Most of us remember her as Mrs. Wilson in Dennis the Menace from 1993.

I know that’s Walter Matthau, but for a minute I thought it was Saddam Hussein.

SAME.

My dad looked the same at that age and also in the 90s so I know the struggle 🤣
parttimepedant@reddit
The 90s was probably the worst time to be looking like Saddam Hussein
twoworldsin1@reddit
He traveled internationally to the Middle East doing sales, too... 😬
parttimepedant@reddit
Oh fuck off!
twoworldsin1@reddit
Not that part of the Middle East, but definitely Turkey

Clicked here to joke “I didn’t realize she was married to Saddam Hussein”.
Chance-Collar-2816@reddit
No, that’s Saddam Plowright

Rest in peace. I wonder if my Silent generation friend ever saw her on stage? I was disappointed that Netflix did not have the Dennis the Menace film.
VectorJones@reddit
Damn, and I was just watching her in that movie Avalon last night. Great film, btw. She played a Russian-Jewish immigrant in that movie, and also a Eastern European immigrant in I Love You To Death. I thought for a number of years she actually was from that part of the world. It was rather surprising when I heard her speaking in her native English accent.
RIP.

Mrs. Wilson reciting a poem still makes me feel comfortable and sleepy

Then there are those of us who know her from Bringin Down the House 'mmmmaaamaaaa....' lmao

She was married to Saddam Hussein?!
Rhianna83@reddit
She was always the neighbor I wish I had as a kid. From the yard to her generosity. Every time she was on that screen, she made me feel safe in some weird way. When she finally got upset with Dennis, and you could see how much it hurt and embarrassed Dennis, I felt that hurt/embarrassment when I watched the movie. Great movie. Fantastic cast.
We were so lucky to have had all these greats have parts in movies of our childhood. Christopher Lloyd was fantastic in this as well.

You are sooo wrong for that. 🤣🤣🤣

And there goes the third one. So early in the year.
Evening_Ad_1099@reddit
Younger Walter Mathau always looked like older Walter Mathau with make up to deage him.
Nayzo@reddit
She's great in I Love You To Death.
DustedGorilla82@reddit
I thought Walter Matthau was Saddam Hussein for a second.
LadyStardust79@reddit
They both had such distinctive speaking voices, I can almost hear them talking when I look at this picture! Rip
RaspberryVespa@reddit
I know she was in other fat more prominent films, but she is in one of my most favorite films, I Love You To Death, and gave a wonderfully comedic performance opposite Tracey Ullman, Kevin Kline and River Phoenix. RIP Mama Nadja 💔

I just heard you say that in my head. Cute voice
alexdwayne@reddit
As a 90s kid, she was always Mrs. Wilson to me. Not until this morning did I know she was Laurence Olivier's spouse and much more widely known for that! Rest easy, Dame Plowright.
twoworldsin1@reddit
I was stupid as a kid so when I watched that movie I thought that they got Barbara Bush to cameo as Mrs. Wilson 🤦♂️🤣
EternalTreasure1@reddit
Such a great actor.
Global-Jury8810@reddit
Aww. So close to 100, but that’s a good long life.
