Stay Away from Ride1up!

They sent me a non working Ebike. They won't take it back. They send parts but no one I called wants to replace parts or even look at the bike. They said they called a bike mechanic but he never showed up. Ride1up is not returning my emails. Horrible customer service. Calling them is a joke. They will answer if you are buying a bike. It been over a month and still I am stuck with a Lemon.

If you search for Ride1Up you will find several stories like this along with people who respond they have never had any problems. Well, it's great if you have no problems, but what about those who do?
FPSXpert@reddit
Sounds about right! I still got a non-working Core5 from them, following an impact it's been a struggle. Obviously the impact isn't their fault but I had a similar hell of a time trying to get parts ordered to repair it and basically had to give up and try to go aftermarket before I later gave up on them entirely. I quit riding entirely for a handful of months before I finally saved and got a different brand.
OP's pretty spot on about iffy C/S and they also scrub some of their Facebook group pages such as the r1u riders forum just an FYI.
Edit also the battery range isn't quite as advertised. Obviously this can be common across brands with ranges tested with the lightest person with no accessories on board on flat ground on a windless day etc, but somehow my bike from them would crap out with voltage sag or die 10 miles in with 14A, while my heavier Lectric will keep on chugging with no issues.

I had an accident on my Core 5 and they replaced the motor, display, motor cable and controller for free. They didn't even question what happened.
Thank you Brad and Benit, both from Texas.

I have ride1up on my list of possible bikes. Ops post made me reconsider and it’s going to be off the list.

Go Aventon
Joseph____Stalin@reddit
Yep. Aventon is amazing and the only reason I don't have one is that I got a bonus while I was shopping and bought a Juiced Ripcurrent S
Merry_Dankmas@reddit
How do you like the Ripcurrent? It was one of my top picks and I almost pulled the trigger on it due to the ability to change between torque and cadence sensor. I ultimately went with a Wired Freedom but sometimes wonder what could have been with the Rip.
makingnoise@reddit
I have the Crosscurrent, which is basically the same as the Ripcurrent but without fattys. I don't know about "switching" between the torque and cadence sensors, my understanding is that it has both and they both operate in tandem, not one or other. What I can tell you is that the torque sensor is VERY well tuned on my Crosscurrent. I recently got to compare it to an Aventon Level.2 and while Aventon has a very polished product, I prefer the power and performance of my Crosscurrent - Aventon's torque sensor is not nearly as "analog" feeling. Aventon's feels like it has "steps" of power addition based on pedal torque, while Crosscurrent is a smooth addition/removal of power on pedal torque.
EDIT: Though in terms of quality, Aventon is "higher end" - Juiced focuses on power and performance but their frames are very basic (e.g., the Level.2 has rear brake lights integrated into the frame and fender, the fender is metal not cheap polystyrene plastic that breaks the first time the bike flops over, etc.). I still prefer my Crosscurrent to the Aventon Level.2, even if it's a lower tier of frame.

Juiced is out of business and the bikes are in clearance over at velowavebikes.com. I see people currently selling used Hyperscrambler 2's for over $2k and they now sell brand new for $1600. Honestly feel bad for them and others who bought from them.
As far as Ride1up I literally destroyed my bike. My fault. Ride1up sent me a new controller, display and motor at no charge, no questions asked. I'm looking at Wired now however because Ride1up canceled the Rift and have no plans on bringing out any new fat tire ebikes.
makingnoise@reddit
The whole industry is going belly up. Who will right themselves remains to be seen.
MartinJBoogie@reddit
They have no power
Ok-Impress-9410@reddit
Exactly. People just throw money away. Trek, Benno and Cannondale are just ripping people off.
Chili327@reddit
RadPower seems to be back on top of their game as well!
simononandon@reddit
All these people recommending other brands that are primarily direct to consumer brands. Seems like that's part of the OP's problem.
I bought a Trek because it was the lightest entry level e-bike I could find by a legacy manufacturer. Trek isn't my favorite bike brand by far, but I wanted a brand that I knew had LBS support and/or their own brick & mortar outlets.
The FX & DS models are under 40 lbs & usually on sale or available for under $2k.
Ok-Impress-9410@reddit
Just curious. Other than shop support why buy a Trek? I'm looking at a Wired Cruiser that has dual batteries, quad-piston hydro brakes and a top speed of 45 mph with full suspension for $2k. Is it just a rich person bike to have because I know the comfort, performance and range aren't comparable?
surflaxrat@reddit
Raev is awesome service. Founded by ex Honda engineer who is active on the FB group. Love my GTX
perfect_fifths@reddit
My budget is 1k and I don’t want fat tire bikes
Fluid-Wrongdoer6120@reddit
Have you looked at Juiced Bikes? I think both their bikes and customer service are better than Ride1up, and I have purchased models from both companies. Probably would have to wait for a sale to get under 1k though
perfect_fifths@reddit
I like the commuter style bike but it’s 2k. So unaffordable.
Fluid-Wrongdoer6120@reddit
I assume you mean the CrossCurrent X? That's the one I have...got it on sale for $1,200 but that was during the off season (December). No guarantees it'll ever get that cheap again but it does seem to go on sale every few months
Ok-Impress-9410@reddit
There is no more Juiced. Bikes are on clearance at velowavebikes.com if you want a great deal. The Hyperscrambler 2 is only $1600 now.
11SPEARHEAD11@reddit
Get wired !
perfect_fifths@reddit
I got an Aventon :)
Ok-Impress-9410@reddit
Should've got the Wired Cruiser. Aventon makes nothing that comes close and they charge more still..
Pell331@reddit
REI will work on their bikes.
ribi305@reddit
Also REI ebikes can be an amazing deal when on sale.
foxparties@reddit
I'm having a great experience with REI. I'm considering a new Canondale ebike, and they have a fair policy on making sure the bike is a good fit and two year adjustments if you're a coop member.
Ok-Impress-9410@reddit
I looked into REI but all they seem to have are overpriced and underpowered bikes like Salsa, Cannondale, Electra and Benno bikes. Why would someone pay upwards of $7k for an ebike that tops out at 28 mph and 600 watt hours? I at least want 1200 watt hours and at least approaching 35 mph with a max $3k spent.
perfect_fifths@reddit
Can you dispute the charge on your card? Tell the card company you got a faulty bike
Buzz_Killington_III@reddit
There are people who make purchases without using a credit card.
SadCyborgCosplay@reddit
yes, but who’s purchasing an electric bicycle directly from the manufacturer and receiving parts for it, with cash?
Buzz_Killington_III@reddit
Could also use debit, which doesn't have the same protections as Credit.
WaterASAP@reddit
you're a sucka if you don't buy things like this with a credit card
Ok-Impress-9410@reddit
Any brick and mortar bank has the same protections for debit cards as they do credit cards. Not sure why you think differently.
