I mean, if my roommate couldn't spare 2 minutes to pour it into the tupperware and clean their own fucking pan I'd be grumpy to be their roommate. I'm not your line cook....

Need to learn to read. The title says the roommate cooked this lunch for OP. The roommate kindly made an edible lunch for OP before going to work, instead of just taking a second to put it away OP posts a picture to make fun of the roommate then flushes it down the toilet? In what world is that okay to do??
View on Reddit #46478657

stripedarrows@reddit

They cooked a lunch and left it in the pan? That seems rude af tbh, I'm sorry, I plate the dished I cook for people so they look presentable and want to eat them. I don't just leave them all of my cookware to clean up after me.....
View on Reddit #46478798

Welcome-ToTheJungle@reddit

Is this OP’s second account? Where did it say that the roommate told them to wash the pot for them? You know what’s rude… FLUSHING food a friend makes for you and posting a photo of it to ridicule said friend. I can’t believe you honestly think that a person leaving a meal for you in a pan that can be easily put into the fridge makes it okay to mock a friend and then throw away a full meal. Seriously? How old are you that you think this is justified behavior?
View on Reddit #46479709

Who said that was justifiable I clearly said what I didn't like about the situation? Why ignore that?
View on Reddit #46479856

Welcome-ToTheJungle@reddit

What did I ignore… If you’re not justifying OP’s actions then what was the point of your comment? Wanted to make some off-topic remarks about how you don’t like people leaving food in pots?

My point was that two people in an argument can be rude. Thank you for demonstrating it so throughly though, damn.

Welcome-ToTheJungle@reddit

The roommate who was nice enough to cook a meal for op before heading to work is shitty because they… left the food in a pot? Playing devil’s advocate on this is very weird. The roommate leaving soup in a pot is nowhere *near* as shitty as op mocking the roommate’s cooking and flushing it in the toilet. I genuinely don’t understand why you’re trying to claim the roommate is rude and shitty? What “chore” are you talking about? I didn’t know pouring food into a container was considered a “chore”? Like I said, y’all must be some spoiled brats, wow! If someone cooked me a meal and happened to leave it in the pot I wouldn’t even consider that to be rude, I would thank them profusely for even thinking of me during their cooking routine. Good lord
View on Reddit #46481572

stripedarrows@reddit

>What “chore” are you talking about? I didn’t know pouring food into a container was considered a “chore”? Wait, I'm sorry, does your pain clean itself if you pour the remains into a container cause that's a sick pan and I'd love to purchase it. Does the container you're pouring food you're not even sure what it is and didn't ask for into magically clean itself? Like.... how are you missing the basic chores here? As someone who cooks the food in the family, I understand I don't always see the dishes I uses..... but you gotta know you're using them while cooking.... right?
View on Reddit #46483545

Welcome-ToTheJungle@reddit

Seriously, what is wrong with you? Answer these: Where does it say that the roommate told op to wash the pan? Why would op have to wash the container? Who is forcing food on op, did the roommate tie op down to a chair and spoon feed them? Do you not understand the concept of a gift? How old are you? You know most adults can communicate with each other right? All OP has to do is: 1. Put food into container 2. Leave pan for roommate to wash 3. Tell roommate “hey, thank you so much for thinking of me when cooking but I’m not a huge fan of your food.” Is that too many “chores” for your mind to comprehend? I’m so glad I don’t have people like you in my life who think it’s rude to leave a gift for someone. Let me guess, if someone brings a wrapped present for you you’ll complain they left you the “chore” of picking up paper?
View on Reddit #46518919

PGMHG@reddit

>He didn’t want food cooked for him Okay so because you don’t want food or specifically this one, it’s appropriate to… - Post it online - Not store it for them - Wasting it by throwing it away And justifying Food waste and public shaming is… - They didn’t wash the dishes after using them - "I don’t want it" Like dude you don’t have to throw food away because you don’t like it. It’s also fairly common to leave food in the pot to reheat it on the spot… If there is some context of "I need that pan to cook" or whatever, the story changes but not the sentiment. It’s not inherently rude to leave a pan with food in it unless it’s been set as a boundary.

Why didn't they? I'm sorry, if I cook something for someone else I'm not leaving it in a pan for them like they're a fucking piece of shit that needs to pick up after me..... I'm gonna take literally 30 seconds and... PLATE IT for them....
View on Reddit #46478736

No-Struggle8074@reddit

this is not meant for him to consume the whole pot. you're meant to portion it up yourself. i'm going to chalk it up to a cultural difference because i know americans "plate" their dinner, but it's common for asian family dinners to be "self serve" and you take your own portion. (by the way, this is likely korean soybean stew and not diarrhea, if your american mind can comprehend that)
View on Reddit #46479270

stripedarrows@reddit

>this is not meant for him to consume the whole pot Nobody said it was, but as a Native American (not an American, thank you), is it not rude in your custom to cook and create an entire chore for someone else without their.... input.... at all?
View on Reddit #46479426

No-Struggle8074@reddit

So OP was right to waste food even though it takes what, less than 1 minute to get out some tupperware and dump it in? No, he probably didn't ask for this nor did he want to eat it. Fair enough. The roommate is at fault for assuming Americans can cognitively recognize vegetables. But I do not think the roommate is morally responsible here, just dumb. When you cook for someone, you are doing them a favour, and taking 1 minute out of their day to pour soup into tupperware and put it in the fridge is not a lot to expect. OP didn't want the favour, but would it really hurt to recognize that someone was trying to do a nice thing for him?
View on Reddit #46479776

stripedarrows@reddit

I'm sorry you're so angry about this, but it's a genuine question. Did roommate ASK first, or no? The fact that made you so upset says a lot....
View on Reddit #46480202

No-Struggle8074@reddit

I won’t even defend myself, I actually do feel kinda upset for some random internet stranger’s roommate. They probably were happy to make their cultural food they thought to share without realizing dumping leftover soup in Tupperware is a huge chore equal to slave labour.
View on Reddit #46483514

stripedarrows@reddit

It's really weird how you dodge that whole "Did roommate ASK first, or no?" question.
View on Reddit #46484545

No-Struggle8074@reddit

I see that now you’re the one getting upset. Please reread my comment before attempting to make this personal. I can’t believe I actually need to explain this to someone who seems to clearly communicate in English, but this seems to be the state of the education system. My “equating” was a hyperbole meant as a jab to your overreaction about putting away dishes. You seem to think putting away a pot is so hard of work, therefore I used that figure of speech.  As for the asking, I thought I addressed that already in my initial reply, but I admit I wasn’t clear. I personally don’t think it matters if the roommate asked or not; I think the intention of the act is what matters; and the reciprocation. The roommate leaving the pot out for OP was an act of kindness that OP admittedly didn’t ask for. Except, we are not talking about a huge moral issue here; we’re talking about a pot of soup that takes less than 1 minute to put away. In my opinion, if the roommate found out, they have the right to be upset, because they had pure intentions. They were not trying to make extra work for OP. Again, this might actually be a cultural difference- you just do things without a 1:1 return, but you expect that people won’t be throwing your gift away with no regard.  Since you wanted to bring up your ancestry in the other reply, I actually am quite surprised that a Native American of all peoples don’t understand this sense of community and communal living where actions are reciprocal. Other indigenous peoples I’ve met (of Canada, albeit) definitely don’t share your sentiment
View on Reddit #46485507

stripedarrows@reddit

>You seem to think putting away a pot is so hard of work, therefore I used that figure of speech. Nobody thinks it's difficult work but you seem to be ignoring that it's an actual thing that needs to happen after cooking, why?
View on Reddit #46486417

No-Struggle8074@reddit

Now I’m actually confused. Did OP say the roommate left the knives, cutting boards, scraps on the counter and thought they were doing him a service? Or was it… literally just a pot with soup in it they hoped OP could enjoy…
View on Reddit #46487282

What are you talking about “pick up after me?”. So if your roommate cooked you pasta before they went to work and left it in the pot for you to serve from, your instant reaction would be to post it on Reddit then flush the food they made?? Instead of simply putting it into a container to save for later?? Just because they didn’t “plate it” for you??? God I hope I never have spoiled brat friends like you and OP who think it’s okay to throw away homemade food just because it may inconvenience you too much to put it in the fridge if you didn’t want it right that second.
