Nooo. . . Lot's of great memories with my Greatest Generation grandparents watching the bubbles. I used to listen to my grandma talk about how all the actors would date, marry, and divorce each other but they had to maintain their wholesome image. Lawrence Welk is definitely Gen X.

My dad called him Lawrence Blech. My maternal grandparents were big fans. Coincidentally, on a plane ride from Des Moines to Cedar Rapids to see said grandparents, Lawrence and the entire family were passengers. Guy and Ralna sat across the aisle from us. Once we were in the air, Mr. Welk got up and took the time to talk to any fans. My grandmother was so jealous. 😆

My grandparents lived in a small town in the Texas panhandle. We'd have to visit during holidays for a week or more at a time. We had two entertainment options: 1. Go outside and watch tumbleweeds roll and bounce their way down depressingly empty and dusty streets. 2. Go inside and watch grandpa cycle through The Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune, Hee Haw, The Lawrence Welk Show and Mutual of Omaha Wild Kingdom. Then everyone went to bed. I had to sleep on the couch in the living room. It was awful. There was a grandfather clock in the room and they went to bed at 10pm. I'd lay there and listen to "tick...tock...tick....tock" for hours. It was mind numbingly boring!

I learned that Lawrence Welk was actually born in America, but in a part of North Dakota called Strasburg that only spoke German, and he didn't learn English until later in life, which is why he spoke like he did.
