How's your 2025 going so far?

Feeling mighty sorry for myself as I've managed to break a rib by slipping getting out of the bath. Didn't have that on my 2025 bingo card.
Anyone else having a rough start to the year or anyone had anything good happen? Hopefully you all have had a better start than me!
P.S Any advice on the rib would be helpful 😭 (obvs been checked by a doctor but if anyone has any pearls of wisdom in dealing with this then that would be nice).

Meh!
Had the flu between Christmas and new year then WFH the first week back due to snow so was getting cabin fever.
Work have sold my part of the business so waiting for TUPE consultation to start.
But the positive of being ill over the festive period is I lost weight and I am not skint!
Coat-Trick@reddit
Everyone seems to have had this cold/flu like illness, and for once I haven't 😅 hopefully your feeling better now! Snow was wild where I am but 5 minutes along the road there was nothing haha!
Professional_Pace928@reddit
Had carpel tunnel surgery 4 days ago, no pain but missing the gym. Roll on February.
Glad-Pomegranate6283@reddit
Not a break but I severely sprained my ribs lately. Pain relief can help, I had lots of hot baths, a hot water for the pain and I would use a pillow to hold against my chest when I coughed
Admast79@reddit
Pretty much, ok? At work I do less than last year - decided that it's time to stop trying the best when you are constantly being ignored or giving extra to do. So no, doing a slightly above minimum and that's it.
Beside that? Nothing has changed, I still hate my town, still renting the house as I can't really afford to buy one. Would love to move a bit further to the north but kind of my work and my Ms work keeps us where we are at this moment.
RaceFan1027@reddit
got an offer from oxford to study ppe so doing pretty good!
Distinct-Goal-7382@reddit
Why is everyone so obsessed with PPE just asking out of curiosity?
RaceFan1027@reddit
I don’t really know, I think it’s because it’s had many alumni go on to have great success (well powerful jobs, maybe not done successfully) and that attracts more people to the course.
Shoddy-Computer2377@reddit
Oxford PPE was once described to me as "the poshest locksmithing course in the world".
Distinct-Goal-7382@reddit
What kind of jobs can you do with PPE?
RaceFan1027@reddit
well in an ideal world i’d like to work in the civil service or be a politician
RaceFan1027@reddit
interesting, well that sounds good :)
UniqueEnigma121@reddit
Which college?
RaceFan1027@reddit
balliol
UniqueEnigma121@reddit
A friend read PPE at UCL. I’m sure you will love it. You’ve obviously worked hard to achieve the A-levels👍
RaceFan1027@reddit
thank you
Remarkable-Wash-7798@reddit
I expect good things from you in whichever future party you will belong to.
Good luck racefan1027
RaceFan1027@reddit
thank you, hopefully one day you’ll see me as a cabinet minister (i’d love to be chancellor!)
RagingFuckNuggets@reddit
Studying personal protective equipment?
RaceFan1027@reddit
😂

An app I made suddenly earned like £800 in a week, so that was pretty good. But I also shit myself after eating a 2 day old miso soup. Mixed year so far
Unlikely-Security123@reddit
Can you somehow combine the two?

I've already booked two vacations to kick things off. More plans are on the way!
Shoddy-Computer2377@reddit
Meh, is all I can say.
macfearsum@reddit
Noro, at new year, then a horrible Bartholin cyst, now a heavy cold. The ongoing hip osteoarthritis. Lack of motivation in general, however tomorrow is a new day!
MonsieurJag@reddit
Lack of rib damage ✅️ Replenished single malt whiskies ✅️ Pleasant Christmas ✅️
But
Noro/rhino/corona viruses using me as a help-to-buy scheme ❌️ Channel 4 OD player upgrade (with extra adverts) ❌️
Icy_Obligation4293@reddit
Debt increasing, alcohol intake barely lowering, little prospects or ambition. Wake up every morning feeling happy as larry. There's possibly something wrong with that but until I actually get a negative emotion it's hard to say.
Unlikely-Security123@reddit
Same boat. Not much point worrying or getting miserable. What's that gonna achieve?
SirTimmons@reddit
Doing dry January and am sleeping better, waking earlier, more energy, more motivation, I’m on top of all the chores, just started working from home, rebuilt my bird table that been broken for at least six months, cooking decent meals every night.
I-Am-The-Warlus@reddit
Finally got my SIA licence
Starting going to the gym (hitting legs tomorrow)
BriscaTwoEleven@reddit
Broke my rib December 23rd on a night out when a mate picked me up and dropped me...I feel your pain
BriscaTwoEleven@reddit
No pearls of wisdom as you can't do much for it. Try tiger balm that slightly eases it and co codamol
BarnacleExpressor@reddit
Broke my coccyx, torn retina, and a cough that won't leave. But hey, the only way is up now right?
8racoonsInABigCoat@reddit
For me, it was the anti inflammatories that helped with the broken rib, because they help relax the muscular tension around the rib, so letting you sleep better and heal more effectively. Lying down wasn’t great, but reclining in a comfortable chair was better.
Crab-Turbulent@reddit
Pretty shit here but no surprises honestly. It tends to follow a pattern. My mum is at her usual shit being a shit essentially but what’s new. I’m slowly realising and accepting that’s who she is. Work is shit and I got passed on a promotion. Half of it was my fault for not doing well at a test, half of it is also a way longer story of venting about how things are set up at work that I won’t get into. I’m very disappointed in myself but it has motivated me to apply for different roles within the company at least. Still no friends. Wishing I could make more money. Still terrified of not knowing what my landlord has planned come spring when it’s renewal time. Still wishing I made better decisions along the way, but also wishing I was dealt better hands in life too.

Wisdom tooth pain so 😭😭 other then that fine.
Ok_Young1709@reddit
Going shit. Hoping it gets better soon.
alacklustrehindu@reddit
Awful. Job is shit. Motivation is low.

I fractured my foot the weekend before starting a new job

I'm 35 and about to lose half my teeth.
Not great.
Friendly_Success4325@reddit
Very bad. Only 15 one night stands this year.
Particular-Row5678@reddit
It's the same continual bullshit that characterised 2024, 2023, 2022 and so on and so forth.
Superstorm22@reddit
Started my Msc Radiography (anxious as hell)
Without heating due to our old boiler crapping out (frustrating as hell)
Recovering from a microdiscrectomy (frustrating as hell)
So a healthy mix. But not giving up yet.
JoinMyPestoCult@reddit
Well I’ve finally finished all the Christmas chocolate last week and now I’m hankering for something and the drawer is empty. So, not great tbh.
Madwife2009@reddit
Broken ribs are not fun. Hopefully you were told to remember to take those deep breaths (you know, the ones that make your broken rib really hurt) and not to do just shallow breathing that avoids pain. I wasn't told this when I had two broken ribs and ended up with congestion on my lungs which took a long time to clear and involved doing some exercises whilst walking that made me look more odd than I usually do.
Sadly, for me, so far 2025 is just a continuation of the problems from 2024 😭
Maybe ask again in a few months.
Equal-Competition930@reddit
Terrible lost two colleagues from work already and all I read in news is bad news even deal in Israel is unravelling faster than I eat quince jelly
NobDeRiro@reddit
I always know the year is never going to be a good one because within the first week of it I always become a year older.
But no so far it’s been alright I guess really. Nothing great has happened nor nothing terrible!
anonoaw@reddit
Found out this week that I’m at risk of redundancy while I’m 30 weeks pregnant. Which I could do without tbh.
RagingFuckNuggets@reddit
You have special protection from redundancy when pregnant. This protection applies from the time you tell your employer you are pregnant, and for 18 months after your expected week of childbirth.
anonoaw@reddit
Yeah I’m fully clued up on the law and know I’m very well protected thankfully, but it’s still stressful. I technically can be made redundant even tho I’m pregnant because the job is being fully eliminated. So I’ve just got to see what ‘suitable alternative’ I’ll get offered.
Heps_417@reddit
Make sure to check out pregnant then screwed in case you get any unfair dismissals or need general advice!
H1ghlyVolatile@reddit
Unfortunately, I’m still alive.
CatsCoffeeCurls@reddit
Dealing with a sick cat who's going in for extensive testing on Monday: CT, endoscopy, tissue biopsies, etc. A huge bill I didn't need right now, but won't think twice about spending it on a cat. At least I'm starting a new, higher paid job the following week.
Optimal_Collection77@reddit
Being made redundant, now I've got the flu... Not great to be honest
dinkidoo7693@reddit
Been poorly since new years every time I think I’m ok something else starts.
Jobcentre are trying to get me on a totally pointless and irrelevant training course for 4 weeks too.
And today I’ve been told the guy I’ve been flirting with and crushing on for the past few months actually has a wife, so not it’s definitely not the best start
DryTower9438@reddit
Oh mate, I feel for you. I broke 2 after being on an all day sesh, then someone had the bright idea of going ice skating. Chin up and pop those painkillers.
Soft_Cardigan@reddit
Absolutely shamefully. I joined Reddit.
AnotherYadaYada@reddit
No advice in the rub but pretty shite so far.
