Whatever. They should use a different name for the EV and build a real Blazer. Something to compete with the Bronco and 4Runner etc.
GM doesn't offer anything midsize SUV wise for the more adventurous crowd anymore. They're all CUV's.
type-of-thing@reddit
They should offer the Blazer EV and the gas Blazer for sale side by side and see which one sells more.
ILikeTewdles@reddit
I believe they do now. The Blazer EV should be it's current form and they should build a real gas powered blazer that is more off-road focused.
spongebob_meth@reddit
i like that people associate the "blazer" name with only the K5 and not the 30 years of pure garbage that came after it.
its already been tarnished lol
sasquatch_melee@reddit
The last gen that shared with the S10 wasn't that bad. A friend got theirs to 600k miles on the factory engine/trans.
Boring and anemic, maybe. But I wouldn't call it garbage. They lasted way longer than they should have. I still see S10s running around here and there despite living in the rust belt.
spongebob_meth@reddit
I see 10x as many rangers and explorers still on the road as S10s and blazers. If anything it's pretty damning.
Kavani18@reddit
I see way more Blazers than old Explorers. I do see Rangers more than S10s, though
spongebob_meth@reddit
It's been years since I've seen a blazer on the road. I see many of them parked in the weeds though.
Kavani18@reddit
I see tons of them on the road. Often beat up and with 400k+ miles on them. I live in the South, though, so rust and other degradation like that isn’t really a factor
spongebob_meth@reddit
Probably depends more on buyer preference than anything.
From that era i see way more 4runners and jeeps than I do explorers or blazers.
biggsteve81@reddit
I always associate Blazer with the S-10 Blazer (and the Jimmy). Probably because I rode to school in one as a kid, and several of my friends had them in high school.
segfaultxr7@reddit
I'm puzzled by that too. I'm in my 40s, and I always thought of the Blazer as the "we have an Explorer at home" for devoted GM loyalists. Growing up, I'd see about 500 of those for every "real" one.
spongebob_meth@reddit
My wife had a 90s jimmy when we were dating. That was the biggest piece of junk I've ever driven. Worse than an explorer , of that says anything.
Drzhivago138@reddit
IDK if this is true of others' experience, but I always found the S-10 and its variants had a low seating position compared to a Ranger. Almost like GM was trying to make a BOF car again.
ILikeTewdles@reddit
Right lol, maybe it's because my family had a k5 growing up, that's the Blazer to me.
Dangerous-Air2566@reddit
I've heard a GMC Jimmy EV with retro styling is still being kicked around
mada447@reddit
Colorado?
CookieMonsterFL@reddit
A mid-size truck. Probably the closest thing chevys got though.
piZan314@reddit
They just have to make an SUV version of it. Like the 4Runner is to the Tacoma.
ILikeTewdles@reddit
Yep exactly. It would be nice to have a rugged midsized SUV from GM. I don't need a truck but would like something like the Ford Bronco or 4Runner from GM.
They have the Tahoe AT4 but that thing is massive and $$.
The Bronco should be a smaller body on frame SUV with real 4x4 and the 2.7 turbo engine or something. They could build it on the Colorado/Canyon truck platform.
Kinda like what the Hummer H3 used to be but not so gawdy and dumb. That's the issue with GM, they always have to go over the top like with their new EV Hummer. Crab walk? Come on....how stupid.
nissanfan64@reddit
I’ve been boggled for like fifteen years over how Chevy is still around. They kept killing the ok-ish models and replaced them with absolute trash.
The fun cars are gone. The cheaper SUVs are gone. Both replaced by a sea of crossovers that all look the same. Couple that with the hopelessly bad choices as to their engines and general reliability and it shocks me anyone buys Chevy products.
ILikeTewdles@reddit
Yep, same here. I actually have really liked the past GM's we've owned. They're not the most reliable but I like the way they lay out their vehicles, they're smooth and comfortable etc. They were also easy to DIY and parts were easily accessible and affordable.
But like you said, then they started swapping everything out with their generic CUV lineup with turbo engines and some CVT's, they lost me. No more cheap sedans or a SUV that can actually go off-road.
nissanfan64@reddit
Oh my god, my old ‘97 Buick Regal GS? Phenomenal vehicle. God I loved that thing. Our old GMT400 and 800 trucks? Unkillable. Even our old Envoy and Blazer, which I personally didn’t care for, are leagues better than any of the new options.
It’s insane how GM still has customers. All they have for low end are crossovers built in Asia using tiny little unreliable bombs for engines. Then for real SUVs their goodwill of using LS based V8’s is basically gone since those things are riddled with issues now.
ILikeTewdles@reddit
Right on, totally agree. I'd like a new GM but even their new Colorado/Canyon are junk. I went to check them out and they're just crap. Shiny plastic everywhere, LCD cluster, some buttons only in the infotainment. Just feels crappy.
dfjdkdofkfkfkfk@reddit
I don't understand this rush to go electrich when the infrastructure isn't exactly there and charging takes half an hour at best. Just collectively invest in that shit before making another 200 miles range ev.
Agloe_Dreams@reddit
Because the edges don’t actually matter to the majority.
The vast amount of new car buyers are homeowners who can charge at home. The average distance driven by them per day is 32-40miles. For these people, the EV is a net benefit, charging at home means zero gas stops, that’s time saved vs gas. Then you have gas savings, maintenance savings in time and money, etc.
For most people, the ev is more convenient, not less.
Now, road trips are a real factor, they make up less than 1% of all drives, how often a person does one is a purchasing decision. Keep in mind though that a full charge on a road trip is only needed for distances over 350 miles or so. Most people will only need an extra 15% buffer or so. The fact that you charge at home really changes how you treat “filling the tank”
type-of-thing@reddit
Too bad EVs don’t last more than 5 years.
dfjdkdofkfkfkfk@reddit
My frustration actually comes from having to do multiple road trips every year for varying reasons therefore I can't buy an EV. Guess you are right, I'm not the market for them but I would love to be able to just charge at home and also have something that can accelerate at a decent pace instead of my shitbox. Someday in the future hopefully.
Agloe_Dreams@reddit
That’s entirely reasonable. The charging network thing is getting better which is nice.
I had a 2018 model 3 that I sold last month, the 250Kw/h max charge speed translated into some really fast charge stops, some being 10-80% in like 25 minutes. After driving for ~180 miles I really tended to be open to not driving for a little while ha.
My new Mach-E has a longer range than the Model 3 did however. I was able to do a trip I would need to charge the Tesla on with no charging at all. Supposedly the 300 mile range number is accurate. Some of the Hyundais out-charge the Teslas now, Tesla’s fudging of range numbers seems to play with things.
And well, china is off in the far distance smiling about a 10-80% charge in 10 minutes and battery swapping stations lol.
biggsteve81@reddit
I don't think battery swapping stations are the future, but if they are Tesla is screwed. They now mount the front and rear seats of the Model Y to the battery itself before shoving it into the vehicle, as the battery lid is the cabin floor.
dfjdkdofkfkfkfk@reddit
It's getting better in terms of battery and charging technologies and yeah china is way ahead of the rest of the world. What worries me about chinese cars is the build quality, especially when it comes to the chassis of the car. I don't mind a little trim rattle but serious corrosion after mere months of purchase is something I heard many times and I don't live in a country where they salt the roads regularly.
Agloe_Dreams@reddit
So Polestar has been shipping Chinese cars for about five years here in the US. They are much better built than Tesla’s cars. I test drove one and walked away with my mind blown. I think people expect bottom of the barrel cheap like they knew of cheap Chinese products rather than the real reason your phone is made in China. Some of that I think is nationalist propaganda or maybe just fear of the unknown. The fact of the matter is that with them making most of everything high tech…they are actually better at it in many ways. They just need to get there.
Granted, I don’t think that will ever happen in the US now.
amazinjoey@reddit
The new Chinese electric cars are good but with that being said. Polestar and it's platform is developed in Sweden, Gothenburg to be exact by Polestar, CEVT (now Zeekr) and sister companies around Gothenburg. China specific parts of those plattforms are developed in china
Assembly and manufacturing is in china.
Used to work there, as per my top post
retroPencil@reddit
Next time you're on a road trip, act like you have to charge and make stops, stretch legs, etc. Use ABRP to see how a simulated EV trip feels like.
dfjdkdofkfkfkfk@reddit
I'm an anxious fuck by nature so I simulated literally yesterday for the first time at home and I'd worry about having to top up that last 2% in case I needed to go somewhere even though it's completely an unreasonable thought lmao. I wouldn't really mind the low range if the car could just charge up within 10 minutes. Because I don't really take a break while driving since the most I drive is about 600 km at a single go. It's completely doable but for longer trips for sure I'd stop but then one stop would be enough for me but not for the car.
retroPencil@reddit
What's the harm if you took an extra break or two?
danny_ish@reddit
Anxiety **
retroPencil@reddit
Sound like you shouldn't even be operating a heavy machinery if you are too anxious to take a break.
You need medical help.
dfjdkdofkfkfkfk@reddit
I have a bladder condition that makes it very hard for me to use public restrooms. I'm stone cold behind wheel, never made a mistake in all my years of driving be it in pitch dark or on slippery highway roads. But leave it to reddit to make wildly inaccurate assumptions about peoples mental health and shit.
retroPencil@reddit
Good luck with kidney stones!
dfjdkdofkfkfkfk@reddit
Thank you for your good wishes.
MajesticBread9147@reddit
That depends on your location and lifestyle honestly.
For me, if I need to go somewhere more than a couple hundred miles, chances are it's cheaper and quicker to take Amtrak or fly using credit card points.
dfjdkdofkfkfkfk@reddit
We mostly travel for medical reasons. I can't just drag someone with me who just got out of surgery a few days ago on a train or something.
Digital-Soup@reddit
Not to mention how many are two car households. With one EV and one ICE car you're always covered.
waveradar@reddit
My 1st hand experience with road tripping EVs is its fine for one supercharger stop. That gives me about a 500 mile radius per day with my family. That’s a lot of places.
After that first stop though you really never get back to a 80+% without committing more time than you’d like at a charger. The first stop for 20-30 mins is no problem, especially with kids, as the car is ready to rock before you’re done getting everyone thru the bathroom, getting a snack, and etc. By the second stop though, everyone is just ready to get there. That’s been my experience at least.
Any car I replace from here on out will be with an EV because the tech is only improving, there’s more charging stations every year including those at hotels/Airbnbs, and the reality is I only do a road trip over 500 miles in my personal car about every 3-5 years. At that interval I can just rent an ICE or just take an extra an hr with an EV. The convenience of day-to-day living (leaving with a full tank from home, no oil changes, instant torque, quiet drive) just out weighs the occasional drawbacks. Add in the current generation of EVs that offer the capability to be a battery backup at your house for a few days during power outages and benefits extend beyond traditional car ownership.
LionTigerWings@reddit
Because you charge at home. I have had an ev for like 9 months, and have already driven 16,000 miles. I still have not spent a single second at a charging stations. I expect one day I will and it will either be due to a road trip, or poor planning. I always tell people that pretend you left every morning with a quarter tank of gas, how often would you need to go to the gas station? Answering that question (assuming you can install a charger or have access) answers whether or not EVs are a good fit.
Because of this you don’t need as many charging stations as gas stations.
I think EVs are ready for homeowners or people with easy access to overnight home charging. I wouldn’t get an ev without that unless I had a very short commute.
mada447@reddit
I don’t have a garage or carport - open parking. Can you still charge an EV like that? Rain or shine?
snoo-boop@reddit
My apartment complex has shared chargers in guest parking. Which is the part that doesn't have a roof.
LionTigerWings@reddit
Yeah. Nothing wrong with that. In fact, even most DC fast chargers with way higher voltages and current are usually uncovered. My charger at my house is just installed on the side of my home exposed to the elements year round.
mada447@reddit
Interesting. Thanks!
the_lamou@reddit
Unless you live in the middle of nowhere and are thoroughly unimportant as a consumer, the infrastructure has been there for years now.
And no, charging doesn't take "half an hour at best." Like 15-20 minutes at worst with act car from the last year or two.
-crackling-@reddit
No its not. People who live in manor urban areas on the coasts shouldn’t spew this kind of crap from their ivory towers.
the_lamou@reddit
Sorry you live in a place with more cows than people. Meanwhile, I'm not remotely in an urban area (unless you count all the trees with hawk nests on my little forest property as high-rises) but I'm still 10 minutes away from many L2 and a handful of L3 chargers.
hewkii2@reddit
Charging infrastructure outside of California isn’t very good.
Yes it exists and yes you can charge at home, but it’s not dependable by any means.
t-poke@reddit
I live in the Midwest. In 2020, I drove my Model 3 to Washington DC and in 2021, I drove down to the Grand Canyon, up to Vegas, and back home through Denver, doing Pikes Peak and RMNP.
I never had charging problems. Not once. The infrastructure was there back then and it’s only gotten better.
hewkii2@reddit
Yes, I’m excluding teslas
t-poke@reddit
Moving the goalposts
Besides, most EVs have or will soon have access to the Supercharger network.
If I couldn’t make that same trip today in my EV6 (I’m 99% positive I could), I could definitely do it in a couple months once Kias gain SC access.
hewkii2@reddit
Go try and report back
the_lamou@reddit
I drove my CCS-charger EV from NY to Acadia to UMaine to Lake Champlain through northern Vermont and New Hampshire (stopping to get a "This Car Climbed Mt. Washington" sticker) and then back home, and didn't have a single issue finding charging.
I love when people who have zero experience with EVs decide that some BS they read on Fox News is more accurate than the actual experience of owners.
hewkii2@reddit
Wow, New York to Maine, such a trip
the_lamou@reddit
It was about 1,200 miles in total over 10 days, which statistically is about what the average person drives in a month and a half. Or roughly half the distance from NYC to LA.
It isn't. Just in North America. And even then, it isn't really since NACS is just CCS with a functionally worse but more convenient plug.
I'm really curious why you've bothered developing such strong opinions on something that you very obviously have minimal understanding of.
hewkii2@reddit
I don’t have strong opinions on this
t-poke@reddit
They always do this. They always make up some reason why EVs don’t work, and when you call them out, they move the goalposts and make up some other excuse.
“I tow a camper from the Florida Keys to Nunavut 4 times a year, I can’t do that with an EV!”
hewkii2@reddit
Wow, I don’t remember saying that
the_lamou@reddit
"I live in an apartment complex on top of a mountain in Wyoming that still doesn't have electricity, and I commute 1,500 miles every day to Chicago for work using only back roads that don't have a single charger on them. Plus it takes until the heat death of the universe to charge an EV from 10% to 15%, which simply won't do for me!"
the_lamou@reddit
I'm not in California, drove an EV for a year, and had absolutely no issues charging outside the home.
Sure, if you're out in the sticks in flyover country, you might have issues. Otherwise it's been fine for a while now.
dfjdkdofkfkfkfk@reddit
I'm not american.
the_lamou@reddit
Then why comment on an American company making changes to an American car that's (almost?) exclusively sold in America?
dfjdkdofkfkfkfk@reddit
The comment was more of a general one in nature. This is not the only ev being developed at the moment.
Snoo93079@reddit
I know you know this but most charging happens while you're sleeping and not at a station. Also it has a range of 300 miles.
ls7eveen@reddit
Lol like it's 2015 and not 2025
incubus512@reddit
What do you mean rush?? The Tesla model S has been on the market for 15 years.
dfjdkdofkfkfkfk@reddit
These last few years were a rush by governments and automakers about going all electric and then backtracking on those promises as we all seen here. I mean that "rush".

Because the charge time literally only matters on a road trip if you can charge at home. Heck even for a lot of folks you could charge up while shopping for your groceries.
Dabclipers@reddit
The profit on EV’s is a healthy chunk of change higher than for ICE vehicles because the manufacturers are intentionally overpricing them.
It’s why they’ve offered only token resistance to these idiotic EV regulations, they benefit from them as much as the politicians do.
Unfortunately for them, demand for EV’s is massively lower than they expected, the mindset of “if we build it, they will come” doesn’t work if most consumers don’t yet want your product. Now that the people who actually want EV’s have all bought one, the yearly growth numbers on EV sales have nearly flatlined.
mwhyes@reddit
Emissions regs
Educational_Age_1333@reddit
Makes sense they are selling trucks like mad, its best to cater to that market while they have other cuvs and SUVs.
Stillen22@reddit
Too many EV’s imo. Aside from a Tesla plad or a supercar I personally would never buy one
type-of-thing@reddit
You won’t have a choice in 10 years.
FastFeedback8558@reddit
Well there are still ton 2024 junk EV Blazers all over the lots. No Gas powered Blazer. Whoever is running GM should be fired and tared and feathered.
Holiday_Carrot436@reddit
Chevy you could have made something fun to compete with the Bronco and Wrangler. Why'd you do this to us.
Accomplished-Fig480@reddit
Thats what the colorado is for.
idontremembermyoldus@reddit
There was supposed to be a V8-powered Canyon-based BOF Jimmy, but the beancounters got to it before it could reach production.
Slideways@reddit
Where did you hear that? The only thing I’ve ever seen that pointed to a midsize BOF SUV was a Trailblazer 7 seen testing in the US.
idontremembermyoldus@reddit
Here. There was a big thread on this sub about it too.
danny_ish@reddit
52k blazers sold vs 100k broncos and 150k wranglers. But i wonder who had the least investment to develop
joeislandstranded@reddit
Jeep had the least investment
Same_Disaster117@reddit
"Can we just keep making basically the same truck for 20 years but every now and then we change up the headlights or something?"
_The_Room@reddit
The least a lot of stuff.
Revenge_of_Recyclops@reddit
The answer GM would probably give is they sell a BOF SUV with a V8 already: the Tahoe.
Drzhivago138@reddit
They "needed" a mid-size CUV to slot between the Traverse and the downsized Equinox, but it didn't have to be called Blazer.
Or at least, call it Trailblazer so it's the same size as the early 2000s model.
FledglingNonCon@reddit
Why? The Equinox is only has like 3-4 cubic feet less interior volume. Yeah it doesn't come in a V6 and can't tow much, but who exactly was buying a Blazer for those qualities? If you need more space and to tow, just move up to the Traverse.
This-City-7536@reddit
Then you would be driving a Traverse
SnootDoctor@reddit
Except then the Trailblazer that came out at the same time would have to be renamed. There can’t be TWO Trax?!
JMccovery@reddit
I feel that the CUV TrailBlazer should've been named Tracker.
SnootDoctor@reddit
Now that is a good idea!
Drzhivago138@reddit
So call the smaller model Blazer. It's sized closely to the ['90s S-10 model.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_S-10_Blazer#Second_generation_(1995–2005))
C-C-X-V-I@reddit
I would have loved that.
peakdecline@reddit
That segment is already over saturated. Total Wrangler and Bronco sales are down significantly since their peak sales. I sincerely doubt the Blazer turning into a BOF off-roader would result in sales success in the current market climate.
It would also be far more costly to develop and it would take up production line capacity with the Colorado/Canyon.
I'm also absolutely positive that those who say GM should do this are the ones who would ever buy one.
If GM wants to do an off-road SUV that would really shake up the market at this point it would need to slot down market of the Wrangler/Bronco or go up market and size and make something radically different in the large SUV class that lacks off-road options these days.
RelevantJackWhite@reddit
GM read this and immediately restarted the Hummer H1 production lines
Dangerous-Air2566@reddit
GMC Jimmy EV with retro styling could be coming.
Lilmumblecrapper@reddit
It still might be coming, however it won’t have a cool retro-name
arcticrobot@reddit
Thats not a Blazer. That’s Camaro CUV
Revenge_of_Recyclops@reddit
That actually would've been great. Dodge did an SRT Hellcat Durango. It would've been neat to see a Blazer with a V8 for a year or two.
Accomplished-Fig480@reddit
it's on an fwd platform, it would never have worked
halotechnology@reddit
4 door and doesn't have a V8 it's not a camro
mada447@reddit
You have a 4 cylinder camaro, I don’t think it’s a “camro” either.
ls7eveen@reddit
And the v8 one is 4000lbs which also isn't a camaro
AaronPossum@reddit
I mean, 1967 with the big block could be 3,600 lbs. 400 lbs in 60 years isn't crazy. The Camaro, is a Camaro.
nondescriptzombie@reddit
A late Thirdgen weighed 3600-3800 pounds, depending on options.
A late Fourthgen weighed around 3200-3400, depending.
So for a brand new Camaro to only weigh 3400-3600 is fucking STAGGERING. The Supercharger kit only adds another 200 pounds from there.
cilantno@reddit
The Miata doesn’t weight 2600lbs.

hell, the later 2nd gen F bodies were pretty well up there, 3800ish pounds.

Thank you! What I tell my wife all the time.
DodgerBlueRobert1@reddit
A modern V8 Camaro weighs as little as 3619 lbs. in LT1 trim with the 6-speed manual. You have to get the 2SS convertible with an automatic transmission to get near 4000 lbs. Even the ZL1 coupe is under 4000 lbs.
Most modern V8 Camaro's out there are gonna be around 3700 lbs.
ls7eveen@reddit
You can play with the numbers but 3900lbs is 4000lbs to make it even
DodgerBlueRobert1@reddit
You're saying I can play with the numbers, but you're the one saying 3900 lbs is 4000 lbs to make it even. Ironic? lol
Regardless, my point still stands. I brought facts to the discussion. Only the heaviest (and least popular specced) of V8 Camaro's are 4000 lbs or over (ZL1 convertible). Most V8 Camaro's out there are well under 4000 lbs. The SS trim is more or less 3700 lbs.
Look for yourself Source

JBoy9028@reddit
The first reviews of the Blazer called it the Camaro SUV. Because of its front end styling, and the interior reflecting the Camaro's design. Also the fact is handled slightly better than it's competition.
halotechnology@reddit
Front I don't get interior sure .
But yes bring down the down votes I love it !
arcticrobot@reddit
It doesnt have a frame and solid axles. So its definitely closer to Camaro than real Blazer :)
halotechnology@reddit
I honestly don't understand are guys referencing an old blazer meaning before the 2000s ?
cpufreak101@reddit
The Blazer was body on frame with a solid rear axle all the way up to the Trailblazer which got discontinued in '09 with the new (current) Blazer being a unibody CUV

They need an interior overhaul. It’s built like a late 1990s designer was told to make more sharp edges, including on the ac vent but you’re only given the plastic that feels the cheapest.

TunakTun633@reddit
Definitely not "interesting," but they're pretty solid to drive, above-average reliable, and victims of heavy depreciation. Awesome value on the used market.
corn_sugar_isotope@reddit
okay then..'cuz that seemed rather reactionary. all good. Do you really have a 300D, cuz I thought you may have been trolling me for the flair comment too.
AaronPossum@reddit
I am 100% messing with you yes. I do love the W123.
Drzhivago138@reddit
And I'm pretty sure OP was being facetious anyway. The most interesting thing one can say about the C1XX platform is that it has 3 different sizes. Generally you don't see that sort of thing outside of truck or van platforms anymore.
campbellsimpson@reddit
I have an Acadia 😂 (but yes)
cptpb9@reddit
These days actually much more common. VW has MQB, Toyota has TNGA, Honda has different size vehicles on the civic platform, Nissan rogue and pathfinder are the same platform, STLA architecture for Stellantis, and every Subaru is on the same platform as a few examples. They all realized it’s cheaper to have the same platform for everything basically. The caveat is that platform has a looser definition, so in front of the front wheels is where the majority of the engineering is shared (surprisingly, that’s like 60-70% of the engineering work for a car happens there) and then everything else varies by model.
corn_sugar_isotope@reddit
not your bro, and I did not say a fucking thing. You are the one that is shit talking, pal. Asked what there was on that platform because you apparently can't right click google search, so I did it for you, I would not touch that shit..jeez man..

Disagree. The Chevy Blazer V6 is a great ride. Definitely feels pretty similar to like a premium compact crossovers. Suspension is nice and the V6 rips and sounds great doing so. Now the 2.5l base and the 2.0T engines absolutely kill the car IMO. Would only buy a V6 version. I wouldn't call it very sporty but GM tunes suspensions to excellence.
Also the interior quality, luxury, tech, features, and materials are pretty nice. It feels solid. The car always felt a bit over priced though. Full optioned RS/Premier trims pass 50K making it a hard sell. But for 45K loaded I think they are a great car. Rather have it over base equipped X3, Q5, etc.
tblax44@reddit
The price was the major issue when we were car shopping and ultimately why we didn't get one. We would have had to drop like $40k+ on a Blazer to get AWD and adaptive cruise control that were standard on our $30k Subaru Outback.
aaayyyuuussshhh@reddit
yep exactly. Biggest downside of the car. It was probably priced high because it was built on a platform also meant for 50-70K buick/cadillacs too. It felt like you had to spend at least 40-45K to get a nicely equipped awd V6 model, not even a full loaded one. I remember our family bought a 2020 Santa Fe AWD loaded 2.4l for 37-38K OTD. More room inside than the blazer, and had every single option you could imagine. HUD, heated 1st and 2nd row, cooled seats, pano roof, 360 camera, rear sunshades, etc, etc. Aside from the weak engine (kinda slow but I thought it was adequate given I daily 400-500hp too) it was so nice and a blazer would have gotten me a stripped down model while having less space inside. The v6 engine is a gem IMO but it was priced too high msrp. You can often get great discounts but yeah it's a turn off to see such a high msrp when other midsize vehicles don't even touch 45K let alone 50K.

I drove one as a rental when I visited Dallas, TX last year. It was very forgettable and okay at everything.

SUVs are mostly soulless by design. But in general so are 99% of cars. Which is fine and normal imo
SimplyAvro@reddit
What's the 1 percent? Christine?
Snoo93079@reddit
I met Christine. She drives a Rav4
Revenge_of_Recyclops@reddit
This one seems logical, given how the CUV market is moving. It seems that customers are preferring midsized 2-rows (RAV4, CRV, Forester), a compact CUV (Seltos, Corolla Cross, Bronco Sport), or a 3-row (Highlander, Palisade, Explorer). The in-betweeners, like the Blazer and Edge, aren't being updated. With this news, plus this being the Edge's final year and the Cherokee already being gone, shows the market has little desire for a bigger 2-row SUV w/ no 3rd row option.
Spicywolff@reddit
Not gonna lie I had one as a rental, the RS and it was far from soulless. It really impressed my wife and I to the point that we were considering it if we had a kid.
It drove well, the V6 had plenty of power with the all-wheel-drive, very quiet and comfortable. Handled the Atlanta roads and traffic perfectly.
Colddeck64@reddit
Yeah, I’m with you. I really like the Blazer EV
I think it’s attractive looking, plenty of space. And I’m probably going to get one next

The IC Blazer looks like the rough draft for the gen 2 Trax, just like the Aztek looked like the rough draft for the Vibe.
benitopayde@reddit
What is dead may never die!
shatter321@reddit
This gen Blazer was always really weird to me. They already had the Equinox, did they really need another slightly more upscale midsized SUV?
Titan0917@reddit
The equinox is a compact crossover, the blazer is midsized, they’re going after different markets.
shatter321@reddit
Are they really going after different markets, though? They have almost identical cargo space, seat the same amount of people, and the Blazer is less than ten inches longer bumper to bumper. I don't think there's a big enough size difference there to justify the existence of the Blazer and it appears that the market feels the same way.
m0viestar@reddit
Yes they are going after different markets. You just explained the difference. It's slightly bigger, similar to every other manufacturers line up.
cubs223425@reddit
No, most manufacturers don't have the ridiculously bloated SUV lineup GM and Chevy have. Chevy has the Trax, Trailblazer, Equinox, Blazer, Traverse, Suburban, AND Tahoe. It's one thing to see Ford grow to a similar lineup size (6 of their own, to Chevy's 7), but Chevy is just a piece of the puzzle with GM. You then have Buick (nothing but SUVs), GMC (many Chevy SUVs, but slightly more off-roady), and Cadillac (a few ICE SUVs and a growing lineups of EV ones).
The size of Chevy's lineup has been one of the largest for years, and being just one of those 4 GM nameplates to carry their bogglingly massive lineup of SUVs.
m0viestar@reddit
Ford has ecosport, escape, edge, explorer, expedition and expedition max size.
Toyota has Corolla cross, RAV4, Highlander, grand Highlander, sequoia.
All targeting different buyers.
cubs223425@reddit
And none of those reach the bloat of Chevy, and none have as many I - house brands that are ALSO loaded with a bunch of similar SUVs.
Titan0917@reddit
Toyota has Lexus, Ford has Lincoln, VW has Audi. Different brands appeal to different buyers and help sell more vehicles.
cubs223425@reddit
Yeah, but GM has Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, AND Cadillac. It's not as bad as Stellantis (I think they're a bloated, mismanaged disaster of sub-brands), but I think Buick is very awkward in its position these days.
It already has GMC sharing the pseudo-premium market, and dropping their sedans means they're "GMC without the trucks," to some extent. You can certainly argue that Buick is meant to be more premium than GMC, but Cadillac's somewhat eroded brand value means its lower-tier stuff encroaches on Buick as well.
I just don't see significant value in having all 4. It's always been "Buick is for China," but GM has lost footing on that as well of late. Part of me really thinks Buick's redesign should have been split between Chevrolet (for the cheaper stuff) and Cadillac (mostly for a better visual design than what I think the XT lineup brought over the years).
Like, at least with VAG, they have distinct placements of things. VW is a very mainstream brand. Audi is a distinctly different offering with a cohesive design language in the premium/luxury markets. Porsche is a performance brand that's sprinkled in some mainstream models, but its brand image is still distinct and separate from Audi. Bugatti is off in the stratesphere of insanity. Even the new Scout brand is a clear offering of something that VAG doesn't do right now--SUVs that are in the off-road market, and they're doing it with a move to EVs and a new sales model.
GM though, they're tripping over themselves and too messy. 4 brands that blur into each other all the time, and I couldn't easily point you to a consistent design scheme and market purpose for any of GM's brand.
Titan0917@reddit
You may not see the value in it but their sales figures and profits do. I don’t see an issue either with offering people a variety of choices.
You left out all the over lap VAG has in other markets though, they have SEAT, Skoda, and VW making the same cars.
cubs223425@reddit
The "companies know what they're doing" trope is insanely tired. This is an article about an ICE model that isn't selling all that well. It's about a parent company that's stated it needs to fix the branding of Cadillac. GM's sales figures include a bunch of stuff that DOESN'T lead relative markets. It's an outright false claim that all of this is showing good value.
DodgerBlueRobert1@reddit
The Edge was discontinued last year.
Drzhivago138@reddit
The EcoSport is thankfully gone from the US, but you're not wrong.
Recoil42@reddit
Titan0917@reddit
Yes the Blazer competes in a space with the Edge, Murano, passport, Venza, etc. most manufacturers have a vehicle that lives in this space.
shatter321@reddit
The difference is the Edge, Murano, Passport, etc. all have significantly more cargo room than their smaller brother, while the Blazer only has ~1sqft more space than the Equinox. (With the exception of the Venza, which is also now discontinued. Curious.)
04limited@reddit
With how big the equinox has got there’s no point for the blazer anymore. Cars like the Murano, Venza, Edge made sense because the compact crossover was small.
Those cars had existed for a long time before the Blazer came about. And GM overpriced them thinking they could charge more because it was a Camaro suv.
Drzhivago138@reddit
Other way around: the Equinox was downsized to compact in 2018, which made room for the mid-size Blazer.
FledglingNonCon@reddit
The difference in interior volume is like 3-4 cubic feet. The functional difference is nearly zero. But yes, automakers are good at tricking people to pay a lot more for something that looks and feels bigger.

Scazitar@reddit
Makes sense honestly.
They don't sell anyways and I think GM is realizing it's hard to market two different cars with the same name. I think separating them is a smart move.
Like the EV Equinox and Equinox have very diffrent reputations, and it's probably hard to not have people associate one with the other in a negative way.

Why is it that car companies are so hell bent on getting rid of gas. I understand there’s legislation in America for electric cars but it’d be nice to still be able to buy a gas version of a certain model because what if you use it to drive very long distances you can’t stop every 200 miles and sit for thirty plus minutes while it charges.

anillop@reddit
Did you remember the blazers from the 90's? That's their jam.
04limited@reddit
They were too expensive for what they were. I remember when they first came out it was like $42k for an AWD LT and this was back in 2019. The RS/Premier nearly touched $50k at the time. You could get a Camaro LT1/1SS for less than a Blazer LT
nlpnt@reddit
And the Trax is the better-looking version of the design theme. It seems to be easier to style a smaller car than a bigger one, or at least harder to screw one up.

I don’t understand. GM spent millions developing the new Colorado/Canyon platform with the 2.7L turbo motor.
How hard would it be to make an SUV based on that??? It’s an excellent motor and the Colorado is a great midsized truck.

I actually liked this vehicle even if I didn't like the name choice. It's among my options to replace my Bronco Sport in a couple of years.
I was hoping for a second generation with a more boxy face-lift similar to the Traverse, maybe adding the Z71 package as well. This news certainly hurts that option.
mstaugler@reddit
I wonder if this is a move to free up capacity at the factory to build the Buick Electra E5 EV...

DTM-shift@reddit
Would think a Blazer hybrid makes more sense than an EV. Let the Equinox EV be the CUV city-car thing while the Blazer can do highway and towing duties with the hybrid setup.
RuinedGrave@reddit
GM didn’t do many hybrids though. Hybrids are Toyota’s specialty.
DTM-shift@reddit
Indeed, and those (early on, at least) were mostly 'mild' hybrids. Nothing stopping them from making more efficient combos, though, except the will and the investment. Toyota doesn't have a monopoly on hybrids, and anyone can do it.
What may be a factor is that the very large investment into the Ultium propulsion platform only makes sense with a broad adoption across the lineup. Doesn't make it the best option for the marketplace, however. Time will tell.
dontbeslo@reddit
They need to better differentiate their offerings. Traxx, Equinox, Blazer, Traverse, Tahoe, Suburban. Also, why not just create an EV Sub brand? Don’t make it confusing for consumers.
GroovinJaxx22L@reddit
To GMs credit, they offer plenty of ICE options in the CUV/SUV market. This is just a move to streamline operations and address a lackluster demand for ICE Blazer.
halotechnology@reddit
Supposed the equinox ev is doing well tho
delebojr@reddit
If you told me 10 years ago that it would be General Motors, of all automakers, being the one to actually be the one going through and replacing their IC cars with EVs while other automakers scaled back their plans and the Federal government went all anti-EV, I wouldn't believe you.
Now, if you told me that they were doing all this while being one of the few Fortune 500 companies keen on keeping their DEI initiatives (though, they seemed to have removed mention of it from their investor report because investors seem to be a bit anti-DEI right now), I would've probably thought you were crazy.
Slasher1738@reddit
I dunno, there has to be something coming to replace. That's a pretty big hole in the lineup
KingHauler@reddit
With the camaro gone, gm makes literally 2 cars worth any amount of interest.
The corvette is carrying chevrolet, the V is carrying Cadillac.
That's it. Everything else is generic, awful suvs and the worst pickup trucks on the market.
What happened to GM man, they used to be the GOAT.
N0Name117@reddit
GM decided making money by building cars consumers actually want is a better idea than building enthusiast vehicles for the internet voices who never buy them anyway. And it seems to be working out pretty well for them if the recent sales numbers are any indication.
If anything, I'd say the trucks and SUV's are carrying the company.
