Build Help

I had my first PC built for me by a individual, and it's been like 4 or 5 years now I have a 2080ti Ryzen 9 3900 and I just want to know what all o should replace or upgrade, I am more than lost and with the new 50 series coming out I feel like now is the right time I am just clueless on how to build a pc or what parts to upgrade or if those parts need other parts to be compatible etc. I just need help and I was hoping somebody would take some time out of their day to help me out. I appreciate all the help!

What is your goal? Why replace anything?

I left out the most important part. i am sorry, it's purely a gaming computer and it's lasted me for years and I am trying to get out ahead of performance issues I am slightly noticing to replace it with things that will last me for a few more years. L

Ok cool. Next would be what is your budget and what PSU do you have?
I'd start with a 5700X3D, and then you could get whatever GPU your budget/PSU allows.

My current PSU is an RM850x 80+ Gold

So then pretty much anything you want, perhaps except a 4090 or 5090.

Okay, so I was looking at the 5070ti. Do you think k with the power supply and motherboard it will work, alright? I know i likely won't be able to get one on launch due to scalpers

I foresee no issues.

Okay good to know! So I need to focus on changing the cpu to a 5700x3D and then graphics card and it should be good to go. Good news
9okm@reddit
Yup, that’s it :).

Stupid question, the 5700x3d is a ryzen 7 and what i have currently is a ryzen 9, does that number mean anything? Or is it just the 3900 and 5700 I have to pay attention to?
9okm@reddit
Ryzen 7 and 9 are classes of CPU. Kinda like Honda civic vs accord. It doesn’t mean anything in and of itself though - generations matter more. So like, a newer Ryzen 7 will nearly always outperform an older Ryzen 9.
You specifically want a 5700X3D. A standard 5700 or 5700X won’t get you nearly the same uplift in gaming performance.
X3D CPUs have what’s called 3d vcache, which greatly improves gaming performance. AMD introduced this with the 5000 series.
The 5700X3D is the best gaming cpu you can currently get without also having to swap motherboard and cpu.

This was the exact information I needed. Thank you, lol. My caveman brain. Sees lower number and gets curious. I need PC Chads like yourself to educate me
9okm@reddit
Lol glad I can help!

Thank you so much. Truly, all the PC stuff is overwhelming to a newbie, and my current build has done me great for so many years and has been daunting trying to figure out what to replace and fix.

You’re welcome!

For a gaming PC you'd want to update your motherboard bios and put a 5700x3d in. You can pay 230 on amazon or 130 on aliexpress for one.
You can find out what motherboard you have if you don't know by typing msinfo into windows, going to system summary, and looking for 'baseboard'.
Your current CPU cooler is probably fine but you'll need to repaste it, get some thermal paste
If you have 16gb of memory it's time to move up. If you're not completely switched over to SSD space for games it's also time to step up there.
GPUwise it really depends on what you want to spend, generally a 4070 or 5070 or stronger would be the minimum to make any kind of sense at all from a 2080ti. 9070xt is looking good if you want to go AMD.

I have 32 gbs of Ram do you think k that's enough or should i get more? I have like 4tb of all ssd nvm.2 storage
Sleepykitti@reddit
32gb of RAM is totally fine and what to aim for at the moment for a normal gaming machine.

Oh, awesome, that's good to know, I'm so clueless at this stuff, so anything helps. Thank you so much!
