9800x3d overheating

Just installed my 9800x3d with a cooler master atmos 360 aio. My cpu idles kind of high at 43 I ran a stress test on it with CPUZ and it only hit 78 after a couple of minutes. I figured 78 wasn’t too bad under full load so I launched POE 2 and it started spiking to 87 degrees when first entering map. The temperature goes down a bit but runs less frames and more unstable than my 7700k I just replaced. I tried repasting , double checked that I didn’t leave a sticker and still can’t figure it out. Please help?

Mine idles aroud 50 and in R23 90… with arctic freezer 3 360

This seems to be the case with my 9800x3d, I am having the exact same issue.
Batch: CF 2450PGE
Are you also on that batch?

I’m not sure how to check the batch but I took the glass panel off of my case above my radiator and changed my fan settings and now everything seems good.

The batch number is on the cpu IHS unfortunately.
Go run Cinebench R24, good cpus shouldn't hit thermal throttling limits (90+) atleast thats one way to check.
For whats it worth I reach 96 on a peerless assassin mini, I should be at 85 max.
dabocx@reddit
The max temp for that could 95c. I would look at pbo tuning or slightly lowering the power limit by a few points
battler624@reddit
I know, but I shouldn't be reaching that temperature at all.
Tried 3 different pastes (Kryonaut, TF7, MX4), 2 different coolers (assassin mini), 1 thermal pad (heilos).

Mine runs gaming at like 42, that’s odd

Are your fans set up properly? That makes a huge difference.

This was the problem, thank you
Islaytomuch1@reddit
Poe 1 and 2 spike you CPU, my CPU idol at 47 got to 67ish on Fortnite max everything, but Poe it will totally go to 78-84.
It's just the game.

It was definitely the fan settings, they were set to silent mode by default which explains the temperature spikes in game.

Those are still completely normal temps. I had my 9800x3d aircooled where it easily hit 96 degrees and throttled, but just a little bit (1380 pts, cinebench 24 multicore).
I switched to an arctic freezer III 360, my temps are better now, but still kind of high. In cinebench i hit 1402 pts but I stay below but close to 80 degrees.

It is top-mounted?
wolfe_man@reddit
It's not overheating
ChillCaptain@reddit
What all core clocks is it boosting to?
itchygentleman@reddit
What are your ambient room temps?
Big_Exercise421@reddit
Upgrade motherboard bios to latest version, precision boost overdrive set to 75-80c thermal limit, optimize curve to -20 all cores. You should be good with no loss on performance.
Stargate_1@reddit
Did you install all the relevant chipset drivers from your motherboard manufacturers website after swapping to AMD?
Ok_Interaction1609@reddit (OP)
Pump is plugged into Aio spot and fans into cpu 1. I don’t know how to set up the fans any different I looked in bios but I’m not sure where I would change fan settings

What's your radiator orientation
Administrative-Ad970@reddit
Those temps seem perfectly fine. Not even close to "overheating"
Weekly-Stand-6802@reddit
Are you running a benchmark and are you surprised that the temperature rises?😂😂😂😂 It's completely normal, don't worry, my 5700x3d with custom watercooling doesn't reach 50 degrees in games but with an OCT hour it goes up. at 74 🤷♂️
fingerbanglover@reddit
Normal for CPU temp to spike when loading games, especially when compiling shaders.
DaemonNyctophobia@reddit
usually thats a pump issue ... warranty the AIO those temps arent normal. either you left the sticker on, the contact with the cpu is not gucci orrrrrr pump ded. uninstall and reinstall aio or warranty that beach.
fpetre@reddit
PoE2 load screen is the toughest stress test out there.
CPOx@reddit
All appropriate AIO cables plugged in?
tomgun41@reddit
87 degrees is warm but it won't thermal throttle until it hits at least 95 if not 100.
