I may have money and don't know what I'm doing. $4k build

So totally screwed up my 2024 tax allocation, and will be getting a fairly large refund. Because I am an adult, I will not be saving it and instead am planning a build. My last brand new PC was a prebuilt Alienware in like, 2015, so I'm pretty stoked.
Build list- https://pcpartpicker.com/list/fJ9wqH
- I chose the motherboard and PSU at random. Better options, or is that workable?
- I have the 5080 in there to represent my hopes and dreams, realistically it'll be a 4080/90.
- Probably LianLi fans. I'm an RGB whore. If there's a better option, give a shout.
My current PC, if I can cannibalize anything from there besides the Samsung SSDs- https://pcpartpicker.com/list/jbbNpK

I think 1200W is overkill for 5080, 1000W will be more than enough

Hijacking this thread here, but I'm building a 1000w build for a 5080 but on the off chance I change my kind and splurge for a 5090 do you think it's too close for comfort.
TitanX11@reddit
5090 is a different thing. I have a 1200W PSU ready from the summer and waiting for 5090. Got it on sale though.

Never cheap out on the PSU or risk getting too close to the limit. A 5090 setup will be ~850-950W. Worth going for a well regarded brand 1.2k+ platinum (will eventually pay itself off via lower electricity cost).

Might as well get 64gb ram for another 30 bucks.
Don’t know what you play and most games it wouldn’t make a difference, but for a few it might.

Honestly I'd case swap with upgraded ram and gpu. But if you really want to wait till the gddr7 mobo comes out so you can take advantage when you do happen to upgrade to a 50 or 60 series.

Aren't my mobo and psu not good enough for the CPU and GPU I'm looking at?
failure2report@reddit
No you have a 750 w psu and your dream build only requires 616 it says and if it's a gold tier you'll be able to handle higher wattages power spikes safely. Yes you're correct your current motherboard isn't compatible with the ryzen 9000 cpu and technically if you get the 50 series your mobo will be bottlenecks your gpu, but if yo7 go for the 40series card it'll be fine. I just said wait for the gddr7 mobo to be out and get that one because the 50 series gpu are running on great bandwidth (gddr7) and if you buy now you'll get an am5 gddr6 mobo.
You understand what I'm saying?

I would get this 9800x3d bundle (can't tell how long it's available) and a 5080/5090 (whatever you are able to get on release day.
ASassyTitan@reddit (OP)
That's a great deal, thank you for sending that over!
I think I'll be heading up to MicroCenter to try and get a 5080, just not sure how realistic that is since it's the Tustin location and I assume it'll be packed
ChanceMeet3283@reddit
ye, might be the case. the early bird will get it

since you state you like rgb ram you should get corsair rgb ram instead. corsair also now offers rgb dummy ram to fill the other 2 slots. I forget the same of it. Msi also offers some boards with rgb in the board itself. Then you can buy all sorts of rgb strips from Amazon or aliexpress. You may also want to look at razer chroma argb controllers.

Get a b850, x870 or x870e board they are better value
4k build u should have a 5090 minimum
Also I swapped to 2x32 gb ram bc it is a slightly performance increase compared to 2x16 even if u dont use the extra capacity.
Tbh u should prob buy the ram now bc 135 for 2x32 Hynix a die is a very good deal and idk how long it will last at that price

Appreciate it! I swapped out the motherboard, will switch the ram out for 2 32gbs
LordAnubis85@reddit
I'd personally go for an X870 board instead of a B650. You're already buying top end CPU/GPU, may as well get a board with a PCI-E 5.0 slot. Other than that, looks fine to me.

Cool! Changed that out
