CMMG 22lr conversion bolt is stuck--how best to unstick?

Undoubtedly a lot of dirty 22 on a heavy day of shooting has it gummed up. The bolt action will move but the artificial 223 cartridge that is part of the bolt is stuck in the barrel and will not move if that makes sense. Before I start hammering away, what would be the best liquid to spray in it to remove? Then I presume a wood dowel down the barrel and a hammer?

I sent the entire upper to CMMG and they returned it fixed...From now on I keep the dang thing well lubed!

Nothing worked for me--I had to send it back to CMMG (the whole upper!) and they got it out just fine. Lesson: Keep it wet with oil while shooting

Pull back on the charging handle woth the upper off. Then use a cleaning rod to tap it back with the spring compressed, you'll be tapping against the bolt face for the 22 bolt but use a shim or something between the two and you should be good. A few light taps will release mine.

Use a foaming bore cleaner and let it sit for 30-45 minutes to soak into and soften the fouling.

Read your post wrong. Thought the whole carrier was stuck. If it's JUST the artificial round stuck in the chamber, you can use a try using a dowel rod or you can just use a standard AR cleaning kit rod. I'm not sure how much real estate you'll actually get on that though since the fake AR round essentially forms the chamber and may actually not overlap the bore of the rifle. Genuinely can't say I've ever checked. You may have to get it out from the upper with pliers or something. Throw a pic up on Imgur and share the link here if you don't easily get it with a push rod.

Yeah I tried pulling on the back of the bolt at the range but decided to wait till I got home. I think a rod will go right through. It was shooting and cycling right up until I noticed it was stuck (going to swap back to 5.56 bolt) Would spraying carb cleaner in there help? Something else?

A penetrating oil like Kroil might make a difference, or really most penetrating oils as long as they're gun safe and won't damage or dry out your components. If you stop at your LGS, they should only stock stuff that's safe for guns. I don't know what the back of the faux 5.56 looks like. If it has a lip, maybe you can go back to the 5.56 bcg and grab it with the extractor like you mentioned. Or maybe you can pull off the upper and grab it with a pair of needle nose pliers. Worst case scenario is you remove your hand guard and barrel and you'll have easy access to the chamber. Wouldnt recommend doing this unless you have a vice and a barrel nut wrench though. If you have a local gunsmith that would be an easy job for them if you don't get it first.

*I am not a trained gunsmith* but I'd give mortaring a try if that's something you're able to do. It's not something you should usually do, but I just had to do this last week and it worked like a charm and I didn't need to take my gun apart (still had a 5.56 round in the chamber) Could use something like a Kroil penetrating oil, if you want to go that route.
