If somebody described another person to you as "local", what do you take that to mean?

Not as in "they're from around here" but more like "man, he's so *local*!"

Has never moved away from where they grew up, maybe shown very little interest in travelling too. Think Kaleb Cooper.

Calls his son foreign because he was born in Oxford

Round my way, I'd assume a little inbred

Based on The League of Gentlemen, I'd assume they mean the person is quite odd, possibly inbred, wary of strangers. Someone who says "we don't want their type round here".

We used to live in a self-contained and rather down-at-heel part of town. Our neighbour was very local - as in: you couldn't imagine them living in another part of town, they were born less than a mile away and seemingly had no aspirations of one day living somewhere a bit nicer. They were also a total wanker but that's by the by.

Possibly intended as a synonym for parochial

They likely mean 'basic' I reckon. Seems like it could have similar connotations.

That you're in a tourist town or village and they were born and live there.
