The tech industry was in a huge boom in the 2010s and overhired due to excess capital. With the financial downturn of Covid and other events over the last 5 years, tech companies have laid off many, both to reduce headcount and to restructure to handle different priorities. This all has little/nothing to do with LLMs.
The market demand for IT has gone up and down since time immemorial. All those jobs are absolutely not taken up by AI making multiples of people redundant and replaced by one overworked coder in a back room.
The #1 failure of this chart is that before 3.5 I didn't know anyone who used it. There is no reason to correlate the job listing decline in early 2022 to AI.
For this to be appropriate, you would have to see it mapped against the development market and adoption of AI by programmers along with it.
A Priori, there would be a lead of decline before adoption making this chart not causal.
