Moving to Canada Questions

Hello! My name is Gage.
I am M19 looking to move to Canada, specifically Edmonton, Alberta. I am an American citizen looking to move out of this country soon. I fear for my safety as a Transgender Bisexual man with Donald Trump coming into office soon and all.
What steps do I need to take? What visa is best? Is the job/work visa easy to get? Or the student visa?
What is the estimated time it takes to get a visa to move to Canada from the United States?
Do I need the visa before looking and applying for housing and/or jobs?
TIA! <3

Research those questions online. If you cannot even do that there is no way you can emigrate to a foreign country.

What do you think he’s doing? He’s on an expat forum asking relevant questions. Why are you being a dick. He’s still in the how do I find out stage
sturgis252@reddit
There are ways to research things.

I’m confused. You want to leave Donald Trumps America and move to….Alberta. Have you done any research yet?
sturgis252@reddit
I mean Edmonton is still fine

I hear the city is NDP but c’mon….”I’m running because Trump to…..Danielle Smith and Alberta”
sturgis252@reddit
They also didn't do any research regarding visas lol

Plus they were so fearful they waited until the last business day prior to inauguration to even reach out to

Is he gonna round you up?

Would that look like arresting them for going in the “wrong” toilet? Because there are laws like that some states. They are designed to target transgender individuals.

Canada has laws like that too. With good reason

As a US citizen, I believe you'd just need to apply for a work permit but you'd have to have an offer of employment. You could apply for a study permit in something that permits you to apply for a work permit afterwards, which is what I did. It's getting more difficult to move to Canada now, since the housing crisis is really bad, and the government has been rolling back on immigration. If you're worried about the Republicans, it would be a lot easier moving to a more enlightened part of the US.

Not sure why you'd think Alberta is a safe haven. Honestly, just move to the West Coast. Expensive, but you don't need a visa and your basic rights are protected in those states. You're 19 - a college town is your best bet for finding your people.

Trump is not doing anything to you, stop exaggerating. Coming to Canada isn’t going to change anything for you. This lefty Willy Wonka nonsense is coming to an end in Canada as well. We’ve had enough here too. POILIEVRE 2025

I highly recommend you find your support group where you are, or consider a state where you are not feeling what you’re feeling where you are atm.
Concentrate on getting the best education you can and see where that lands you.
May I ask what type of discrimination you’ve experienced to date?

Tl:dr, at your age, and probable experience level, your only viable option is an international student, which is becoming increasingly difficult in Canada, and very expensive.

Might want to read rule 4.
