Do you drink hotel tap water from the bathroom?

Have been boiling water from the hotel bathroom tap. Was wondering is that the norm? Or should I be buying mineral water from the store.

It's not the water you should be worried about, it's the kettle. There are LOTS of stories of what hotel room kettles get used for.

I'll bite... what are the kettles used for?
foxhill_matt@reddit
A handy place for a wee, a poo or a vom.

Was the toilet backed up or something?
foxhill_matt@reddit
Nope, it's just easier to reach

Don't worry the poor bastard, a quick glance at their posting history shows they're badly troubled with irrational anxieties.

Not sure why you need to boil it... ?
All tap water in the UK is extremely safe to drink, irrespective of what room the tap happens to be in. They're all connected to the same water main.
neurospiced@reddit
Because some water comes from a tank rather than straight from the mains, and those tanks are usually really old and may not be safe to be drank. Usually it will be a bathroom tap that you can't drink from so in a UK hotel room it depends

If it wasn't drinkable there would be signs all over it.

It’s the only way I consume water in almost any setting. Why wash a glass when you can guzzle from the bathroom tap. Kitchen taps are ok as well but usually higher and with more splashing.
EvilInCider@reddit
In the UK yes without question, any other country I just Google it. Most are perfectly safe to drink.
scifisam2020@reddit
If you're boiling it anyway, then you're totally safe.
Most UK hotels are safe to drink water from the bathroom tap, though it might be a bit warm. Ask when you check in if the bathroom water is drinkable, and if they say yes they don't mean "if you boil it," they mean it's safe to just drink.
PoinkPoinkPoink@reddit
It’s perfectly safe to drink but I never drink it because it rarely runs cold enough to be pleasant.

Can I drink tap water in the UK? Yes
Quality Your water must be safe to drink
The standards, legislation and testing for tap water in the UK are more stringent than for bottled water.

Not since the murder of Elisa Lam.
AnselaJonla@reddit
You realise that UK hotels draw their water from the mains, not from a water tank on the roof.
DameKumquat@reddit
In the UK, yes. Other countries, depends on the local advice and then on how it tastes. Some may be safe but tastes like a swimming pool.
OverCategory6046@reddit
UK tapwater is very safe to drink. If tapwater isn't safe to drink at any point, iirc must have a "Non potable" sign.
Better-Bathroom-8496@reddit
I drink it as it comes from the tap. Perfectly safe and better for planet earth!
FelisCantabrigiensis@reddit
I drink water from hotel taps in the UK, and most of Europe, and the USA - unless it tastes really foul which sometimes happens. I don't boil it, unless I'm planning to make tea.
Luminous_chilies@reddit
just to be safe I'd buy mineral water from the store, in most buildings it should be the same water but you don't know how old the building is nor their pipe works
Accomplished_Self451@reddit
boiling will make it safe to drink so you're alright. Just don't drink it straight from the tap.
