My community is now cracking down on ebikes, scooters, and other powered vehicles.

Over the weekend an ebike struck and hurt pedestrians on the sidewalk. This has been the second time in three weeks. The police until now have been very chill. They didn't bother ebikes, bikes with gas motors, or electric scooters. They only asked, by posting signs and posting on social media, to not ride on sidewalks, stop at stop signs etc... Not sure where this is going as a special town council meeting is scheduled. Sad a few a-holes have ruined a good thing.

And as always the idiots ruin it for the rest of us. I’ve seen so many morons riding through stop signs on their e-bikes and scooters. Sometimes I feel like I’m the idiot for stopping

Check your local laws. My state allows cyclists to treat stop signs as yields.

As they all should. Something like 80% of all biking injuries happen while slowing to a stop or starting from a stop. You should treat a stop as a yield anytime its safe to do so. Starting from a stop is the main reason I got an ebike after my hip replacement. It was too painful otherwise. Same with hills.

I treat stop signs as yields because it is more convenient and efficient, but I’m interested in how it stops injuries now… can you share more?

Bikes are more difficult to balance at low speeds. You are more likely to tip over when going very slow such as when stopping for a stop sign or starting out from one. Starting from a stop requires more strain from your muscles which can cause a muscle strain or tear. It should be avoided whenever possible to do so safely.
Also many cyclists use shoes that clip in to the pedal and it's much more difficult to use those if doing full stops. Falling risk is greatly increased.

Literally nobody gives a shit if it's more work or your shoes make it harder. Frankly. I live in a city that's trying to become more of a cyclist paradise, and the amount of flat out dangerous and disrespectful riding you see is a much bigger problem than cyclists having to stop or yield.
