Where can I find the absolute best French fries in Dallas?
Posted by _Javier@reddit | Dallas | View on Reddit | 194 comments
I'm open to all kinds—crispy, loaded, shoestring, waffle, steak fries, curly, truffle, you name it! Looking for everything from fast food favorites to high-end gourmet spots. Who does fries the best, and why?
Hntro@reddit
Dallas needs a Belgian frites joint. Nothing else’s compares.
Ateam043@reddit
This but they have to be serve with that Belgian sauce.
Went to Belgium in 18 & 19 and couldn’t have enough of their fries and spicy ketchup and what looked like some thousand island sauce.
Xyllus@reddit
Belgium has like 20+ sauces and everyone has their favorite. You may be thinking of Samurai or Andalouse
YaGetSkeeted0n@reddit
is it just me or was there a period from like 2009-2015 where every newfangled burger joint liked to do fancy ketchups and mayos and sauces and aiolis, specifically for dipping fries? the fries themselves may not have been prepared in the Belgian style but this was definitely a thing. couldn't throw a dart at a map of burger joints without hitting some place with like wasabi mayo or old bay mayo.
Xyllus@reddit
definitely, and I was here for it! nowadays its just ketchup and they look at me weird when I ask for mayo :(
Kfrop@reddit
You have to ask for Aioli 😬
Xyllus@reddit
Mayo is the MVP man
YaGetSkeeted0n@reddit
I miss it too. Most places don't even have fancy ketchup any more!
Ateam043@reddit
It was the one that look liked thousand island, orange color is the best way I can describe. Just searched it and yeah, looks like samurai sauce.
GIVE_US_THE_MANGIA@reddit
Dayum lmk when you find one! Best fries of my life was high on shrooms in Amsterdam after being up all night at the Ice Bar then a nightclub called Air. I would do anything for those fries, including giving extra of my frites sauce to anyone who asked. Sheesh
sequencedStimuli@reddit
Meyboom Brasserie on Lowest Greenville is a good Belgian spot. I haven’t had their fries sober yet, but friends of mine like them.
narconaught5@reddit
Agree, just got back from Belgium and can't stop thinking about fries and sauce.
sevencases@reddit
They opened a Dutch frites place years ago in deep ellum. I think it was called Amsterdam Fries or something like that. Sadly, it didn’t last.
Ok-Letter3881@reddit
Hop daddy truffle fries
SCUMDOG_MILLIONAIRE@reddit
Fake truffle oil makes me sad
FuckJanice@reddit
Fun fact, truffles actually have a very short shelf life. That flavor is a chemical set to mimic the aroma of white truffles, which is akin to the smell of sweaty feet.
playballer@reddit
And everyone that sells truffle stuff absolutely smothers that crap in there. I like it but the quantity if grotesque
Gilded_Mage@reddit
This!
naking@reddit
There's just something about the taste of truffle oil I don't like. Seems almost like rancid is used as a flavor profile. I've tried a couple of time but haven't liked it yet. It's not you, it's me

Rodeo Goat
GarthVaderBlarts@reddit
The cheese fries surprise at Rodeo Goat is good but you’re guaranteed to have a volcanic, blow out diarhea within an hour of ingesting.
United_Sheepherder23@reddit
🤣🤣 omg bro what the fuck is the deal with that place. I had a burger there once and literally awful poo problems after
mcbizkit02@reddit
Yeah I go no surprise. Just bacon and jalapeños.
PremeTeamTX@reddit
You may wanna get that checked out
troutforbrains@reddit
Hudson House has really good fries, but only the plain ones. The dressed up ones don’t work because the fries are thin cut and the ratio of potato to topping isn’t right.
But the plain ones, with a cheeseburger and a cocktail during happy hour prices? Great meal.
TexasGirl1964@reddit
Hudson house is gross
40Delta@reddit
This is the correct answer.
blacknoir23@reddit
They were too thin for me but the burger is amazing
ashleighagate@reddit
I love the truffle fries! I think about them often 😅
Little_Baby_6450@reddit
All the Nick Badovinus restaurants have good fries. Neighborhood Services, National Anthem, Town Hearth, Brass Ram.
Melodic_Ice_3265@reddit
Came here to day Neighborhood Services! So good.
tripleblue85@reddit
Neighborhood Services fries with the voodoo sauce is just so goddamn good!
what_happens_larry@reddit
Burger house across from SMU
GIVE_US_THE_MANGIA@reddit
Naw the fries are legit below average, mid at best. Seasoning is good but that cant save them. Still a lot of nostalgia, good prices, and worth a trip. But for the best fries in Dallas? I'm sorry but you must not go to much.
hereforthegangbangg@reddit
This is the correct answer
Wonderful-Bite7007@reddit
It’s the only answer. The rest of this thread is pointless.
blacknoir23@reddit
I was so sad I thought they were gonna be good to me but they were so bad to me. 😭 but… the onion rings are incredible.
texan01@reddit
It’s not necessarily the fries, but that seasoning salt is the bomb.
PlantOG@reddit
You should check out Fiesta brands french fry seasoning. I put that shit on way more than just French fries. Perfect blend of salt, sugar, and msg with a bit of allium spices.
texan01@reddit
I'll have to get some!
blacknoir23@reddit
I just might try it again this weekend.
texan01@reddit
burgers are good, on rings are great, the fries by themselves are pretty crap, but the seasoning salt is the best thing.
connivingbitch@reddit
Those fries were among my favorites but after high school, I got a little burned out on the seasoning. I can still handle it on the burgers, but it seems they they’ve overdone it more recently.
naking@reddit
I used to go to that place in the '70'sm and '80's, before they had the "patio" seating. My dad always said the smaller the shack the better the burger
Modi508@reddit
Manhattan Project Brewery. Worth going for even if you're not in to beer.
ModernMastadon@reddit
Seconding Manhattan Project. I recommend this place specifically for the fries, which are the best I’ve had in Dallas over 20 years. The beer, coffee and vibes are great too.
SameSadMan@reddit
Ah yes, vibes. What else matters these days.
GIVE_US_THE_MANGIA@reddit
Damn I guess you really love up to your username! News flash but "vibes" have always mattered. Maybe you want to call it '"beauty" or "aesthetics" but nice ambiance has mattered at least as long as humans have kept a written record. Maybe you don't like that Gen Z uses a new word for this or has slightly different sensibilities, but that's on you not them. Rant over, I'm a few beers deep and this is more about me than you, genuinely hope you have a nice day gent.
PathologicalVodka@reddit
I was literally just there today and was not really impressed. The texture was off and they were bland.
Complex-Dimension-50@reddit
Don’t blow up the spot bro
Erika348o@reddit
I'm going now.....
Embarrassed_Lab7320@reddit
Too late I told everyone and we all coming now.

Hah…
NothingButTheTea@reddit
Beat me to it. 100% this
BabyBearMan@reddit
Oh they best. I go for a beer and Salmon salad. Then blow it with a large order of fries.
MSHinerb@reddit
Came to say this. There is no rival. They are the best.
Level-Aside@reddit
Where is that at. I love beer
BatteredSealPup@reddit
It is near trinity groves tucked away just off commerce street
degelia@reddit
Dairy-ette in east dallas. They are fresh peeled and chopped in the kitchen, never frozen. They are really thin, got the whole crispy outside soft inside thing going. Fries, with a burger and cold root beer in a mug or a freshly made chocolate shake? I’m dead
Pure-Breath-6885@reddit
Their chili-cheeseburger!!!
lucidlunarlatte@reddit
Tie between dillas and rodeo goat for me. Dillas because the fries IN the casadilla is revolutionary, the gordo is my favorite. Rodeo goat has those really nice fresh wedges if you are just talking straight fry action.
nevertellya@reddit
Lol. Quesadila :)
thecobra42@reddit
Quesadilla lol
lucidlunarlatte@reddit
I’m so sorry I tried 😭 I’m a Texan and I just be going by the sounds, I’m unfortunately one of those “Ca-sah-dill-a” folks, but I’m learning! Quesadilla because the cheese -ofc 🤦♀️
angiethecrouch@reddit
Thank youuuuu... I couldn't with that mess!!! 🤣🤣🤣
KaliaHaze@reddit
anddd Rodeo Goat gives an obscene amount of fries for what, $3.99? boy
marks_reddit@reddit
Came here to say Rodeo Goat fries too. Really good.
xgoronx@reddit
I haven’t had Dilla’s in so long. Now I’m craving a gordo lol

S&S cheeseteak. Philly cheese fries or tots if you want to mix it up.
Impossible-Praline61@reddit
Wingstop..their fries dipped in their ranch. *chef's kiss* Maple and Motor has delicious fries. We've had the loaded fries at Rodeo Goat, and it's just too much. Very greasy. The steak fries at Texas Roadhouse are good, but you have to order them unseasoned. Whatever that seasoning is they put on them just ruins them.
metalspin@reddit
waffle fries at birdies or nodding donkey or goodfriend beer garden
kabob21@reddit
I’m a simple guy. Braums and Shake Shack for crinkle cut; Arby’s and Jack-in-the-box for curly fries; Taco Bell, Popeyes and 5 Guys for seasoned and/or battered fries. I’m not going to any place fancy just for fries.
MSHinerb@reddit
If your answer isn’t manhattan project, it’s because you haven’t been there. They have the best fries in Dallas. Maybe the best fries I’ve ever had.
nickgomez@reddit
They were pretty solid the couple times I ordered em!
Choice_Start_5654@reddit
Uhh… WINGSTOP! Not one shout out to them! Kenny’s burger joint in Plano has solid fries too. I like their truffle fries. Also, this place in Plano. Austin Avenue. Ask for their loaded fries. Make sure to tell them with cheese. Not nacho cheese. Had a mix up there once.
nickgomez@reddit
I think the supplier has changed or they’ve cheaped out over the years but yeah good seasoning good ranch.
imalwayshongry@reddit
I know folks are going to throw out some bougie places and I’m sure they’re great, but man oh man does Wingstop make damn good fries!
Texas-my-Texas@reddit
Yep. I was scrolling for Wingstop
DonaldDoubleU@reddit
Fish Shack in Plano.
SimpleVegetable5715@reddit
Braum's 🤷♀️ Crispy on the outside, tender in the middle, crinkle cut to scoop up more ketchup. I had the best shoestring fries at the Rainforest Cafe at Grapevine Mills, but that was years ago. I'm not sure if they're still on the menu. The sauce was really good.
deadlymugwort@reddit

Wonderful-Ant-9448@reddit
Had this last night lol. Solid battered fry, you can get them alone, carne asada, or mar y tierra
steeniel@reddit
Yep I got them on a whim not expecting much and was like damn these might be some of the best fries I’ve had 😂
Mindless-Duty-3326@reddit
Central market for regular and sweet potato fries. They fresh to order, no preservatives and $3 for a box.
BuffaloBreeze@reddit
Mike's chicken in oak lawn has amazing fried chicken and the fries are just as good.
They are the super crispy crunchy style.
lilchiflada@reddit
Goodwins. Also fried in beef tallow and absolutely fucking divine.
sequencedStimuli@reddit
Just had these recently (with the Patty Melt, also highly recommend) and can confirm they were amazing.
Cactusblossom_thg@reddit
I’m not a French fry person, but I recently had some that my husband bought at Shake Shack and they were really, really good!

Goldie’s and Drakes for more upscale options! But for casual I totally agree with the person that said wing stop

EvadTB@reddit
Not sure about the absolute best, but I really love the fries from Bonchon. You can get them seasoned with herbs and cheese and it's delectable.
vascr0@reddit
Village Burger bar in Legacy. Great shoestring fries that aren't overcooked. Amazing sweet potato fries too. Haven't had their parm fries yet but with the shoestring fries as a base I imagine it's also delicious.

wes45454@reddit
I would agree with the comments on Manhattan Project. The only time ive had better was getting a happy hour omakase at Uchiko in Plano. Its not even on the menu, but the chef made something similar to beef tallow fries, but with a better crisp and fluffier inside, and I dont think ive had anything better in my life. Downside is you only got like 8 of them.
Im considering going back just to see if they still will make it.

I don’t really do loaded/topped fries - but strictly plain fries? You can’t go wrong with Rodeo Goat or Cuates.
Rodeo Goat is the best bang for your buck, fresh from the potato, skin included type fries. Cuates is spectacular because bomb ass fries at any taco joint is worth talking about. & they’re so so good.

I mentioned above anywhere that has Belgian fries but for a fast food joint….
I know In N Out is hated on by Texans, but try them “light well done with spread”. Game changer.

Never been to a single popeyes where everything didnt taste like stale oil that hadnt been changed in yrs. Instead they just keep adding a quart at a time to compensate for what fumes off. Bet that shit is black like motor oil

Yeah I don’t eff with Popeyes much besides the chicken sandwich a long time ago but the place I mentioned it a chain called “Louisiana famous fried chicken”

What Jack in the Crack are you going to that doesn't give you hard and cold curly fries? There's some good ones in there, but always some really tough broken ones too.
Key-Lecture-678@reddit
I dunno. I go to the ones in richardaon and they come out perfect evefy time for me. Soft and flavorful with a fsint crisp outside. The one on coit by hd and the one on slapahoe and 75
Yeah, frying is a skill and if u eat at any fast food chains, the ones in the hood dont follow instructions well and they prob come out all jacked up.
normanboulder@reddit
In n out for crispy fries? HA They are flavorless limpy cold potatoes sticks at best. And if you get them "we'll done" they are flavorless rigid inedible potatoes sticks at best. And no, animal style doesn't count because if you have to smother the fries in sauce and cheese to be good then the fries aren't good.
Key-Lecture-678@reddit
I find they taste quite strongly of potato. The crispiness is debatrable, but ive not found any much crispier tbh. Recs plz.
I dont care for any of their sauces tbh. Raw onion and mustard for me.
