My gf and I are planning to see a show at the majestic theater in March. We've never been to Dallas and wondering if it's better to stay downtown and be walking distance to the theater and other places, and have the big parking fees (we're planning to drive). Or is there a good city outside of Dallas that has things to do and is an easy drive to downtown?
Will take any and all recommendations for places to stay, things to do, and places to eat. TIA!

The Canopy in Uptown is a good balance of value, location, safety, and amenities, and its rooftop bar is a great bonus when the weather is good. When I've looked lately, it seems like it's usually priced favorably to downtown options, though the Fairmont has had some good deals at times.
The Nasher Sculpture Center is the most distinctive only-in-Dallas museum in the area, and the only museum of its kind built to house sculpture. The outdoor garden is a great spot to chill on a spring afternoon.

I just posted a question about visiting at the end of February and was looking for downtown recommendations, so I'm happy to read these as well 👍🙂

I’d eat the price and enjoy a weekend downtown. That’s a short trip and you’ll have plenty of things to do within walking/ cheap uber. There are plenty of bars and restaurants of great quality within a cheap uber, or walk. Klyde Warren park is a fun day time experience, so many nearby shops and museums to enjoy at a leisurely pace without worrying about timing going back and forth. If you did leave the area, my only recommendation would be to uber to somewhere for dinner. Lots of new Michelin spots! And good spots in general. Oh- also there is a trolley you could take from a downtown hotel all the way to uptown for more choices.

I would stay in uptown and just uber or go further up at the Beeman hotel so you can walk around lower Greenville and have cheap Ubers to the majestic, to highland park village and to Knox for fun areas to be.
