DDW with twin head sails (big ones, not these small ones) can be decently fast and, more importantly, very safe and stable. The boat drives itself down.
We run DDW with twins up as much as possible but we pole them both out so good for 120 deg to 180 deg. Slower, don’t care much. It’s very lazy sailing and I love it
I am fully aware of that, but there's a reason we are running DDW - if we go on the south tack we end up in the 30kts+ acceleration zone off the coast of Columbia and associated nasty sea state. If we go on the north tack our vmg is actually worse. So ddw makes the most sense here.
Well sorry for not writing a damn dissertation on our current boat / sea conditions on a quickie reddit post. We tore our code zero earlier in the day, we're avoiding the wind acceleration zone and shitty seas off Colombia, and this was right before sunset where we downshift so that all the crew gets rest. Not to mention its currently 25kts and 2.5m seas.

I can't see a wing-on-wing post without hearing the song Wave on Wave in my head. They have nothing to do with each other, but I still hate it.

People do realize that DDW is typically slower than running at like 150', right? we doing it just to look cool, or?

Right? Coming at this as someone who learned by crewing on race boats, this feels... weird.
