Is a road trip around Wales comparable in beauty to North Scotland or South Ireland?

We're from London - done a few weekend trip to Ireland and love the place. We were looking at doing a road trip around he South in the summer as a cheapish holiday, however the ferry is quite expensive, and it's about the same to fly and rent a car. North Scotland also looks beautiful, however either we fly and rent a car for the same expense, or we have to waste 2 days for driving up and back.
How would a road trip around Wales compare in terms of beauty? I found the attached which looks very nice. Just want some nice scenery, small villages to stop in, a few basic landmarks to visit, nothing overly fancy. Thanks
