Skyrim holds your hand through every single interaction. Quest starts and it’s just “Here is a map marker that shows exactly where to go so just teleport directly there or at least close enough, grab the item that you absolutely cannot miss because it’s so obvious, maybe spam the right trigger a few times along the way, then teleport directly back so I can give you a new map marker to teleport to.” I’d love to see Daggerfall remade in all its procedurally generated goodness with some modern graphics and QoL implementation. Damn near every new “RPG” is a weak action adventure with a leveling system. Give me some old school deep, complex mechanics brought into the modern era.
Oblivion has map markers for quests... What are you on about. Have you ever played Oblivion, or did you just watch a Skyrim sucks video? It does, but not for it having quest markers. You have one complaint, and you're still wrong.
My bad, I didn’t make it clear but I was responding to the comparison to Morrowind. Oblivion also has obnoxious map markers, it just doesn’t hold your hand nearly as much as Skyrim.
I'll agree with you on that. Morrowind and Oblivion are still near perfect games. Skyrim is just pretty good. 10/9.5/8 for me. The .5 deduction for Oblivion for me is purely because mercantile is OSRS autism levels of leveling up. But you can still turn your horse into a jet ski.
Hey I'll have you know snobby assholes come in many varieties. I think New Vegas is the only good 3D Fallout, but I also think Oblivion is the only good TES game.
It does when I keep getting weaker everytime I level up, it should be the opposite, as for the fast travel it is optional but still a poor design choice
This isn’t an old school rpg situation like “oh no I don’t understand how character building works so now I can beat the late game.”
Oblivion’s leveling system is genuinely poorly designed on a foundational level. It’s such that the game outpaces you no matter how you build your character.
It’s not even necessarily that it’s difficult. Enemies are just so spongy and deal so much damage that it ceases to be fun.
The leveling system has made it hard to replay. I want to maximize the stats for each level and always end up counting skills and grinding instead of just playing the damn game. That's the one thing Bethesda should address before anything else in a remake/remaster.
Bland setting and main quest.
Random bandits robbing you for 5 gold while wearing impossibly rare demon armor that is worth 1 million gold.
It could've been so much better.
Look in open world games you need bandit gangs equipped with the finest armaments and immersion breaking infestations of extremely dangerous monsters along the roadways or there'd just be nothing to do while walking between points of interest. It clearly isn't perfect, and it absolutely does take me out of the world, but that doesn't change the fact it's simply a necessary conceit of the genre. It's one of many reasons why open world games aren't the magic bullet for the RPG genre people seem to think they are.
ItsSevii@reddit
Probably the most rediculous leveling system ever invented but otherwise a good game
mesugakiworshiper@reddit
only nostalgiafags still like this game
PresentContest1634@reddit
Oblivion was great but has obvious flaws. You know what will NOT address the flaws? Porting it to the skyrim engine.
centurio_v2@reddit
they're porting it to ue5 unless you're talking about the mod
TheHeadlessScholar@reddit
Mod will be made with love, i have higher hopes for it.
JojiImpersonator@reddit
Love and more competence than big studios for some reason
nwbell@reddit
Probably be because they're not beholden to studios whims and crunch time. They can work at their own pace
BadB0ii@reddit
wait is there an official port being made????
Ilikemobkeys52@reddit
Rumored
BadB0ii@reddit
Colour me a gossip
namesOnkeL@reddit
even worse
wappledilly@reddit
Yayyy! Replace bloom with smearing!
Dark_Pestilence@reddit
For real. I cant play any ue5 games, not that there are any worth playing anyways lol
bjergdk@reddit
Can I have a little more lumen smear with my TAA smear?
centurio_v2@reddit
oh no it's much worse
TheHeadlessScholar@reddit
I think they mostly gave up on improving oblivion outside the dungeon design. Which to be fair already was too much for some modders to ask for.
Fidelias_Palm@reddit
They have a different leveling system, which was imo the biggest problem.
ceristo@reddit
Skyblivion is the Skyrim engine port. It’s just a bunch of random modders making it so it will be finished sometime around 2037.
The actual remake supposed to come out this year will port it to ue5, I for one am kinda stoked about it.
Fidelias_Palm@reddit
The Skyblivion devs say this year, and their last roadmap video seems to support that.
BadB0ii@reddit
what are some of the flaws you have with the game? It's been years since I've played it
daddystopmomshome@reddit
It was great for its time but certainly hasn't aged well.
Acceptable-Fill-3361@reddit
Oblivion is genuinely shit only midwits like it
_echthros_@reddit
As soon as I read the word “midwit” in this context, my mind brought back memories of FUS RO DAH and ARROW TO THE KNEE
spiritofporn@reddit
Unbased and dumbasspilled
havyng@reddit
The AI and some stupid writings are the worst flaws for me.
Treshimek@reddit
The only people hating on Oblivion are the ones who deepthroat Morrowind and New Vegas.
havyng@reddit
Oblivion is awesome for me. But New Vegas is way superior
TheHeadlessScholar@reddit
I deepthroat morrowind, new vegas, and oblivion. They're all great games.

Treshimek@reddit
Based in a weird way.
leedler@reddit
I wonder if Morrowind enthusiasts get surprised when their TV turns on every time press the button instead of maybe sometimes when it feels like it
Treshimek@reddit
Hit Rate is most definitely a combat mechanic featured in Morrowind.
leedler@reddit
It’s certainly one of the choices that was made in development
sink_pisser_@reddit
>the only people that hate this bad game are the ones who like these good games
No shit dumbass, it's called having taste
spiritofporn@reddit
Not really. Oblivion is much closer to Morrowind gameplay than Skyrim is. Skyrim is essentially playing TES on easy.
Hellogiraffe@reddit
Skyrim holds your hand through every single interaction. Why would anyone deepthroat those good games? Lol
Lou_Keeks@reddit
I don't hate Oblivion but Morrowind and NV are much, much better
spiritofporn@reddit
Oblivion was awesome. Except the faces, but they grow on you.
Zeus78905@reddit
The leveling system ruins the entire game and being able to teleport everywhere from the start also ruins the game
spiritofporn@reddit
You act like the leveling system makes it unplayable. And nobody forces you to use fast travel.
SwindleUK@reddit
When the easiest option is to never level past level 4, the game is broken
Zeus78905@reddit
It does when I keep getting weaker everytime I level up, it should be the opposite, as for the fast travel it is optional but still a poor design choice
littlediddlemanz@reddit
Don’t level up like a regard then lmao

Its literally better than Skyrim on a fundamental level, you give it better voice actors and graphics its a better game

I hope they keep the "wait a minute, let me do that one again" voice line

It was the game where the cracks started to show, the levitation act because Bethesda didn’t wanna code it comes to mind.
BigCaregiver2381@reddit
Oblivion is the best game in the Elder Scrolls franchise.
Do not respond to this statement.
SlySychoGamer@reddit
It was good for the time.
Just like morrowind, just like skyrim.
Today, they all kinda suck, except skyrim with mods, and even then, its not great.
