Stay Away from Hurley/JoyRide Bikes

Another one bites the dust...I just got off the phone with one of my contacts (well, former now) at Joyride (they make Hurley bikes) and they are parting out the business. DO NOT buy a Hurley bike, even though they are supposed to be dealing with warranties etc going froward, they basically are not. Too bad, they had some fun and economical bikes that we sold well and now I'm just waiting for clients that have issues and working on my explanation...

Darn, I thought something was fishy. My controller stopped working on my Big Swell after 1 month of use and I've been ghosted trying to get a new one from them! No response for 2 months. Weird because right when I got it, I had a battery issue my and it was resolved super fast through the warranty dep.
Such a bummer. If anyone has any suggestions for controller repair on a Big Swell-- Let me know! I found the model and everything but can't locate one that works.

The struggle is real. DM me, I might be able to help.

Just messaged you. Still no response from JoyRide bikes...

You won't get a response, they were all let go. I have been in contact with a consultant and a factory in China for parts to help my customers. I'll try to remember and shoot them a message about your bike.

Hi, I know this is an old post, but do you have any advice about getting a replacement key for the battery on my Hurley ebike, please? TIA 😊

I purchased my Big Swell from JoyRide 3 years ago. Controller went down as a CODE30 and JoyRide went out of business. Directed to hurley customer service which was an absolute farce. They are excruciatingly horrible to even get a conversation about a warranty claim - now to the point they have absolutely ignored me for over a year.
I would hate to lose out on this ebike, and I really want to fix it. Is anyone familiar with replacing the controller/fixing CODE30 on one of these? Display is Digitech Riding Evolved L182

I purchased a Big Swell (by Hurley / Joy Ride) on Woot several months ago. It was working pretty well for a few months, but recently the power (and LCD monitor) has been shutting down suddenly while I'm riding. When I press the power button on the LCD monitor to turn it back on, it doesn't work. Then if I flip the power switch on the battery off, and then back on, and then press the power button on the LCD monitor, then it works again, but only for short period of time, when it shuts off again. This happens regardless whether the battery is fully charged.
Has anyone encountered this particular issue/scenario, and have any insight into what may need to be repaired/replaced? I understand I can't expect any help from the manufacturer or seller, but does anyone know if this is something that could possibly be repaired (and where)? I'm located in the Queens/NYC area.
Thx

First, check all connections. Not just the visible ones up front, but along the frame to the motor and underneath by the bottom bracket. Don't just look, disconnect snd reconnect each one you can find.
When I assemble ebikes, I put dialectic greese on all connections as well. Sounds like an electrical issue, but could be the main brain or even a bad monitor.
Another ebike company I sell, which is still in business, is known for soldering issues. On a $3500 bike, I had to resolder the connections to the battery bc something very similar was happening. Bad connection to the battery. Would work fine, then go out suddenly, traced it back to that.

Thanks so much for all your help. I disconnected and reconnected all of the connections.... to no avail. I ended up bringing the bike to a technician in a local shop. He looked everything over, checked all the connections, and concluded that there must be an issue with the controller (since the monitor works when it's powered up, the battery powers up when it's restarted, and the motor runs when the power is on.)
Unfortunately, this bike uniquely has the controller built into the battery rail, so it doesn't seem like it could be replaced easily by a generic controller.
Would anyone know how I could possibly source a replacement controller for this bike, or whether you might have any recommendations as to how best to resolve this issue?
Thanks again.

Did you ever find a solution to this problem? Mine is doing the exact same thing. This really sucks!

Commenting here in case the bike gods shine down on us with a solution. Mine is doing the same thing.

I just bought a Joyride 48v 1500w fat tire to replace my stolen Hurley Alley Oop. at least it was only 700$. No support but hopefully it lasts like my Hurley 1 year 770 miles before it was stolen. It was of good quality for a cheap bike I bought on Woot for 500$! The company selling the bikes now is Bestour cheapest 48v 1500w 20.8 Ah battery I will find out July 16 if it was a mistake or not.

How's this bike holding up? Any issues? How fast can it go? Thanks
Normansandsphoto2112@reddit
It goes 30 mph on a flat surface. It rolls really well on my trail downhill I can just coast forever. Not sure if it's anything to do with the battery placement. I put a suspension seat on it. At like 24 mph or so the sprocket can't keep up. I like to peddle so I upgraded the front sprocket to a 52 and a longer chain now I can go 33 mph plus with the help of peddling. It has no problem with steep hills and the battery with pedal assist. I went 78 miles on a slow ride.

Awesome, thanks for the response. I just ordered one!

I hope you have a good experience! Mine has been my favorite ebike it's my 5th. I never wanted a Fat tire bike but I will never go back! It rides like a dream!
Normansandsphoto2112@reddit
724 miles on it so far

What a bunch of crap. I've been waiting for a response from the warranty dept for over 3 months for the Hurley Big Swell. Guess this bike's a goner unless someone knows how to deal with error code 21.
Thanks!
StructureSea4159@reddit
I have error code 21, what is/was the issue?
stopevil@reddit
How do I order a new headlight for the bike?Â

You'll have to find something compatible. I haven't spoken with anyone involved with Joyride or Hurley in a year. Sorry. Easiest would be to find a separate battery powered one.
