just old enough to have seen r.d. in the theatre. iirc, i saw it with a group that included a high school sweetie. what i remember most, is our hysterical laughter when the STAND WENT OFF.
This filmed was banned from video in the UK for a few years. The same period of time I was a film student. I think I saw it at least 10 times at the cinema… the little art house cinemas had late night showings quite often, and I’d go to just about every one!
Tarantino’s best work to me. It’s so sparse, yet so packed with brilliance. (Filmmakers tend to work better when they don’t have stacks of cash to throw around and they have to be clever).
“Little Greeb Bag” - George Baker . Dutch musician , who , I thought , reveived a few thousand (? correct me if I’m wrong please) dollar for his song to be added to the movie .
We loved it before Pulp Fiction was a thing. And because of that we knew what to expect with Pulp Fiction
(which we were enjoying while others left the almost empty cinema early...).
Apparently before the “scene” Masson threw the police officer into the trunk of his car and drove around for a half hour so when they started filming he was truly terrified
I used to live across the street from our local independent theater - The Mayan. One of my roommates worked there for a while and would always get us in for free and cheap popcorn.
Went to see this with no idea what it was about. Absolutely blown away.
Early 90s was a gold mine for fantastic independent cinema.
Back in the late 90s, Film Threat dropped the bomb that it's a remake of Ringo Lam's City on Fire, that Tarantino didn't give Lam credit for. I was a Tarantino fan until I read that article. I haven't looked at him the same since.
K Billy's super sounds of the 70's, keeps on... rollin'.
'I can't stop this feeling, deep inside of me. Girl, you just don't realize, what you do to me...'
Worked at a video store when this came out, customer came in excited to rent it because she said her friend told her he was in it. Her friend, it turns out, played Marvin Nash, the cop/torture victim. She was not so excited when she returned it.
Great movie. I think like a lot of ppl saw it after pulp fiction.
It was the friend who was a movie guy who told you if I thought pulp fiction was great you need to check out this other film he made called reservoir dogs.
Incredible movie. Still watch it today and lives up some 30yrs later
I saw in the theatre. It’s still in my top ten and one of my most watched films. I was honestly disappointed with Pulp Fiction and the rest of Tarintino’s filmography. He peaked with Reservoir Dogs.
YES. Released in art house cinemas and absolutely nothing like either the mainstream or art house films of the time - Woody Allen never cut someone's ear off.
This was a huge part of my high school years. Tarantino in general but this in particular. Got me as far as moving to FL to explore film school at FSU after college.
Yeah. I always loved movies growing up, but this is one of the ones that blew my mind. It was so ahead of its time yet so perfect for the time it released as well. If Tarantino had quit making films after Reservoir Dogs he would still be a legend, but the fact that he continues to put out some of the best movies of all time is awesome as well.
Still one of my favorite movies of all time. So many exceptionally good films were made in those few years.
My husband does not like it and finds it too violent.
Went into the theater blind without any idea what I was walking into…
Came out a changed man to say the least.
Probably the best theater movie experience I’ve had.
This played at the movie theater I worked at back in the day. When we heard "Stuck in the Middle" start, we knew to get to out stations because people were going to start walking out and demanding refunds.
I went to see it in cinema with a friend. First I didn't quite understand the point because for some reason I thought it'd be an actual heist movie. But I remember loving the dialogues and the music (one of the songs was performed by a Swede, so that made me happy). It was one of the first films I could see "legally" on my own so it was an interesting experience.
Me describing it to a friend after seeing it in the theatre:
It's f'n incredible! It's all dialogue and takes place all in one room.
My friend- that sounds boring AF
Me- you're f'n stupid
94ish we went on a bus trip to a casino with my company (not company sponsored just organized by employees) this bus was probably half/half white and black people (i love everyone) somebody in the group handed the bus driver a Reservoir Dogs VHS so everyone in the bus can watch....OH BOY at some point the the N word starts being said in the movie and i swear the bus driver had to pull over and calm a near race riot on the bus...it was crazy.
The bus driver pulled out the RD tape and replaced it with the Great Santini...lol "1...2...3...Cry!!"
In a local video store on a Friday night, whatever year it hit video, walking back and forth looking for some new release that got my interest. Finally some random stranger walked up a said ‘ " you HAVE to see this fucking movie!".first and only time that ever happened. We watched it twice that night and returned it late to watch 3 more time.
