TriCare hasn’t paid providers since 12/31

TriCare (the healthcare that covers military personnel, veterans, and their families, has not paid their providers since 12/31. Providers are going to be forced to drop these individuals from their practices meaning service members, veterans, and their families will no longer have access to critical healthcare.

I am a Mental Health Provider in the Midwest and both myself and all the providers in the office have not been paid since January 1st. We have spent countless hours on the phone trying to resolve the issue, but we keep being told different things from Tricare. As of 1 April we have to inform our clients to move to self pay and if Tricare does finally get it straight we can work it out then, but for now three months of no payments is hard on any private practice.

Midwest therapist here, too. I began discharging Tricare clients last week after many sleepless nights debating it. I am a military veteran and feel I am turning my back on family. I did get word back from Tricare and they told me to "be patient". Well, my patience has likely cost me my practice as I've waited too long, hoping for the best and essentially working for free. I start driving for Uber tomorrow while I (hopefully) get new patients with insurance that pays providers. Not sure I'll ever take Tricare again. I'm disgusted.

Here’s a letter discussing how bad things were on Jan 31 - call center wait times were so long that SOLDIERS - professional hurry-up-and-waiters - trying to get their HEALTH COVERED, hung up in frustration?
ProudSkill5059@reddit
Our practice has not been reimbursed by TriCare all year. I am no longer accepting new clients with Tricare, and neither is one of the practice owners here, we were the only two at this practice that did in the first place due to their intensely low rates of reimbursement.

Tricare user here and a large family- no issues! Sounds like a specific claim needs to be ran again in the system. Zero issues here.

It’s been a tough few months for healthcare providers, especially in states affected by the recent Tricare east to west region change. Many smaller offices haven’t received payment for services provided in 2025, and experienced delayed payment of claims from October to December 2024. Tricare has mentioned that these delays are due to the region transition-not the way claims were submitted-but that doesn’t make it any easier for providers or the families who depend on them.
Despite assurances that claims will eventually be paid, the timeline keeps changing—first 2 weeks, then one month, then two, now three or more. Without timely payments, many offices are struggling to stay afloat. Some providers have had to take out loans or work without pay, and sadly, some are even considering closing their doors.
While the company I work for hasn’t had to discharge any Tricare patients yet, I know many offices have, even those with urgent medical needs. It’s a difficult situation for both patients and providers.
I’m glad to hear that your family haven’t been impacted, but Tricare agents and management have informed me many times that the delays are impacting hundreds of thousands of people in multiple states. I really hope they can resolve this quickly so that other families can get the care they need without any more disruption

I mean are you on East or West? There's even a whole contact people because we're aware it's wrecked on the triwest page so...

Yeah, I’ve been effected by this, they haven’t paid the therapy office i see at all in 2025, they had to stop seeing all tricare patients until they get payment. It’s a big organization in a big military town. I imagine alot of people are affected.

Was just told by my provider that this is the last time they can see me, I'm being dropped due to Triwest don't paying.

I am a partner in a mental health group and can tell you that we have not received reimbursement for any visit since January one. We are going to make a decision on February 15. Whether to continue accepting TRICARE. Every mental health provider I know in the San Antonio area is in the same boat. It’s not uncommon for insurance companies to delay payment so providers don’t freak out when they aren’t paid immediately. But after a month and a half. Most providers are pretty fed up with not being reimbursed. Furthermore, TRICARE West transition with fraud with misinformation or no information at all. We as providers were never given contracts or payment schedules, so we’re just kind of hanging out there. If if we don’t get paid this month, this will be the end of our accepting TRICARE.

Some individuals and families were switched from Tricare East to West on 12/31 and may not realize their payment needs to change (as stated on the Tricare website).
Sudden-Apartment4874@reddit (OP)
Understood. But providers are refusing new TriCare patients in the meantime and payments aren’t going through for rendered services
turquoisegypsy@reddit
That’s odd. Haven’t experienced an issue at all with our new providers this month. How widespread is the issue? Source?
GreyNeighbor@reddit
"source" is yet another new account that is spamming the sub with FUD
Sudden-Apartment4874@reddit (OP)
The source is from multiple TriCare providers as well as military families. I would link to the information but it’s a private FB page with quite a lot of personal information and I’m not comfortable even blacking out names. It’s a widespread issue though and available on any military family community page

Looks like they’re talking about in here. Not sure if the topic is prepper related but it seems like TricareWest is aware of the administrative issues and offering options.

Check out Tricare’s facebook page I linked below. They recently turned off all comments on their posts because it’s so bad. You can still read the comments …. Some of these people have high risk pregnancies or need chemo treatments, it’s a shame. https://www.facebook.com/share/15EMBytKcY/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Yeah. My veteran family member assured me that it didn’t matter who was president and there was nothing to worry about.
Well, he better start worrying.
70ss454@reddit
Who exactly was president when this happened 12/31?

Jill Biden

Tricare patient x 30+ years and a healthcare provider, no issues with reimbursement.
That_Crisis_Averted@reddit
When I saw that Medicaid wasn't getting paid due to the federal fund pause, I wondered if Tricare and Medicare would also be affected. But this may not be related to that at all. Tricare recently changed contracts and there's been a lot of issues especially with TriWest

That is my understanding from the sailors I deal with.

This is a nightmare . I don’t think the nation has been able to see what a disaster this could potentially create especially for our military. I’ve spent many days this month trying to get our insurance fixed with them after moving from East region to West region on the 1st. We changed our billing info when the letter was sent out in October 2024 per their instructions. My bank account shows my payment went through on January 8th so things looked like everything should be fine until January 11th I start getting phone calls from our doctor’s offices and pharmacy saying they can’t get authorization for the insurance claims to be approved/covered. Every time I call TriWest (after being on hold for 2-3+ hours each time) I either get hung up on or constantly transferred to someone giving me a different answer that doesn’t make sense. One day they claimed that myself and my husband have “multiple other insurances” (which is false). TriWest wanted me to call these other insurances (which I did knowing they would think I’m an idiot but they were actually nice & felt sorry for me/ helped as best they could) then next time TriWest had me call DEERS (they had no idea about anything cause they don’t handle insurance which I already knew). TriWest wanted to get me off the phone to do nonsense, busy work and never just fix the issue so we can all move on with our life. So now the claims are not getting paid to the providers so our doctors are billing us while I’m also paying for the insurance on top. My husband (who is a current Army service member for over 13 years and done 2 tours) and myself cannot get authorization for our medications to get filled at the pharmacy or have to pay $600+ out of pocket for just his migraine medication. It’s a shame the way our military is being treated after all that our service people have done for our country. At this point I want a refund and can only hope this gets fixed very soon or I can see people starting to riot (myself included). The news outlets need to be informed and everyone needs to know about this. I feel like we are being scammed and depending on how long this goes on, I will consider legal action.

Have you contacted your congressman? It might be worth a try.
BananaDifferent4698@reddit
I’ve started my letter to Senator Kennedy of Louisiana because I’ve heard people have started reaching out to him.

We have ChampVa ( my husband is 100% t&p), which in my understanding falls under tricare? My son's doctor keeps having issues filing his insurance. This has been occurring for about 2 months. I call, they claim everything fine on their end, go to the Dr's, there's a problem. I have no idea how to proceed at this point. The bills are piling up because this happened right in the middle of germ season. Strep, flu, sinus infection. It's been fun.

The tricare subreddit is a war zone …
PattisgirlJan@reddit
Having worked in the healthcare system, I can assure you that for the immediate future there’s no danger of patients with Tricare being dropped by providers. These contracts are worked out every year. Not being paid in less than a month could be related to contractual changes that were agreed upon at the end of 2024.
Now if it continues for months & months, that would be concerning. But I wouldn’t worry about it right now. There’s enough things going on in our country right now that are concerning - take this one off the list.

My pharmacy doesn’t accept TriCare. I have ChampVA who have always been excellent, so far.

Perhaps it will take a complete crash of the system for change!

Yes, I’m in Tricare West and my provider has experienced non-payment for over a year.
modernswitch@reddit
I did see something about this in my local moms Facebook group a few mentioned they were on Tricare could no longer go to the doctor/facilities they used to go to.
Rikula@reddit
Why?
Sudden-Apartment4874@reddit (OP)
They changed the backend for providers and placed the deadline during the holidays. Currently many providers are trying to fix the issue but have to refuse new TriCare patients because there’s no way to get paid until it’s fixed
