Grunge style is back, but they have no f*cking idea lol

I saw a picture of a dude in his early twenties, dressed like a Kurt Cobain clone. I made a pleasant comment about it and they had no idea what I'm talking about. Not a clue. It's just fashion lite grunge... 🙄
ExperienceTop4498@reddit
When did it go out of style? Lol
Historical_Fault7428@reddit (OP)
2004? 🤷🏼♀️
WhiplashMotorbreath@reddit
O/P I'm going to blow your mind. wait for it, wait for it. The grunge look was the outdoorsmans look for a few decades before grunge even hit the local bar stages.
So o/p who really has no ducking idea. Many of us dressed that way in the late 70 early 80's.

I wore my first pair of Docs everyday for 5 years. And they were actual real leather. Now they look like they are made of plastic.
graceparagonique2024@reddit
The most uncomfortable shoes I've ever owned were DM's.
KCcoffeegeek@reddit
Yeah even my good old ones were terrible in terms of comfort but when I was in high school I didn’t notice.
graceparagonique2024@reddit
I got them for safety shoes at work 20 some-odd years ago when I was a factory slave. My feet never hurt so much in my life.
Universespitoon@reddit
Solivar used to be a manufacturer for DM before they sold out..
And you can buy direct from them now, Solivar became the go to boot for those who miss a good 8 hole combat sole.

Stolen valor!

Kurt took his valor with him.

OMG I'm going to use that from now on

Don't get me started on people wearing Iron Maiden t-shirts.
MCMaude@reddit
I've said this and gotten downvoted before, but I stand beside it. Wearing a band T for a band you don't know is just weird. I don't know how else to say it. It's weird.
Cool_Dark_Place@reddit
Agreed. I saw this starting to take off in the early 2000s when Hot Topic stores started really blowing up. Back then, the kids were all wearing Misfits shirts.
Dark-Empath-@reddit
Agreed, as someone who had not Iron Maiden and Nirvana t-shirts due to the bands themselves.
Someone told me that kids are wearing Nirvana t-shirts now thinking that is the name of the fashion label.
Fuck my life.
Guilty_Signal_6363@reddit
Dude you think I’m a Swifty just cause I like the chicks shirts? They fit my beer gut great.
Weak-Seaworthiness76@reddit
Someone commented on my Master of puppets t the other day. I was like dude it took me so long to learn all the tracks on the bass back in the day...looked at me like I was speaking gobbledegook
KCcoffeegeek@reddit
Master of Puppets were a cool band. They had this great song called “Metallica” or something like that.
observeandretort@reddit
And THEY got sued by Napster.
Historical_Fault7428@reddit (OP)
While listening to Foo Fighters.
Hctc666@reddit
My 19yr old and his friends dress like Jesse Pinkman
Aggressive-Ad3064@reddit
The outfit prolly cost him $400.
These kids can't even buy cheap thrift items anymore. Have you seen the prices at Goodwill??
Historical_Fault7428@reddit (OP)
Yeah, well goodwill has been going downhill for a while! There are decent options tho. Threadup online and local small thrift stores.
KCcoffeegeek@reddit
Of course, lumberjacks were looking at us when we dressed “grunge” and wondering when the last trees we felled were, exactly lol
KCcoffeegeek@reddit
I was too poor to buy concert merchandise when I was young, and I lived in Italy for my formative years and the merch was nonexistent or weird for the bands I liked. My prize possession, other than having kept physical tickets to shows, is my Sonic Youth shirt from their European Dirty tour. Unfortunately, it’s a size I’ll likely never fit into again.🙃
Sassberto@reddit
The styles today are not connected to any sort of music genre. Its purely for aesthetic purpose.
TheAnalogDad@reddit
Saw a website of a brand selling “90s” jeans. The models looked like they were doing some kinda cosplay.
RCA2CE@reddit
You sure it wasn’t a homeless person? Hard to tell the difference between those two imho
sophisticatedcorndog@reddit
Haven’t seen the adoption of wallet chains yet where I live, but I expect to.
Ambitious_Budget_671@reddit
Be still, my heart!!
aknightwhosaysnope@reddit
Haha, my 17 year old wears a wallet chain. It’s coming.
RoyalJoke@reddit
I saw a 20-yr old girl looking exactly like Siouxsie Sioux but she had no idea who that was. Strange indeed.
