Why does this not always show when going through weight stations?

Dead battery.
BonusHour8693@reddit
A lot of places are going to the way in motion system
MoekenTroll@reddit
When was the last time you changed the batteries?
SuguoDerp@reddit
When the prepass batteries go bad, they flash both green and red.
JakeJascob@reddit
They have batteries? That explains alot.
Tiparuski@reddit (OP)
It’s definitely not the batteries
Mechanik_J@reddit
To see if you actually read the signs. If you pass the weight station like that, they have it recorded and it is easier to give e you a ticket.
MastrChang@reddit
Some weigh stations don't use that, or batteries are dead.
I was told that the PrePass only works correctly with lithium-ion batteries.
potatocross@reddit
I’m local and stations around me turn the damn prepass on and off constantly. Never get a response when they are open but the second they close I get a bypass.
But also depends who is working that day. You start to learn scale masters cars when you pass the same scale 4 times a day.
MADLUX2015@reddit
A battery, especially in a simple device like the prepass is a battery. It has no way of know what the battery chemistry is. And any kind of battery works in them.
Tiparuski@reddit (OP)
Hmm interesting, I’m sure it’s not the batteries but I’ll double check
fasterXR@reddit
I use standard Duracell batteries they work just fine I do find that with the big box you need to change them roughly every 6 months.
40_Year_Old_Vidiot@reddit
I change them evertime the clocks change so eay to remember.
palebd@reddit
Lithium batteries. They're not rechargeable like lithium ion, but wait they're lithium. Disposable still. Energizer lithium is what I kept in mine before the company switched to best pass.
MADLUX2015@reddit
If it doesn't show nothing the weight station has their pre-pass system off, the station only responds to another system only (like drive wyze,) or the pass just didn't get the signal for some reason.
rollon34@reddit
They turn it off to catch people running it.
Banning does this
StealthyNoctowl@reddit
California on I-10? I always go by what the sign says. If it says all trucks go in I'll go in. So far it's just cross the scale and I'm on my way. I see people blow it alot with no repercussions though so Idk anymore lol
rollon34@reddit
They have prepass.
When they have chase cars on sight they will turn it off. But yeah alot of people run that place.
I think it's mostly because the line. Take too long
Dangerous-Chemist389@reddit
I usually always get the green in the left lane.
I haven't stopped at a scale in years if they want me come get me, and i have been chased once in over 10yrs.
To your question i think they turn that stuff off to try and get everyone to go in.
Tiparuski@reddit (OP)
Lucky you, first time I skipped I got chased lol
Baddy001@reddit
Yeah he's full of shit. He drives for prime or Schneider and goes into every scale doing 15 even though the fucking sign says maintain 35
Practical-Wave-6988@reddit
lol. Yeah you learn which ones you can run typically, and which ones you can't.
We've got a couple on runs I do where 90% of the time you can run them (they pre-pass a lot, but get on runs where they'll run everyone over the scale for 2-3 weeks and then we'll go a month with them Being closed). Sometimes though they'll bring in 3-4 chase cars and spend the whole day catching guys who've been running the scales.
After I saw them do that a couple times my ass pulls in every time. I don't need that headache.
Baddy001@reddit
Yeah I get that. There are a lot of places like in TN and NY I'd like to see him run. He won't. Everyone is a cowboy on the Internet lol
Dangerous-Chemist389@reddit
What like the Corbin super coop? Ive blown that one a million times.
We run Michigan trains from the soo all the way to jayville, wtf is the point in stopping. When your hooked up and have like 80k on the deck. At that point your fucked either way just blow it.
Practical-Wave-6988@reddit
Oh absolutely. I live in TN and the only scale here you can really run is Knoxville on 40.
Bulls Gap on 81, Brownsville on 40, Pulaski on 65 or Portland on 65 (whenever they get it rebuilt) are absolute no goes...they'll run your ass down and give you a very bad day.
Hell even the brake check on Monteagle is heavily worked by THP.
Dangerous-Chemist389@reddit
I drive for a carrier with less than 10 trucks. I have never worked for any mega. So if you think im full of shit you can go fuck yourself
Baddy001@reddit
You're very sensitive. You must have been hugged a lot as a child.
dz1n3@reddit
Try that at the umatilla scale. Tell me how that works out for ya.
jmzstl@reddit
Some weigh stations turn it off. Yours might be partially blocked by that fixture outside your windshield.
Tiparuski@reddit (OP)
Thanks, I’ll try seeing if that’s the problem
jmzstl@reddit
When I had a Volvo I just had the little black prepass and I just set it in the tray on top of the dash.
THExPILLOx@reddit
Isn't the little one just for tolls and the big one is for tolls and weigh stations?
Independent-Fun8926@reddit
All of my companies placed them at the bottom of windshield, so nothing could block it. Might help
tidyshark12@reddit
Some stations don't have the system turned on. Sometimes the radar thing doesn't hit it at the right angle. If you're following another truck too closely, it might block it from sensing your prepass, too.
If they're open, just treat it like they pulled you in.
DrillTheThirdHole@reddit
i paid money for it, if the batteries are in and it doesnt go off then im not going through. i refuse to default to "slow to a crawl and ruin your night vision"
Waisted-Desert@reddit
The weigh station can turn the system off.
cwhite225@reddit
They will sometimes turn them off so you can get a free inspection.
Linfords_lunchbox@reddit
Some times they don't show anything. Idk whether the weigh station has it off when they're open wanting to chase people who blow it or what.
Tiparuski@reddit (OP)
That’s why I think too but then i see trucks blowing by which makes me think either they skipping or they got the green
Linfords_lunchbox@reddit
I've had red lights when the sign says closed too. I'm not going in, I have it on dashcam that the sign said closed.
dz1n3@reddit
In az, even if you get a red, but the sign says bypass, bypass. I went in, and I asked the scale master.
brakos@reddit
Yeah if the sign says closed I don't go in, but if the road sign says bypass and the prepass says come in (or vice versa) I'll pull in just in case.
Tiparuski@reddit (OP)
I’ve never had that but I wouldn’t pull in either
BizSecurity@reddit
The instructions told me it should be placed an inch away from any edges and at the bottom of the windscreen.
Tiparuski@reddit (OP)
Never seen anyone place it on the bottom but I’ll look into it thanks
tvieno@reddit
My company has it on the bottom.
JOliverScott@reddit
Not all states use PrePass. Not all weigh stations are equipped with PrePass. Sometimes especially this time of year they turn it off specifically to see most trucks roll through as they're looking for current year IFTA stickers via cameras and AI software. There's a whole host of other things they may be looking at also so even if you get a red indicator for no apparent reason it's not always weight related.
RoadAegis@reddit
Yeah Most in Texas don't have the PrePass active or installed. A lot of Po-Dunk weigh scales never bothered and mostly stopped at DriveWyze (If That).
I know a BUNCH of them Scales in West Texas that just have Lights only and are active Like... Once a Month or so.
vfittipaldi@reddit
Normal. Weight stations turnbon or off the pre pass function
winter4884@reddit
Definitely too close to the top of the windshield, I would have it at least 2 in down
If that doesn't work you could probably relocate it to the bottom center but be careful, some places will give you a ticket for obscuring the part of the windshield that's cleaned by the wiper blade.
As far as the batteries go in 28 years of driving I have had the batteries die in one pre pass. It was one of the little blue boxes and it was 11 years old when the batteries finally gave up.
synsolo86@reddit
Same issue. Noticed a lot of the older "less advanced" weigh station don't cause it to turn on. Or maybe they left something inside the scale house off.
Tiparuski@reddit (OP)
Same thinking
No-Fish-2446@reddit
Happened to me. Replaced the batteries
SchadDad@reddit
Should be on the bottom-middle just above where the wipers would block it.
Tiparuski@reddit (OP)
I’ll try to do more research on it thanks
UGAMUG@reddit
I have an old school unit and I'm pretty sure you can't even hit the test button while you're going through a scale I think they have something that's blocking that area. But I could be wrong
Tiparuski@reddit (OP)
Yea possibly
