Do I get the 4080 Super or 5080?

The answer may sound obvious, but 5080s are out of stock and I don't know for how long. I have the rest of my PC build, just waiting for a GPU, and I have been waiting for two months. I wasn't expecting the 50 series to go out of stock in 10 minutes. So do I wait it out longer, or do I buy a 4080 super? I heard the difference isn't too grand, and the 4080 card I found is only $1099, which is about the original 5080 price. If I do wait it out, is there any predictions of when the 50 series will return?
ImportantApple4730@reddit
Zotac 5080 cost 1050e and 4080 super cost 1100 which one should I take?
Equivalent-Beat639@reddit
Be patient, the 5080 will stop being out of stock in 1 or 2 months, I hope.
TheSuppishOne@reddit
We’re pushing 3 months now… 😅😔
p4tx@reddit
I also have a configured build and I was waiting the 5080 to release for the 4080S to go down in price, but instead what I got was 5080 out of stock and a the 4080S rising in price.
This world stopped making sense to me.
lazypeon19@reddit
Scalpers massively bought the 5080s so they're out of stock.
People who didn't have a 40xx gpu and were disappointed in the 5080s availability or performance went to buy the 4080 instead. The thing is that nvidia stopped production for the 4080 a while ago. So 4080 demand goes up and supply goes down >>> price goes up.
Fenixri3es@reddit
Like WAY up, been looking for a 4080 or 4080s. How does $1400 sound for a $1000 msrp card. Not only that you probably have to get it shipped, maybe even from overseas. That $1400 is now $1600 plus. For a 1000 card. It's a bad time to be looking high end gpu.
Of you should shop around, and no doubt you can maybe find them cheaper. Take a chance on used...
Not saying it's impossible but...good luck!
Maleficent_Craft_944@reddit
1600-1700 as the resell price now 💔
MyStationIsAbandoned@reddit
this was my plan too. so i guess it was a blessing that my old PC died on me, prompting me to go ahead and build a PC with a 4080 Super.
I have it now with no regrets (except my 27in 4k monitor. i regret that). I think I'll eventually upgrade to a 6090 because it's a funny number
Steamed_Memes24@reddit
I mean that does make sense though. 4000 series is no longer being produced. The 5000 series being sold out only increased the demand of the 4000 series as people opted for those instead.
Bambi-cow@reddit
Lmao they have you convinced. They are artificially sold out.
Rocket-Pilot@reddit
Who is "they"?
It's well known Nvidia controls their production numbers towards the end of a generation carefully, as to not have a ton of old stock on the market they need to discount to move, especially on the xx70 and xx80 cards. It's quite common for cards to go out of stock completely for a month or two before the replacement arrives.
There's no conspiracy, Nvidia just doesn't carry over thousands of units of old stock between generations like AMD does, and fittingly doesn't need to discount old cards like AMD does.
Bambi-cow@reddit
You completely misunderstood my comment and frankly, I'm not interested in your generally rude demeanor in calling me a conspiracy theorist for no reason. Goodbye

I'm asking you, who is "they"?
What part of your comment did I misinterpret?
Bambi-cow@reddit
You just shot yourself in the foot. Look at my comments. All I do is dispute conspiracy theories. Not support them. Thanks for winning my argument.

this thread is literally about OP considering to buy a 4080S.
But no <<>> are behind it
AllThingsEvil@reddit
It's been this way since the 20x Nvidia cards. It shouldn't really come as a surprise anymore that the new gen cards will constantly be out of stock and sold at 2-3x the prices they're worth.
GMTobiUraMawashi@reddit
Before the 5080 released, I asked an international store if they were going to lower the price of the 4080 and he just mentioned that “no, because the 5080’s price will already be higher” lol
Square-Ganache8169@reddit
I was going for an all white build, got everything besides for the gpu, the 50 series came out and now im sitting here looking at an overseas white 4080s for $1600. I am now opting for Black ram and black gpu to make it look somewhat okay, even the black one is 1200 still overseas and a zotac black edition i found is 1400 in the u.s. no idea what to do now.
ICantFindAUsername14@reddit
I've gotten a 4080 super today. My best advice would be getting the one that has a better cost. Don't spend $1600 on a 4080S. That's barely acceptable for a 5080. Get a 4080S only if you can find it for a decent price. They're both great cards 👍🏼
pbizz@reddit
I really wanted to snag a 5080 but having seen the reviews I'm going to hold on to my 3080 10gb until they release a 5080 super I think
_combustion@reddit
3080 10gb gang here, I also don't see enough gains on the 5080 to merit the upgrade.
And my net salary would have to double for me to rationalize the cost of a 5090.
The_soulprophet@reddit
3070 8gb here. Wish I would have held out for the 3080, but the 3070 is still doing it.
LGWalkway@reddit
I’ve got a 3070 and I’m considering the 5070. Although I think it works just fine for what I play.
The_soulprophet@reddit
I have one system with the 3070 and the other has a 4070S. I think the 5070 should be a decent upgrade….eager to see the reviews.
LGWalkway@reddit
For the price it’s not that bad. Could also try to sell my 3070 for $200-300 as well.
The_soulprophet@reddit
I was thinking the same. It’s still a potent card, but I think it might be the right time to sell and buy new.
Reasonable-Maximum18@reddit
I got a 4080 super for my new build about 2 weeks ago, I figured it would be impossible to get a 5080 so I just went for it, and given there's not much of a power percent increase unless you overclock the 5080, it isn't a bad idea to go for a 4080, it's a beast of a card and handles everything, ultra setting with ray tracing, even handles 4K in games at about 80-100FPS if you look at benchmarks online, I play at 1440p
ultraboomkin@reddit
Stock seems decent for 5080. I’m getting multiple stock notifications a day. Out of curiosity I watched the stock on one site yesterday once it went in stock, and it took about 15 mins to go out of stock. So just get a stock checker app and you’ll be able to get one.
blockboy9942@reddit
Can you recommend a stock checker app and what website you saw them go into stock?
WantedKi1ler@reddit
If you’re just ready to play. Buy a 7900xtx. It’s better than the super and for cheaper. But if you really want Nvidia, I’d just buy a super and not wait for stock
Blasian_TJ@reddit
It’s obvious the 5080 gives you newer tech and a better chance at MSRP. And if you’re looking for “Super” tier performance, they’ll inevitably release the 5080S (hopefully being a bridge between 5080 and 5090).
Hellrisen@reddit
From what I understand they stopped production on the 4000 series, so price on those will only go up.
AllThingsEvil@reddit
Builders like dell were actually having sales to clear out their stock. So you just have to keep an eye out for stuff like that. Maybe that only goes for pre builts and not just individual parts.
shortyg83@reddit
The answer is obvious, a 5080. They have crazy overclocking ability and are the same price.
icantchoosewisely@reddit
Depends on where you are and if they are in stock... Where I live, for the short while they were in stock, 4080 Super was around 500 euro cheaper than 5080 (I'm talking store prices not scalpers, if we are talking scalpers those raised the price of 5080 with around 500-1000 euro). Now nothing is in stock :)
bigfluffyyams@reddit
I think he gets that, he’s getting impatient though, like most people that waited for this “launch”.
Lucky-Tell4193@reddit
Yeah I have a 4080super and a 7900xtx and paid below msrp for both and I got a 4080 in July in hopes of getting a 5090 but I don’t think it’s gonna to be any time soon
Lucky-Tell4193@reddit
And they stopped making the 4080 so it sucks to be buying a hi end video card right now but I think you should wait for now because everything is going crazy
2catchApredditor@reddit
5080 Is generally less expensive, more efficient and slightly more performance than a 4080 S. The 5080 is relatively easy to get unlike the 5090. Just do a 5080.
Miguelb234@reddit
If you can get a 4090 for around 1400$ DO IT
lazypeon19@reddit
People are even buying the 4080S for 1400. Who would sell the 4090 for that when it's double the value of a 4080S?
CitizenClutch@reddit
What do you mean double the value? Being twice as expensive and 20-30% better performance doesn’t make it twice as valuable in my book.
lazypeon19@reddit
That's what I meant.
Miguelb234@reddit
In my area I’ve seen a few 4090s for around 1500$. I’ll be selling one soon for around that so just look around
tilted0ne@reddit
Honestly I'd wait for the 5080. But the wait might be quite a while. Stock is going to temporarily get worse due to factory production being halted due to Lunar new year. I think the difference will get larger as time goes on and I wouldn't want to miss out on MFG in the long term, especially if you plan to have it for 3-5 years.
EastvsWest@reddit
If you can wait, then 5080 as it's good at around $1000 and overclocks well to perform close to a 4090. Once Chinese new years ends and production resumes. Things should flow again.
WombatCuboid@reddit
I've recently built a pc for my nephew and tried to grab a 5080 at launch - it failed.
The 4080's and 4080 Super's are really expensive and hardly worth the money right now, especially if you know you could get a 5080 for the same price in a couple of months.
So we went for the most-bang-for-back option available: a 4070 Ti Super. Those are readily available, affordable and they come close in 4080 Super performance, for hundreds of euros less.
Once the market relaxes a bit, he can resell if he wants to (though I doubt he will, he's mostly playing Helldivers 2 at 60Hz, which already runs fine on Ultra).
FlounderMysterious10@reddit
Same situation went with 4080s, will upgrade for 60s
no_va_det_mye@reddit
Considering the reports of 5000 series instability, lack of availability, and overpricing, I would go with 4080 super.
htraos@reddit
Where are those reports on instability?

" I wasn't expecting the 50 series to go out of stock in 10 minutes."
Have you not been around at the 40 series launch? Or did you just not remember it? It was similar to this sadly... so it was kinda expected. :(
I also think that when 50 series are back in stocl scalpers are just gonna buy them up again for months to come. :(
But i also was waiting for the 50 series to release, but it only made me choose a less beefy AMD card... :D
asamiz@reddit
I'm basically the same as you, except that the 4080 Super costs around $1,400 in the country I live in.
Active-Quarter-4197@reddit
A little under a 15 percent difference at 4k + mfg and better oc capability.
just depends on if u are willing to wait or not
