The same reason every dentist has to have a fish tank or a screen with a fish tank on it.

Somebody who works there likes lions. I suspect that's it

When I was about to go into theatre and being sedated, my last memory was of seeing some tape around the light fitting above me, and someone had written “Costa Del Frimley” (the hospital was Frimley Park in Surrey) on it. It made me smile and I drifted off into one hell of a sunset that day!

What on Earth were you going to see? I've saw some terrible movies and I've often gone after self medicating, but sounds like you overdone it that day? Me and my partner went to see a show in Swansea Grand Theatre a few months back and I'd bought 3 and 1/2 grammes of good Heroin the day before so I knew how much I could get away with smoking before it become noticeable, but.... The night before I took 4 300ml Pregabalin tablets (that ***really*** affect the intensity of the gear) She had to keep waking me by kicking my foot, stepping on it, nudging me in the ribs, etc. She still goes on about it every time we attempt to plan anything?

Used to work with a lady who loved Elephants, she had them all over her desk at work. We’d buy her Elephant gifts for her birthday and in the secret Santa. It was cute

Someone once mentioned a lion and every secret Santa gift has been lion related since I suspect. That person may not even be hugely fond of lions but that's now their identity. It's a strange phenomenon I don't know if it's just the NHS or other large companies. Our admin lady once mentioned she thought alpacas were cute. Every time someone saw anything alpaca related they got it for her as "we know you like alpacas" her desk is full of alpaca memorabilia. She's really not that bothered by alpacas.

This sort of thing is usually started by a grandma or an aunt not knowing what to get a teenage relative. The teenager probably said "aww" when a owl/cat/penguin/other-cute-animal was on tv in their presence and without realising it, they're now an owl/cat/penguin/other-cute-animal person for the next 20 years

As a kid my dentist used to have posters on the ceiling for kids to look at while they are being worked on. I guess if you are working with kids getting them to keep their heads still is a bit of a battle so every little helps.

karma3001@reddit

so here's the deal. Lions are all about that power, courage, and strength, right? So they probably throw 'em up in the waiting rooms to give people that quiet reminder—like, “Yo, stay strong, you got this.” Hospitals are stressful as hell, so having a lion stare you down might be their way of boosting your confidence while you're sitting there nervously waiting. It's kinda like, “Don’t worry, you're tough like this.” Might just be for the vibes too, but it’s definitely not random.

Part of a good distraction technique if you don't like needles. One nurse I went to had a giant map of the world on her wall - when I said I didn't like needles, she asked me to stare at Egypt and try to spell giraffe backwards. I was so baffled with trying to do the second instruction that I genuinely didn't feel the jab!

Apart from someone who works there liking lions, it could be pictures painted by someone who works there, or pictures they took and printed. When I was young my doctors surgery waiting area would be covered in framed drawings and paintings, all done by local artists and they had little cards on them with the artists name and a price, basically they were allowing local artists to display and sell their work.
