Trying to decide between a 2025 Subaru Crosstrek Premium and a 2025 Hyundai Tucson SEL—any advice? I love the Crosstrek so much, but the screen is a bit of a drawback for me. The Tucson seems like a solid option too. Anyone have experience with either? Pros and cons?

Subaru just beat Toyota as the most reliable. I dont think Hyundai was even in the top 5, so there's that.
Careful-Mammoth3346@reddit
They beat Toyota based on what? Any specific model? A specific year, or they were just declared most reliable? (By whom?) I heard Subaru had rocky times since they've been using CVT. Have they cleaned that up

If you’re planning to keep it a long time you should absolutely buy the Subaru. We have a 2020 Hyundai Tucson we bought new, and Hyundai has replaced the catalytic converter 4 times and it is burning a quart of oil every thousand miles. The dealership hasn’t been able to warranty the engine and we’re approaching 80k miles and the warranty will likely be up just before we need our 5th catalytic converter. Yes the warranty is great but why put yourself through the headache of actually having to use it. The resale value on the Subaru is also way better if you decide to get out of it in the next 2-3 years.

Automotive shop owner. Subaru. Hands down it’s the far better vehicle as far as maintenance/repair costs, reliability, and resale value.

I have heard that repair cost on Subaru are more expensive due to it not being a domestic brand?
jessbyrne727@reddit
That is false. Subaru parts are generally similar in price to its competitors. Also, OP is asking for opinions on Subaru (a Japanese company) vs. Hyundai (a S. Korean company). When you factor in reliability, even if Subaru parts were slightly more than most domestic brands in cost, the total spent on repairs over the lifetime of the vehicle would be less in comparison.

Buy the Subaru of those two without question. Hyundai is dogshit…

Nah, get past the stereotypes, the Tucson is legit and has insane warranties
Adorable-Swimmer-260@reddit (OP)
The warranties on the Hyundai are great! That’s why I’m having a hard time choosing 🥲

Mechanically they are sound, they'll easily pass 200k miles. Problem is in 5 years or so pieces in that interior will be falling apart
Ok_Town4290@reddit
Fair point. I would also pick the Subaru. But the Tucson is cheaper and has three rows, which makes it a valid contender.

Also i believe AWD is standard in the cross trek, AWD and hybrid are options in the Hyundai

Subi all the way! It is the car brand I have never owned, but always wanted to drive.

Crosstrek without a doubt

Anything but a Hyundai

Love my Hyundai Tucson ! Well built, great technology and long warranties. I went from Acura to Hyundai, very pleasantly surprised. Subaru, usual outdated Japanese that specializes in ugly looking cars
