Velotric Discover 2 vs Aventon Pace 500.3

Title speaks all - these two are my top contenders for my first ebike at the moment. Primary use would be commuting 10-20mi (paved) each day depending on the day, occasionally loading on to light rail trains.
Test drove the Pace at a nearby dealer and enjoyed how light and "bike-like" it felt, and how relatively easy it is to pedal even without assist. However I found the motor engagement to be a bit sudden and jolty on takeoff, even on the lowest assist setting. More than 4 PAS settings would be nice as well, but overall I enjoyed how nimble the bike handled. I weigh \~155lb and found the power to be more than adequate. I've read anecdotally that many of the settings (unlocking Class 3 mode etc) are only accessible via the app - is this really the case?
Unfortunately nowhere nearby has a Disco 2 available for test drives, but it seems to have the Pace beat in terms of features and pretty much every metric except for weight. If you've ridden/purchased the Disco 2, how smooth (or not) is the PAS engagement on the lower assist settings and on takeoff? Does it feel heavy or clunky when stopped and at lower speeds? How is pedaling with no assist?

What did you decide? I test rode both today and liked both. The D2 was a bike I could imagine riding for hours whereas the pace is one I could see putting into my car and taking places. Decisions, decisions. What did you decide?
