I have been reading Viz for 30 years. Some of the classics like Sid and the FS are probably way past their best but agree that the drunken bakers, the generic oppressive boss/landlord/debt collector and Hen Cabin are brilliant and cutting. The occasional appearance of Billy the fish and Boys own rip off Jack and Silver are still good and frankly the Male online is as good a description of modern Britain since Brexit as any broadsheet and should be required reading in schools.

I can't believe it's still going. I discovered Viz when I was a paperboy, age 14 - 15. It just appeared at the newsagents one morning. I have very fond memories of finishing my Saturday route and meeting my best mate (also a paperboy) to roll around on the ground in hysterics at 7:30am. Page for page, we couldn't believe how funny it was. We had a copy each and we were sitting on a park bench with styrofoam cups of coffee. I'll never forget my mate not being able to breath when he got to the Terry Fuckwit page. He almost died. I'm 50 now, and I still pick up a copy if I see it.

I (recently 57) still subscribe to it and am suspected to have the largest collection of Viz stuff anywhere. As far as I know I am only missing two issue variants from the UK run and an unknown but small number of the Australian ones. If anyone has a Lady Diana Full English Breakfast Plate of Hope then money is no object. I am desperate for it to complete my 'Tatalogue' collection. Chris Donald refers to me as his biggest fan and the unofficial Viz archivist. Simon Donald refers to me as Viz superfan and potential danger/mental. I am happy with both. What's your moniker on Letterbocks?

Bad parenting but my now 13-year old son started reading one of my old annuals a couple of years ago and really loved it, so we ended up getting him a sub. I buy it for my 78 year old Dad, and when he's done with it I have a read, along with my 12 year old daughter. Me and my brother started reading it at that age in the late 80's. I think it 'teaches' (using the term lightly) good humour and good old British piss taking. It makes fun of just about all sections of society and is harmless fun. The highlight for me personally is Rodgers Profanasourus -sorry about the spelling, I teach A levels and am therefore reasonably illiterate.

Drunken Bakers at one point was considered high art. Well, it still is, just talked about less. The crushing realism is a whole feeling. Still love Viz - been reading off and on for 20+ years. I should pick it up again soon. It's often frowned on and misunderstood as being lowbrow when it's really the opposite if anything. A lot of very scathing satire and nihilistic worldviews.

I buy it once a year or so, and I'm always surprised by how good it still is. When Viz was at its peak, a few competitors sprung up (I can't even remember any of their names), and they were appalling. It goes to show that writing this stuff is far from easy. My personal favourite is Drunken Bakers. I bought the novel Drunken Baker by Barney Farmer, which is as bleak and nihilistic as the strip. It really is a work of genius. Barney also sent me a piece of loo paper, which I would have treasured, but I found other uses for it.

I used get the same bus back from school in the 80s. Used to always be waiting around in an old draughty 60s bus station. One of those ones that had a shitty cafe in it and a voluminous newsagent. One guy on my bus used to sit and read viz and laugh like a drain. So I bought it. And yeah it was fucking funny. This was 1987 or so. Still got a fair wad of them somewhere. I still buy the occasional copy, but the gems aren’t as frequent, sadly. You might say it’s not as funny as it used to be. From the mid-90s to the mid-00s, I never missed an issue. And some of the old annuals are great. The Porky Chopper is probably the best — the early 90s was the zenith of Viz. Sid the Sexist, Roger Mellie and the Fat Slags were all wonderful at that time, and I always loved Nobby’s Piles and Mrs Brady. Later on, I’d buy it just for the Farmer Healey stuff, which is always excellent. And so very bleak.

Not for about 30 years. Used to love it and I probably still would. I think I just stopped buying it and it became a habit. Loved Ravy Davy Gravy. I've just had a chuckle to myself about one story. Davy's at home, which he's set on fire, and the fire brigade are trying to get in: Fireman: Is anyone in the house? Davy: Davy's in the house!! Hmm, might not translate to those who don't know rave culture :-) It's just unlocked a memory I haven't thought about in decades. There was a lad at college who was the spitting image of Mr Logic. Long term subscriber - some of the ‘newer’ strips are hilarious. As others have mentioned, Male Online is just a perfect tonic for all the hatred in the press. Also love Foodie Bollocks. My favourite letter in recent years:- “I DON’T waste money on expensive dog poo scooper bags, I just use old crisp packets. I turn them inside out before placing my hand inside and grasping the dog dirt, then turn the bag the right way round, twist the top, take it home and dispose of it in the bin. This little ruse has saved me a fortune over the years, even though I haven’t got a dog. I was a big fan in the early days \[no, I'm not one of the 50,000 people who claims to own a first ever volume #1, which actually sold about 250 copies\] but from the early 80s. I haven't actually bought one since about 1984. Buster Gonad, Roger Mellie, et al. No idea which characters they have these days.

I used to read Viz well into my 30’s. It’s just a fairly amusing silly mag to relax with. Top Tips was always a good one. Not all the strips were funny but enough of it was amusing enough to warrant a buy. But just got out of the habit after a while. Might consider a subscription again.

I read it online free through BorrowBox. Log in with your library number and PIN. I used to buy it when it was funny. Actually, there are still some good bits: The Daily Mail, Mrs Brady, etc. with occasional appearances from old favourites.

Over lockdown, I missed one and tweeted them, they got in touch and not only sent me a copy of the one I missed, but the next one too, and a little Finbar Saunders drawing where he's making fun of my name. I love viz, even if its not as funny as it used to be.

I get the annual and fiends bought me a subscription one year. Personally I liked Dr Miriam Stoppard’s advice column. Especially when for a while her replies were translated into German and then translated back into English. Also when the personal problems were mostly about car problems despite the car being only a tiny bit of the main personal problem.

I'm a soon-to-be 40 year old woman, and I get it delivered every month, and treat myself to the annual every Christmas. I started reading it in the early-mid 90s, as my uncle would buy it and (a bit disturbingly for an 8 year old), I got a lot of the jokes and context. I really miss The Modern Parents - they've not been in it for years but are still one of my favourites. The Male Online, Eight Ace, and Foodie Bollocks are some of my favourites at the moment (plus classics like Spoiled Bastard and the Fat Slags). Mrs B from Essex gets referenced a lot in this house.

Hey OP. I get the annual every year for Christmas. Got a signed copy this year. I live in Newcastle about 100 yards from where the first copy of the mag was sold. Drunken Bakers is my favourite by a wide margin. I have it on digital subscription every month, I used to get the paper edition until a year or so ago. I started reading it while I went to visit my aunt in Newcastle soon after it started publication and bought it in a pub .... The rest is history as they say. My daughter always buys me the Viz annual for my birthday each year, will be 70 this year and still not giving it up, ... Of course it's not as funny as it used to be!

I get the annual occasionally, I was a regular reader of the comic 10-20 years ago. I still like it but it does get repetetive so I eased off a bit. The Drunken Bakers (and those of a similar style) I like the dark humour there. Major Misunderstanding. Spoilt Bastard. Christ on a Bike. I've had a subscription for the last 10-12 years. I used to get it when I was younger too. My dad was at Newcastle University when it first started and had bought it and left it lying around for my entire childhood, so it's just something I adore. I like the letterbocks, advice section and semi-relevant adverts, but any and all of the comics always make me smile.
