That's crazy!!!!
North-Director8717@reddit
iv never seen it but it always frightened me as a child because i was told one of the kids died in the movie
VectorJones@reddit
Did the remake capture the creepiness of the original? Something about the original's score always left me profoundly disturbed as a child.
punkpoppyreject@reddit (OP)
Oh!!! I have no idea! But I have always loved the haunting musical score of the original! They label it as horror and as a child I can totally see it for the music alone! You are expecting something to jump out at any moment.....and it really doesn't.

The Lifetime remake is well worth checking out. The casting was surprisingly good for a Lifetime movie with Ellen Burstyn, Heather Graham, and Kiernan Shipka.
Mournhold_mushroom@reddit
That does sound surprisingly good, I loved Burstyn in "Requiem for a Dream" and I loved Shipka in "Mad Men".

Yeah they made miniseries from so many of her book series, but after I found out how much they strayed from the books, I wasn't interested.

Yeah see, this was what I was afraid of. Her series of books was so fantastical! I remember eating them up as a child because my mother (who had me young, don't judge) was a big fan of her. And I just read everything she had on our bookcase as a child. Not just V.C. but there was Jean Auel, Clan of the Cave Bear. And of course all of Steven King at the time.

That’s a crazy reading list for a kid! Sounds kind of like mine :}

It was awesome though! Plus she was in nursing school! So I got to read all her awesome nursing books which kinda kick started my own career later in life!!
Morriganx3@reddit
Oh, that’s very cool! I don’t get to read any medical texts when I was a kid, but I did start reading them when I worked for a surgeon in my 20s. I’ve been in non-clinical roles in medicine ever since
punkpoppyreject@reddit (OP)
That's bad ass! What type of surgeon if I may ask? I've been in healthcare roles my whole life. I know no different which probably isn't good. But it's all I know lol. I did however, finish writing a book this year. A romance....probably will never have it published but I finished it!! Just to say I did...is enough for me!

I worked for a colorectal surgery practice. It was a great job - after a while there, almost nothing grosses you out anymore. We’d go out to dinner after work and be talking shop, and people at nearby tables would turn and stare when they overheard us.
After that I worked in an emergency dept, then urgent care, psych, and now I’m in QI.
Did you end up becoming a nurse also? I feel like medicine is so interesting that it’s really hard to move on to something else.
But finishing a book is huge! I have never attempted anything like that, but I gather that the percentage of books that actually get finished is infinitesimal.

That is a fantastic spread!! It sounds amazing...could we have coffee sometime so that I could pick your brain?! I did go into nursing. I have accomplished a myriad of things as well; one being a master gardener in a few States lol. I branched out recently; I certified in Phlebotomy, and I am currently entering a pharmacy tech program. When I am focused I have every goal smashed! Let me know what you are curious about! It has been a while since my book, but I am sure that I could point you in at least some direction lol!

The Cutler one wasn’t too bad in terms of keeping to the books, but they were very heavily condensed since each book only got a 2 hour episode, which translates to about 90 minutes when accounting for commercials

EAT THE COOKIE MOTHER!!

The grandmother cut all her HAIR off! That SINNER!!!

It was a big deal when the Lifetime version came out. Lots of advertising for it.
VariousTiger6098@reddit
Yes! And Lifetime did a Lizzie Borden movie around that same time with Christina Ricci, honestly all of those movies are really really good.
AHollyS@reddit
Yes they did!
punkpoppyreject@reddit (OP)
I just dont remember that. I read the whole 5 book series. The 80s movie was the absolute best. I wish they made more then!
epidemicsaints@reddit
The Lifetime movies are much more faithful to the books but ultimately didn't quite do it for me. The terror of the original one is perfect for me and how the book feels. The new ones are still worth the watch, but they just are not as intense.
