If your passport expires within the time period the destination country deems invalid, will the country you are flying from stop you from boarding the plane , or will they let you board the plane at your own risk that you need to potentially buy a ticket back yourself ?

Eg flying from uk to turkey and turkey want 6 months on your passport but you only have 5 left. Will the uk let you fly out if you acknowledge that you need to check with the border police in the other country or will they stop you from boarding the plane ? Is this rule defined somewhere ?

The UK does not do exit checks, the airline does. And the airline will absolutely deny boarding if the travel documents don't meet the condition of entry at the destination country. This is because airlines get fined if they carry travellers who don't meet entry requirements.

The airline will not let you board. Because if they take you and you're denied entry, they get in trouble with the country, and are obligated to fly you back where you came from. > Will the uk let you fly out The UK doesn't have exit checks. And even if they did, exit checks from countries are only performing exit checks for that country, not entry checks for the new country. The UK government doesn't decide to let you fly.

Probably not. A lot of destinations require that you have ‘x’ months left on your passport.

My uncle had a disaster with this last year. His passport was just under 6 months until expiry and he couldn’t board the flight (uk to Spain). Ended up missing the first day of his holiday, £175 in same day passport process, £75 in train fares and £150 for an alternative flight - renew asap!

If it is picked up by the gate staff you should be denied boarding. If it is picked up by immigration at the destination you should be put on the next flight back. They shouldn’t let you go at your own risk, because the airline will have to pay, so it is at the airline’s risk.
