Petite girls glasses
Posted by neatgeek83@reddit | plano | View on Reddit | 25 comments
My tween needs new glasses. Children’s frames are too small and women’s are too big. The places I’ve looked so far have very limited petite frames. That includes Costco, Visionworks, Warby Parker and brave optical.
Does anyone know of any other independent optical shops that have a decent selection of petite frames?
Thanks!

Could look at Eyebuydirect.com.
They do have kids' sizes and I've been happy with the glasses we've gotten from them.

Buying frames online has never worked out for us.

Right... because you know so much about how glasses are sized, you would think you’d have amazing luck with looking at glasses online.
neatgeek83@reddit (OP)
quite the opposite. just because i know how they're sized doesn't mean i know how they will fit. especially on the face of a picky tween.

I’ve been ordering my glasses online for over ten years. If you know how to read the sizing on glasses, you can quite successfully tell which glasses will fit your face best. They even have filter on the websites that help you find frames in a specific size range. Plus, almost every single online glasses retailer has a virtual try-on option, and in the past five years they’ve drastically improved how they work. Your excuses are not that great, considering how snarky you’ve been to everyone here. Maybe next time you want help from strangers online, you should try being grateful, instead of crapping all over everyone that tries to help.

Glasses in general are bigger right now (it's the styles) but glasses have sizes, they are printed usually on the inside of the main temple arms or whatever & will be three numbers. First is frame width, second bridge width & third is length of the temple arms. I have a narrow face & like smaller frames so I wear a (50-15-135) - you can go into a store & ask for what they have in a size 50 or below & they'll know what to bring you.
For what it's worth the ONLY place I have found glasses that fit me & that I like is Target. I've been everywhere & tried all kinds of indie (is not owned by luxottica) frames but few places carry the slimmer frames I prefer.

I’m well aware of how glasses are sized, thanks!

Jfc they were just trying to be helpful. Whats woth the snarky
kimmykat42@reddit
OP apparently is the stereotypical entitled Plano snob… they can’t be decent to anyone that tries to help them
AnxietyDepressedFun@reddit
Wasn't trying to offend... You asked about frames in between kid's & women's but they're just different sizes.
neatgeek83@reddit (OP)
Right but they’re also categorized as “petite” frames.

I wish your daughter the best of luck.

If none of those have worked for you, I'd start hitting your local optometrist office to see what they have in their optical. They'll typically carry a range of brands, from the big names (Oakley, RayBan, Nike), and other decent lines that aren't as well known that may fit better

Yeah that’s what I’m asking for. Independent optical shops. There’s dozens in Plano. I’m hoping someone knows of one or a few that has a wide selection.
OhHelvetica73@reddit
If you know of dozens of what you’re looking for, then what exactly is your question?
neatgeek83@reddit (OP)
jesus christ...is it national gang up on OP day?
there are dozens on independent optometrist/optical shops in plano. i don't have the time to call or visit each one and ask about their frame selection.
i am hoping someone here can respond with "oh my tween daughter found some frames she loved at dr. so-and-so's office at parker and custer. they had a big selection of petite frames."
kimmykat42@reddit
No, people just don’t respond well to OP’s that are rude af in response to every person trying to help them…

America's best has a pretty good selection.

I went to Plano Eye Care Center when I got mine. They were still larger but they did have ones that have the sleeker style.
I don't know if she still works there but Julie was a saint and very helpful when it came to getting glasses and picking out the right ones especially since without my glasses everything is really blurry. But definitely check them out. They're on 15th St

I a grown woman and I have the same issue! children frames are too small and adult frames are too big.
The only place I have found that has any hope of finding frames that are lower than size 50 is Plano Eye planoeye.com (on Coit just south of Spring Creek). The staff (the names I know are Erica and Reggie) is top notch and very good at helping to select frames to fit my face.

Have you tried Warby Parker? They mostly do online BUT, they do have a physical store on Preston and Park, near the La La Land. There’s a few other stores around the metroplex, but they might be worth looking into.

I'm not an eye doc or anything, but from what I understand as a lifelong glasses/contacts wearer, glasses come with sizes marked on the inside of the temple piece. They have lens width, bridge width, and temple distance defined and clearly labeled in mm. A good optometrist shop should be able to look through their stock and find the ones that sized appropriately for your daughter. And even tell you which models they might have on hand in X size, but that it can be ordered in Y size to scale it down slightly. So, just because something on the rack isn't fitting/looking right, maybe it's just a matter of asking them the right question? Like, "my daughter likes this style, but it says it's a 54mm lens. Does it also come in a 50mm?" Just saying it may be hard to find the right one in stock if she's not right down the middle average face size for which a lot of places would normally stock. But that doesn't mean they aren't made and available.

Have you tried lensecrafters? They shape things to people's faces
neatgeek83@reddit (OP)
Aren’t they the same thing as visionworks now?

Similar but different as far as I'm aware. They have really good customer service from my personal experience at multiple locations and they measure my head every time for frame fittings and help tweak them to my head specifically when they are done (I do metal frames). I think the one nearish Allen Premium outlets was where I got my last pairs?
